Just watching the enhanced section of In Session, and i noticed something rather interesting. The session was recorded obviously, but has it been fully released? I ask cos when you see Steve drumming, tapped to the side of his drumkit is the song list running order. Thing is its got fuckin other tracks written on it,if you look at it there is no other reason for it to be there other than to tell him what their playing. Vol.2 maybe?

Are we talking about the Peel Sessions thing? I've not seen the packaging but surely that was recorded at the Beeb, in a studio and there wouldn't be much (any?) need for a 'set-list'.
Is the picture perhaps just snapped at an unrelated gig?!

It's actually the words. Sadly, they could only afford one auto-cue and Steve had to make his own arrangements...

No,its a full motion video of them in a garage or something, hardly BBC,and when the camera goes onto him drumming you can see it sellotaped to his kit. It isnt lyrics cos you can plainly see Crystal & Regret listed at the top.
It's the band's rehersal room/studio. The audio of this track was broadcast live into the Radio One studios while John Peel's show was on air (he was having an aniversary show to celebrate something like 90 years as a radio host).
At the time, New Order were practicing for what went on to become the Get Ready tour - which would explain the set list (a draft one for the shows??).
I heard the show when this was first broadcast, and it was the only one that went out on air. They may well have played an entire set before or afterwards, but that would have just been the band practising for the gigs, no doubt.
Andy
id say they were preparing for gigs. its no coincidence that the sessions were recorded in1998 ,2001/02. all years they were gigging (i think).
So they could very well have recorded the entire set list to play back and see what was working and what wasnt? I doubt they`d run through all those tracks then just record half of them.
Very possibly. They could also have recorded every time they practised for the Get Ready tour, and Hooky may have them in his vault, but we wouldn't want to watch them all would we? ![]()
I watched it but I forgot to pay attention
I always thought this song was recorded after the 2001 gigs and just before the 2002 summer gigs. Dunno why.
It was late August or September 01 wasn't it ? Just before the UK 2001 dates - they hadn't played Transmission on the July/August dates that year but did begin to include it after this session and from then on in.
