Check the new Lionel Richie single, "Just For You" - Rhythm section eerily similar to Crystal if I'm not mistaken, even down to the break near the end! Aaargh!

That's great. Now Tabsy has a good opportunity to post a Lionel Richie picture in the on-topic forum.

Someone in the band seems to be a Lionel Richie fan. When New Order were guests on "Rage" TV show in Australia they picked their favorite videos and one of them was "Hello".

LINK (Check the playlist)

Tongue-in-cheek, surely? :skeptic:

Tongue almost tearing through cheek flesh I think you'll find.

Remember the Rage telecast from the time quite clearly.

You may recall the 'Hello' video as being unintentionally hilarious, melodramatic, 80's fare... Terrible hair, knitted sweaters, a blind sculpter, Lionel's massive mustached noggin, some terribly wooden acting, etc. Oh the pathos.

The caption cuts off the final word, "DIVISION".

now that's the (unholy) spirit :)

Apropos, given what the Pope likely thinks about all of Barney's religious lyrics, or about Ian Curtis' early attempt to meet his Maker.

OneBrain, I'm afraid of your new avatar... for one second, I asked myself whether the picture on the Round&Round single was really Beethoven or LIONEL RICHIE.

True, that. I saw the little subtitle and immediately thought "Joy...DIVISION." Seems I can't see either word anymore without making that connection.

Yuk.... less said the better - can't bear the creepy 'Hello' thing -always reminds me of pervy male teachers at my all-girls' schools :nonono:

It was also incumbent on me to do a little DIGITAL manipulation and show His Holiness flipping the bird. Just seemed like the right thing to do, at least that's what Satan told me.

Richie talked about the video on VH1's "I love the eighties," saying if I remember right that when he saw the clay head he was absolutely horrified, and just wanted to get the nightmare over with. Richie certainly belongs in the Pantheon w/Hall and Oates w/worst video artists ever. They definitely did not choose very talented directors, then again the early eighties featured in equal doses a greater supply of the worst and the very best videos ever done.

Quoting the man himself: "I'd say 'Hello' was the most seductive song I've ever written. To this day people still talk about the video, which they refer to as 'The Blind Girl Video'. I have to give credit to (director) Bob Giraldi for that. It was him who decided to put a blind girl in it. I'm happy with the video, but I didn't like the bust she made of my face. It looked nothing like me; the chin was too wide. Bob said to me, 'Lionel, she's blind...'".

I have to confess that changing my avatar wasn't enough. I had to download the VIDEO as well and I think I have watched it at least 10 times in the last 24 hours. Each time I see Lionel Richie singing the song's chorus on the telephone I burst into laughs.
