Thanks to my mates at Re:Order for the pictures:thumb:

A cracking night was had by all, more beer swallied than at a German beer fest, the pictures come from London's Slug and Lettuce:D

Somehow Jarvo and Stash managed to avoid their mugs being caught on camera!

A story of the mad weekend will be done soon. Cheers to everyone for making it a cracking weekend. Espescially Jarvo for putting up with me and Hibster for the weekend:karate:

God, yes, I'm a stroppy fcuker when I've had a drink. I hardly remember posting that. Funny but I ended up in the very same venue from which all those photos were taken just last night, which ain't very clever on a school night. :nonono:

NEWORDER / KRAFTWERK Weekend 19 & 20th March 2004-03-24

It was a cold, wet and miserable day when I set off down to London on Friday. I was on the way down for what I knew already would be a mental weekend, I was staying at Jarvo’s along with the Hibster, the thought of which, already had me in cold shivers on the train. Luckily enough I had Twisted Tenderness to listen to on the way down. I arrived in London just after 4, and decided to take a taxi straight to Al’s instead of fucking about with tubes and buses! I phoned Al to tell him that I’d be there shortly and to get the beer out of the fridge. The taxi journey lasted 20 odd minutes, and in that time I had two phonecalls about the weekend, the first was from a good lad called Niel Johnstone who we have met up with a couple of times at New Order gigs and pish ups, he was phoning to say he’d see us out at the pub later, the second phone call was from my favourite compadre in Chorley, Rocket Mick! He was wishing us all the best for a mad weekend, I arrived at Al’s just after this and just as I was getting out of the cab my phone started making funny noises again, it was a message from the Hibster saying he had just set off and would be with us soon, funnily enough, it was Dave who opened the door at Al’s to let me in, bit of a practical joker is our Dave!

Al has a nice wee pad, the only problem being it’s about 18 floors up, and reminded me of the first time we climbed the stairs at Parkhead to find our season ticket seats in the North Stand! The first thing I did (after opening the beer and smoking a fag) was to have a look at Al’s collection of DVD’s and Videos, very impressive I have to admit, and it’s amazing how I restrained myself from stealing a couple of his original Factory videos on my way home on the Sunday. Dave had brought with him several New Order CD’s, he has all the True Faith 2001 remixes you know! We talked a bit of New Order then we got more phone calls from other lads from the website saying they were going to see us about 7 in the pub. Secured day passes from local newsagents (which according to Dave, only last for a day) and took bus and tube into the heart of London, after a brisk walk through Soho (again, Dave’s idea) we were at the provocatively named bar SLUG & LETTUCE. When I say provocatively, I am of course joking, the place is actually not too bad, full up with a lot of posh totty and lads in shirts and ties. Already in the bar when we arrived were, ATR aka Stash aka Alex Staszko, he was sat with John and Christine (who feature on the 5 11 DVD) and Mark aka Johnny Giles. Not long after we had arrived I received a phone call from a funny sounding lad called Vinny, we would later find out he is Canadian. Niely aka Hac Must Be Rebuilt, Vinny aka Midnight Blue and Pete aka Solitude arrived in drips and drabs, several pints of Stella were sunk inbetween waiting on people. Then we had the pleasure of a particularly annoying Aussie bird, I think Hibster nicknamed het the “Tequila Slammer Slapper” she asked me, Dave and Pete to join her in one, I asked her what she meant which confused her a bit, but I found most amusing. It took an hour to get her to fook off without taking a drink off of her! She’d disappear to Alex’s table then be back 10 minutes later annoying us again. I also had the pleasure of some of Alex’s stories following New Order around the world, and his recent trips seeing Kraftwerk here, there and everywhere! Iain and Bunny also arrived a bit later on, as did Greg and Ness. It’s funny how you can never remember exactly what you were talking about on nights like this, neworder mostly! But everyone seemed to be having a great craic. A good lad and also an Onliner called Ian came out to meet everyone as well, Ian hasnae got an aka because he never posts on the forum, but he is the lad who created a cover for Leuven 85 using a sticker from a bottle of Stella and changing the Stella Artois part to New Order.

Later on in the evening the lads from the tribute band Re:Order appeared, Mark went over to chat to them as he had met them before, a great bunch of guys they were, and it’s here I must apologise, everyone knows how bad my memory is, so instead of trying to remember their names, I simplified things by reverting to their “stage” names of Barney, Hooky and Steve! Hope that didnae bother you’s too much lads. They had brought a lap top along with them, I didn’t notice till later, because I was over chatting with Ian and Pete, they brought headphones as well and they were playing Mpegs of a couple of tracks they had recorded from their last gig, fookin magic stuff an all! I think everyone had a wee turn listening in, I heard most of the cover versions of Ceremony and Everything’s Gone Green, top class stuff, and I’m gutted I haven’t got the money to go see them with a few of the others on Saturday at the Hope and Anchor! Before we knew it, it was kicking out time! Everyone said their cheerios, but for one reason or another myself, Jarvo, Dave and Alex headed over to The O Bar / Nightclub. We lasted about 5 minutes dowstairs before we headed up to the normality of the bar, good craic in there, and especially funny was this Blonde American bird with not many clothes on. Alex even bought a round without prompting which amazed Al. We got thrown out of there about 2.30 I think (we were all rather drunk) and we got Alex back to the street where he was staying with Iain and Bunny. We then went for a Maccy D’s, inside were a group of lads looking a bit dodgy, we got talking to them somehow, I think Jarvo asked one of the young lads if he’d been in a bit of a fight (he had a cut face) this young lad proceeded to tell us about getting a kicking from some lad after having all his fags nicked from said lad, really, you couldn’t make this stuff up. The best thing about it was this young guy’s bravado – he thought it was really funny himself, and the cockney accent of his made the story even funnier, he had all of us in tears! Jarvo and Hibster got some grub and we headed off for a taxi, the first taxi driver we found said £30 when we told him where Jarvo stayed, luckily the next one said £20 so we dived in that one, it was a mad looking Rasta guy, and I’m sure we were listening to Bob Marley on the way back to Al’s. Almost all the trip home, Dave was in the front talking to the driver about cricket, I was in the back laughing about it with Al, we got back cracked open another few beers, I must have smoked about 100 fags during the night, I felt terrible, but we still carried on nonetheless, Dave was moaning about always getting the front seat of taxi’s. I think we watched the old football violent classic “The Firm” cos we were laughing at some of the faces in the film (Jim MacDonald from Coronation Street and Mickey Pierce from Only Fools and Horses being just two examples) we also had the computer on, so we were posting messages on the New Order website as well. I think we finally got tae bed about 5.30am. Hibster’s snoring kept me awake for at least another hour, you really have to hear it to believe it, at one point we had the next door neighbour banging the wall to tell us to turn the music down. Just remembered, the funniest thing said that night was Alex telling me after The O Bar that he didn’t understand one word of what Hibster said all evening.

Saturday.

I think we woke up about 11, so not much sleep was enjoyed by myself. I still can’t explain how bad I felt, I think the best example would be to say I was drinking coke for the first 3 hours in the pub that afternoon! Jarvo got up and made everyone a coffee, which was well appreciated, he also found the energy to make us all a sausage sandwich, and later on Al and Dave ate a curry that Jarvo had prepared the day before, bahollocks to that! Them 3 or 4 hours before we went to the Canterbury Arms are a blur, I think we were all a bit dazed and Confused (probably still a wee bit drunk from the night before) The Canterbury Arms is situated just around the corner from the Brixton Academy, so that was a good choice. We watched England beat Wales at Rugby, and I received phone calls from Rocket Mick (who pished himself when I told him I was drinking coke!) then Mike Garrity who was on his way and Vinny who was gonna be meeting a friend at the pub. Mike and his pal (sorry Mike I’ve already forgotten his name!) arrived first, twas good to finally put a face to that accent of his! They joined us in time for the Newcastle versus Charlton game, talked a wee bit about New Order, then Johnny Giles arrived, then Paul aka Mickey Way and his missus Tania, Jon and Christine, Vinny, Alex, Gary and Gordie and Digital Mike’s other pal who’s name I also cannae remember, but who looks a lot like Shaun Ryder. (I have just spoke to Mike on the phone, so Ren and Jase, I do apologise!) I also spent most of the day on text messages trying to get DoN out to the pub, but he was a bit skint so we didn’t meet up with him till after the first Kraftwerk show. I was finally persuaded by Dave to get on the beers at 7 o clock! The first pint of Stella was absolutely minging, but I was ok after that. We all headed off to the Academy about 7.45, and luckily enough we only had to queue for about 5 minutes, as we were entering the gig I spotted that comedian Bill Bailey (from TV’s Never Mind The Buzzcock’s, Blackbooks) he was a sight cos the wind was mental, and we know he hasnae got much up top! The place was absolutely buzzing, people of all ages, I saw a kid of no more than 7 or 8 with his dad, we also saw guys dressed up in Black Suits and Red Shirts, loads of sadsters about. I think the oldest people I saw at either gig was about 60, then Al said Ralf and Florian would be about the same age, so it kind of made sense. We had to make do with the space just inside the doors to the hall, the place was jam-packed and you could barely move. I could see fook all cos I’m so wee! Jarvo joked he was gonna put me on his shoulders. I thought bugger this and headed to the bar just outside the hall with Jarvo and got the beers in, withing the next hour we must have had another 5 pints. The sound was fantastic, and even better was the pictureshow on behind the band on the screens. Highlight without doubt for me on the first show was “The Robots” I had been anticipating this since Jarvo sent me Kraftwerk Mpegs a while back. I would loved to have been down the front for that. The first gig was most memorable for this bird sitting on the bar next to us, cos me, Dave and Al could all see up her skirt! Nick King also appeared at this gig very briefly, as did a couple of Jarvo’s work pals. I think the first show finished at 10, so we all headed back to the Canterbury Arms for MORE liquid refreshments, unfortunately the back hall was closed, so it took a bit of haggling with the bar staff to open it up again for us, luckily they did. I was sat for most of this time (waiting for the 12.30am gig) with Paul and Tania and their pal Jazz, great craic, and if Tania reads this, I apologise for going on and on about Celtic…..again!

DoN finally appeared with his pal Mark (who I had met when I stayed at DoN’s last year) DoN was wearing what can only be described as a sun shield, Christ, that white jacket was BRIGHT bruv! Another few beers and we were on our way over to Kraftwerk again, it’s safe to say we were all a wee bit pished. The place was mobbed again by the time they appeared on stage, this concert was magic as well, Tour de France stood out for me as did The Model (at which time I phoned to tell the missus I loved her!!!) No-one remembers who Kraftwerk are until you sing The Model do they!?! She let me hear the message played back when I got home. Drunk people should NOT be allowed phones. Again I was stuck at the back with Jarvo, but we had a good laugh, Hibster had dived down to the front to see it more clearly, and even texted us half way through the set to say he had loads of room down there. I think they played a few more songs at this gig as well, but I might be wrong cos they play about 18 encores. Dave met up with us near the end, at which time Gary and Gordie were also stood with us, for the last song Al decided to put this rather tasty looking little blonde number on his shoulders, I still have no idea where she came from! And I believe it was her who suggested we hit the “Dogstar” which was a bar not too far from the venue (Gary and Gordie declined the offer) Jarvo told us that the birds brother had warned us she was very “high maintenance” which was funny as fook. I have no real memories of the bar at all, as I was trying to drink as many pints as Jarvo at the gig. Dave remembers me getting about 4 rounds in a row in, and again, according to Dave, I spent at least half an hour talking to two Corby lads, I have no recollection of this whatsoever!!! On leaving the bar about 4ish we tried to get a taxi, the first taxi we jumped into broke down before we started our journey, so we quickly jumped into another and that broke down half way home, we had to get out and push! Again me and Al were quickest into the backseats of the taxi and Hibster was left with a driver who claimed he knew Massive Attack personally (Dave comes from Bristol) Again myself and Al were just pissing ourselves. We got back to Al’s and everyone crashed out relatively quickly I think (well it was about 5)

A couple of very quick shout outs (I is getting down with the yoof) Jarvo, an absolute diamond geezer, still cannae believe you wanted to suffer mine and Dave’s presence for the weekend, not many people would put up with the pair of us for one night, let alone two! Loads of cracking stories between the three of us, and a thoroughly cracking time was had. Cheers also for that book of yours – I’ve had a quick look, I will read and e-male you a review (did you see what I did there?) Hibster, that accent of yours is more annoying than Jarvo’s and Alex’s put together, but I have to hold my hands up and say yer a very funny lad, funny as in funny, not funny as in strange. Hopefully we can all do it again soon.

Didn’t really want to single anyone else out, but cheers to everyone who bothered to take the time to turn up, even if I only had the chance to say “Hello” there will always be a next time when Neworder sort themselves out. Twas a fooking pleasure peeps. Good luck to the Re:Order lads for their gig at the Hope and Anchor at the weekend, hopefully you’s can play the Northampton area soon!
