new order & royalties

anyone any idea how much money new order have made out of royalties etc? estimates please!

Don't be silly! They don't get money from royalty. Maybe if they would've played at Princess Di's funeral.

They all live in nice big houses, own expensive playthings like yachts or tanks, and that's after having to fund Ryder's nose and Wilson's folly (and pay the taxman quite a lot). They've done ok.

Barney - £47.50 (he spent it all on tuna) Hooky - £1.9 million (he sold his 1993 mullet to science) Steve + Gillian - £28 million (gillian actually wrote all the songs and also owns Ringo Starr) Phil Cunningstunt - £0.42p (has to pay 90% of his earnings to his hair technician)

Couldn't tell you, but we know whose profits went into funding the Mondays' Barbados "recording session".....

Do the band still own the rights to their back catalogue?

Do they get the royalties when their tunes are played on Sky for instance?

I don't know. The publishing contracts are now with Warner Chappell rather than Fractured Music and Be Music. Maybe this is as a consequence/contractual obligation of being with Warners though.

They didnt really have any money early on as they kept putting it back into Factory (lets pay them to release our records?-how factory of them!) & The Hacienda,which of course was the best club in england at the time. I think they struck some deal along the way with London about their back catalouge,hence the Best Of? 12 months after Republic. Probably owed more than they have ever been paid,but thats their buisness.

I remember Ian Broudie talking about the life of Reilly (sp?) being used on Match of the Day. He said they only have to pay royalties if the use anything with a vocal in. If they only use an intro etc the atrist gets nothing.

The deal with london was initally 3 albums. republic, best of, and the other one

Estimates from average record sales/concert performances put total earnings from 1981-1996 at about £10 million, not including expenditure. I would not be surprised if (for the 1998 shows) they grossed half a million quid for teh four shows, as well as commanding a pretty darn good whack per show for the 2001-2 shows.

In terms of cash then, if Factory coughed up the right royalties, they were minted, though I believe when they signed to London part of the deal was that they got the £1million+ Factory owed them in Royalties. NewOrder are VERY well off. And good for them too.

The band own the old material (and have licenced it to London after forming CentreDate Ltd). After all, "The labels owns nothing, the artists own everything". Remember?
