Should NewOrder do a Substance2?

This kind of stems from the "covers" thread and "producers" thread. Basically, theres a load of fantastic NewOrder songs that sound dated due to technology, or production techniques. should NewOrder enter the studio and rework old classics with the benifit of 0-20 years listening experience, release a 2 cd "Substance2".

i think they should, songs from republic and the (shudder) shell-shock era are poorly produced i think. some of my favourite songs are off technique- but sound well old now (mr disco) and could do with a re working.

of course , there is the opinion that its the big 80s feel that makes manys a new order tune.

this question has been jumpin in my head for a while now(espically with "community" coming out). id be interested to hear what you think.

what about new order re working "electronic" the debut album. i have to say, id love to hear that!

No. If we hadnt had The Best Of? & International then yes,but we dont need another compilation of that sort. Give us the tracks we want on CD,but not just cash in for the sake of it.

Put it this way, re-recording would take time, time that would be better used in recording new stuff. The old stuff has been repackaged enough times, we know what they sound like now. Give us new material or no material.

They don't sound dated at all. They sound of their times, and ahead of their times. Music made by todays bands does sound actually retro-dated. New Order, Oasis and Travis. Who came before? As we all know, Oasis and Travis were bands of the 60s, right? :D Anyway I like their new versions of True Faith and Isolation, and I guess there'll be another compilation AFTER (not before, it wouldn't make sense) the next album, so it'd be cool to have a couple of new versions of the classics.

Why not do a proper one and put all the stuff that came after TF on it? They could do it the same way they did the first one, with A-sides on one disc and B-sides on the other.

It was all a bit ballsed up actually Shelley as Procession was the A-side of Procession/EGG. I think they took this from the Benelux release - which is odd! Also, Murder was an A-side not B-side?!

There is an "unplugged" version of BM, on a bootleg from an '83 show at the Chicago Metro, which happens to be hard to find.

BTW: if you ever need to reference a scan from the Discography you can almost always replace filename.jpg with filenamesmall.gif to get the thumbnail...

No bootleg. Released in Argentina by DG (they also released the regular "first" Substance).
