'Teen Movie' Soundtrack Sends Manson, Weiland, Saliva Back To The '80s November 06, 2001

Marilyn Manson aren't the only modern rockers revisiting '80s hits for the soundtrack to "Not Another Teen Movie," which comes out December 4.

In addition to monsieur Manson's creepy version of "Tainted Love," which was a top 10 hit for Soft Cell in 1982 (see "Marilyn Manson Cover 'Tainted Love,' Record Live DVD"), the disc will feature Goldfinger covering Nena's "99 Red Balloons," Saliva tackling the Pretenders' "Message of Love," Mest covering Modern English's "I Melt With You," Muse reworking the Smiths' "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want," Good Charlotte playing Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's "If You Leave" and Phantom Planet covering Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby."

Both Depeche Mode and New Order receive double-exposure on the disc. Depeche Mode's "But Not Tonight" is covered by Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland and "Never Let Me Down Again" is played by the Smashing Pumpkins. New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" is reworked by Stabbing Westward, and Orgy's career-breaking version of "Blue Monday" is included as well.

"Not Another Teen Movie" was directed by Joel Gallen and stars Jaime Pressly, Chyler Leigh and Eric Jungmann.

My "NoooOOOooo!" is referring to the Orgy cover. I don't know who "Stabbing Westward" are.. doesn't sound good though. But I quite like SP's cover of Never let me down again. It's the best song on the DM tribute album (an album full of very VERY weak cover versions)

Just when you thought Orgy were banished to the Pit of Eternal Peril, they come charging back. Damn, that sucks. Well, I'm not planning on catching that flick anyway, so no worries...

Why do always the shit bands choose to cover New Order?

If I heard right Muse covering that tender Smiths lament (the story of my life - again) sounds like a genuinely scary prospect - have any of you SEEN or HEARD Muse?? Bloody hell. Talk about overwrought and overtheatrical!! Utterly Schizophrenic Ten-octave prog rock insanity that is so over the top it makes Mariah Carey sound like the speaking clock. Check Muse out at your peril. They are a truly frightening band. AND the singer looks like frigging Edward Scissorhands!!!!!

hmm yes it was.. but I never said it was by soft cell, and i don't think the text i quoted does either.. it just says that soft cell had a top ten hit with that song.. i think it says so mostly because otherwise most peopl would not know what song it was... I like the original version though, but i like both because they're quite different...
