Well, I have been gone for a long time and I am back again but have to start all over... and I was up to 500 finally. Now I have to start all over again. For those of you who don't know me, I am one of those stupid Americans who do awful things like use New Order's name in the same sentence as OMD, The Cure, Depeche Mode, and the worst blasphemy of all... Ultravox. So, here's to a new relationship with you all. I love New Order, not as much as some of you, but longer than most of you. I think they are incredible in some areas, and absolutely annoying as hell in other areas:

Good things:

1. Great songs
2. Awesome bass and drums
3. Good screw you attitude
4. Love those simple keyboard lines

Things that make me want to barf:

1. Terrible use of stage teleprompters to help Barney remember lyrics to songs he has sung for years
2. Their terrible use of the box set and greatest hits - not the Cure's Join the Dots box and their 2 CD greatest hits with a whole CD of acoustic not released stuff to show how it should be done
3. Their very basic 511 DVD - nothing too special, once again reference The Cure's Trilogy or Depeche Mode's One Night In Paris or U2's Elevation as how it should be done

Thats enough ribbing for now. I do love them, honestly. Just sometimes it is a love hate thing.

it's pathetic when people can only see the good in New Order (or any other obsession). they are an amazing band who have some glaring failures and short-comings. i love them on one hand and feel completely disappointed by them on a regular basis. The New Order Box Set may be the worse box set ever released. The telepromters are so obnoxious and embarrasing for Bernard and their apparent lack of consideration for their "fans" and conceived focus on the average "punter" drive me crazy. Even with all the bad there's no other band that stirs the emotion inside me like New Order. Their songs are my security blanket, my energy and the soundtrack to my life since i was 15. Viva New Order.

Offensive?? It sounds kinda cute. Welcome back Wolfie. Luckily for us New Order are far from perfect (one Bono is enough for this world we are living in) but I think you left out their most glaring shhortcoming: They are sooooooooooooooooooooooo blooming lazy! (yep, I've read the guidelines on the use of profanity)

Wow I am amazed you remember that I did not like The Perfect Kiss as much as everyone else on the site. It is a good song, but would never be anywhere near my top ten. Sorry everyone, I like their stuff that isn't so dancey. I fell in love with them during the 81 EP and PC&L days. I loved their moody music like YSF, LMO, Eligia, Age Of Consent, and the like. So to me, they were very good moody music best enjoyed driving in your car, late at night, no one around...

Yes, I was Wolfmann before - could not remember my own nick from before. Glad you all remember me, as I surely do remember you. Just like the Order, I might get away from them for a period of time and enjoy some other stuff... but I always find my way home to them... just like this site. That is as sentimental as I get online...

There is NOTHING lame about DM or the Cure. At least the Cure knows how to do a box set, or a live DVD, or album remasters... Yes, they have been influenced by New Order, but they have also treaded their own path too. As far as Depeche Mode, they have done some amazing work over the years. Their concerts are twice as long as New Orders (as are the Cure's usually) and they don't need to read their own lyrics off a stupid teleprompter. I do agree somewhat about PSB - I like some of their stuff, but would never put them on the same plain as the other 3 bands. And in many ways, none of these bands are on the same plain as JD.

Believe me Dogbreath or whetever your name is, New Order know how to do a box set. They chose not to follow your MTV Cure/U2/toss of the day format, choosing to do it their own way, and a way that you, me and everyone else bought. Who's right ?

As for the teleprompter....I don't suppose it has ever occurred to you that it might actually be necessary now in order to be able to do live stuff, that Barney's memory has been shattered by years of E ?

Finally, if you want to sit through a five-hour concert of pre-recorded stuff that sounds the same as the record, then that's up to you, go watch The Cure or Hurry Fashion. To me it is boring after an hour down the front, the bruises are starting to get bruised, we know what is coming up next. New Order gigs were the right length at an hour plus optional encores. Even though it doesn't say that in the MTV book of Genres.

Absolutely, Tim. The teleprompter is there 'cos Barney clearly can't remember the words - it's not an affectation, or a stage prop: I agree it looks pretty wank, but it's not like you notice at a gig.

And that wonderous Cure CD of acoustic versions of their greatest hits really is the lamest thing I've EVER heard - they clearly just sat down in a studio one afternoon and knocked them all out mechanically one-by-one = a transparent effort to make sure all those ageing goths HAD to go out and buy a bunch of tunes they already own several times already. I don't think New Order (despite their flaws) have ever been so pitifully calculating....

Plus most NEW ORDER fans are so pissed or drugged up that you don't noticed these mute points at a concert.When you sit in front of the telly and watch them on DVD maybe.But hell i haven't got over the scenery moving in CELL BLOCK H circa 1985 so i can't say the teleprompter has ever botherd me.In fact i thought it was a CCTV monitor watching me at OLD TRAFFORD.Kinda paranoid myself these days.I don't know why...do you?

As far as Barney needing a teleprompter because of drugs... Why didn't Ozzy need one - that man has ingested more drugs than all the toilets of the world combined... also, RS did plenty of them in his hayday too...

Oh well, it is comforting to know the same old arguements can cause a new flow of blood into some people's heads. I like thinking that someone is lashing out in some basement of his mom's house because I like the Cure and defend them. :D

That's quite a frightening prospect, someone lashing out in some basement of his mom's house because you like the Cure and defend them. Maybe you should try defending them on a Cure site instead of here, unless you are deliberately being provocative ? You never know what lurks in basements !
