How do your children react to New Order?

I'd really like to know, from the members who have children, how do they react to New Order's music. It's interesting to know what the kids of the 21st Century do when hearing our music from the 80s... not only children, but also kids in their early teenage (say, under 16... younger brothers, nephews etc.) Do they dance around the room when they hear World In Motion or do they ask back the Darkness CD?

My son, Alix is 2 1/2 and is keeping the faith.

He blows into a Hohner Soprano Melodica and loves New Order, especially BLT.

He even shout wo like Barney.

The haircut is next

well, considering i am 14...

i mainly hang out with the indie/emo/synth crowd at school (which isnt that large), and they all like the same music i like (new order, depeche mode, the cure, the pixies, joy division, matthew good, alexisonfire, moneen, dashboard confessional, einsturzende neubauten, death from above, dimmu borgir, cannibal corpse [not good, i know, but a guilty pleasure])

btw: last thursday was 80s day at school and a dj crew came and there was an 80s trivia... one of the questions was, which band from the 80s has the biggest selling 12" single of all time, Blue Monday?

and i screamed the answer before they said it... and i won a promo only DJ copy of Blue Monday! and some radio promo cds from all american rejects, ataris, yellowcard, and some other stuff, for answering the other 80s trivia... i was the only person to get any questions right lol...

I don't know about kids, but my little brother picked up on both JD and NO very fast. Of course, that's different because little brothers tend to emulate their older siblings, while children tend to avoid being like their parents!

My 7 year old son loves New Order! And loves Bernard, just like Mom! :) He even knows most of the words. You should hear him sing Temptation.

#1 on the sides, #2 on top...

My younger sister hates NO. After being forced to watch 316 when my mother bought a DVD player in the summer, she is now frightened of Barney and his phallic obsession.

My daughter's 13 and she can't stand New Order. Why should she? Actually I think I'd be pretty worried if she did as: 1)They're a bunch of 40ish blokes (now) and have very little relevance to today's music (although they were a great influence on it) 2) Whatever I play she doesn't like, which is perfectly natural in a teenager - in fact I played something she likes the other day and she said she didn't like it anymore! Kids eh!

My 4-year-old daughter enjoys singing “Crystal” and “Close Range” when we are driving. It is kind of touching to her sing their songs. She also is fond of Lena, Throwing Muses, and Depeche Mode.

My six-year-old was singing to This Time Of Night (the live version from PFD) driving home after it had gotten dark. So there's hope yet!

at least he's listening to something good. it's overplayed, but it could be worse.

my nephew (who's 12) considers all the DM/NO/Cure stuff "old people's music" and proceeds to taught AC/DC as "the best band ever." this is highly problematic.

Better AC/DC than any Nu Metal or rap. I can't stand the stuff, and apparently, that's what most people my age listen to.

The seven year old (I hate the word "step") son...loves New Order....we crank it while playing hocker (played with a soft mini soccer ball and hockey sticks) in the living room. oh and he knows the difference between joy division and new order...he has been indoctrinated

My nine year old son loves both New Order and Joy Division (and Electronic); he knows about Ian dying (but not how) and the rest carrying on. He doesn't understand the lyrics yet, which I think is a good thing, he just loves the tunes. Favourites are LWTUA, Transmission, Run and TPK. He also does a brilliant 'barn' dance ! My six year old girl is less impressed, but likes all the hits like Regret and BM. She loves Mike's Real Substance dvd

At the same time, they both listen to various popular artists; Kylie and the Sugababes e.g. are high on the list. And Deek subjects them to some rap and hiphop shite now and then so there's plenty variety.

My daughter (now 13) as those of you who attended the Worlds End before the finsbury park gig will know is quite heavily into NO, her fave track being Round & Round and fave album being GR.

She still has moments of madness tho' and her and her mother are currently having a dido lovefest

Bought my nephew PC&L for his 18th Birthday. He was born the year it was released and lived in our house until he was 2, so hopefully it triggers early memories for him. The Hoxton fin and Everton season ticket where not my doing.

My Kids Love New Order!,

my daughter is 9 she likes Temptation best and my son who is 8 Shifts between Shellshock, Blue Monday and Procession. they always ask me if we can go see new order and we will if they ever come to new york again.

* Indeed, aren't AC/DC older? BTW Sean, what a great avatar! How many afternoons spent playing Galaga! Check this online Java version I was no arcade addict, but Galaga was unique, a great improvement from Space Invaders, and it was still rather easy, so with 50 cents I played hours... :)

thanks for the comment on the avatar. i tend to frequent bars in san diego that still have a functioning galaga machine in them. still a quarter-per-game, though it gets harder when the controls are gummed up with years of spilt drinks and the screen is hazy from years of tar from cigarette smoke... though, still a blast!!

also, i tried to explain to my nephew that ac/dc are, in fact older than the formentioned bands. he replied something to the extent of ,"it doesn't matter. they are still better than that music that all you old people listen to." then i reminded him that i was only 24.

That always happens to me too, I guess it's because the "i" looks so similar to the "l", especially on sans-serif fonts, so it's just like reading Dldo... You lucky bastard, last time I saw a real Galaga machine... must have been 1987 or something... :D [wow, post #200 :)]

yeah, they are still floating around in the states...

if you are a big 80 arcade fan, and you ever make it to states, there is a place in a town called fullerton (south of los angeles, north of san diego) called "the reagan years." walking into that place, i felt like i was sucked into a time warp. they have everything from galaga to paperboy, ms pacman to space invaders (the one with the moon as a backround, and asteroids too. too much fun...

Hope to check that place one day (though Reagan Years, what a dull name...). Isn't Galaga the game Depeche Mode are playing in the video of the fabulous Get The Balance Right?

Man, I was complete cr@p at Paperboy. Much Better at Afterburner (I think that was the name) and was a solid Galaga player, but not up to your rep. I miss Crossbow, remember the game that had the crossbow that you actually aimed at the screen. Very cool stuff.

but yeah, afterburner was the SHIT!!! i loved that game, but as a kid it was always 2 quarters, so i didn't get to play it too often.

i lent one of my students (15-years-old) substance a few months ago. i have yet to get it back. he claims to like it--he's pretty honest about music i share with him, so i imagine he's telling the truth.

i still want my CD back, though.
