So Wifey was watching that Val Kilmer Doors movie last week and I thought to myself, Jimmy boy sounds like Ian in a sense. That lower than normal singing voice. Then I thought some more, both wrote poetry, but then again many people do.

I tired of the Doors long ago. Pretty kewl when I was in high school but I have not played any of their music in over a decade.

One word: "Decades"

Ian Curtis was really influenced by Jim Morrison. One of his heroes, with Iggy Pop, Bowie etc. The Doors were alright, some songs are really good, some aren't, but they fit well in that great period of creativity which gave us the Velvets and the Stooges...

JM ruined his life when he was famous, sadly Ian took his before the world knew him. There are millions out there who will never hear Joy Division or Ian,i feel privileged to know how special they were/are.

I would say that the departure of JM is closer to the departure of Kurt Cobain - music, drugs, fame, death. I think that Ian's departure from his life was in a different category.

I think the vocals and the lyrical achievements are the real things to compare. Ian's lyrics are much better given some of the shiite Jimmy allowed to be released. Musically, JD pushed the envelop alot more, the Doors being rather blues based with episodes of wierdness and drug influence.
