Most Influential Band

In a lot of cases inspired may be a better word, a lot of people were inspired to form bands post-76, their influences were pretty diverse though. My first band when I was a fifth year at school , had an Hawkwind fan on guitar, a pink fairies fan on bass, a deep purple fan on rhythm and a young offender on vocals. I played drums in an attempt to be Keith Moon. We did a 20 minute version of Sweet Jane and Baba O'reilly 's chords and made up lyrics. We split up when our singer got into Wigan casino all-nighters and the rest of us discovered cider. But we'd have shit on Northside :D

Sounds a bit like my first band in 1980! Me on bass, Lew on guitar, Dave on vocals and Jon the tub thumper (no drum kit so got two fermenting bins and turned them over, very Shop Assistants....). No mic stand so had to suspend it from the light fitting. Guitar and bass through the same amp (a very cool WEM bass amp that had previously been used by Mott The Hoople). We wrote about ten songs, all of which had lyrics and random noises to accompany them, they never sounded the same from one rendition to the next. Very punk. First gig attracted two people. Band's name changed every week. Best song was "Dogs of Worcester", all 25 seconds of it which contained one thrashed chord and the lyrics "Dogs of Worcester, they're all so fucking ugly". Happy days.

Sounds like you'd have shit on Northside too First drumkit : Bally's dads de-mob suitcase , a rolled up two man tent, some cushions and in an inspired moment we ma de a snare from a round metal tea tray and dried peas, covered in clingfilm, piece of round plywood on that and voila ... could even do rimshots, we didn't have cymbals cos we thought we'd be different, Budgie out of the Banshees must have had a similar first drumkit . You actualy settled on a name ! Fuck we never got the hang of that, however one still comes to mind Firebombed Funeral Parlour , the rest were equaly dire

Didn't the Jesus & Mary Chain cover Dogs Of Worcester on their Psycho tour? Used to like the Shoppies though.
