Are all NO songs about drugs?

I'm gonna be lynched for this I guess..

A friend of mine has a theory that every NO song is about drugs in some way or another. Every song I've asked him about, he's come up with a reason its about drugs. Regret is apparently about cannibis usage, Vanishing Point about benzedrine, Here to Stay about drugs rehab, etc. Short of going through the entire back catalogue with him, I don't know what to do to try and prove him wrong.

Has anyone got any theories on this before I start at him again?

1963 + Love Vigilantes + State of the Nation + All Day Long = no drug references

basically you're friend is an idiot. now if he said MOST new order songs are about drugs, then he'd be a carpenter with a deft touch.

man buys drugs:

"Johnny came home with a gift for me He said "I bought it for you because I love you And I bought it for you because it's your birthday too"

man force feeds drugs to woman:

"He told me to close my eyes My gift would be a great surprise I saw tears were in his eyes He never meant to hurt me Oh God Johnny don't point that gun at me"

love is the name of this substance: "There was too many ways that you could kill someone Like in a love affair when the love has gone"

this "johnny" is now selling his lady for crack: "Johnny you keep on using me"

pretty self explanatory: "I just want to feel free I will always feel free I will always feel free I will always feel free I will always feel free"

Love Vigilantes is about an acid trip in which the subject is confused and thinks he is a soldier.

State of the Nation is about drug use, and the fact that society has this drug culture.

All Day Long is about this child who was force fed drugs. The smile on his face was the smiley on the tab of E.

Elegia is a revolving E chord pattern structure (if you use a capo !).

Video 586 seems to be lacking in drug references

Your mate is wrong. All New Order songs are about shagging, actually.

I'd well believe that, too...

Listening to them again after being told his "reasons" they're all about drugs, I did notice what he meant... weird

Then again, this could be a case of playing Beatles records backwards - its all in the interpretation...

Nah - they're all about drugs except TPK, which is about wanking. And WIFM is about Losing in the semi's:evil4:

Yes but the remaining songs are just ones for which the relevant drugs haven't yet been invented (anyone got any vigilantes?)

This was a famous line edited in The Shamen's Ebeneezer Goode. The original line by Mr C was "Anyone got any VigilantE's?" but the record company forced them to change it to anyone got any vEra's"

It's obvious innit! Love VigilantEs....it's all about E's.

Case Closed:D

They may not all be about drugs but they sound a lot better if you're on them. Especially the remixes:D

And I thought they were about football and religion, silly me. :)

your friend should get together with my friend that insists all depeche mode songs are about christianity, drugs, and pedophelia...

Or the obvious, "I was touched... by the hand of god." You mean he's been jerked off by a famous footballer?

Here's a couple of fairly obvious references:

Please don't take my drugs away I'm going to give them up some day

I'm going to live till I die I live to get high.

Bit like the the religeon string this one:I honestly believe most of the influences that you've quoting have affected BS's songwriting over the years but trying to say that ALL the songs were about or were influenced by drugs is a very long stretch indeed.

just because Barney wrote all the songs masturbating or doing drugs, doesn't mean all the songs are about masturbating or drugs. just alot of them.
