anybody heard about this release, suppossedly just out, for sale at Insound... is this a bootleg, if a somewhat legit release?

my local shop has 20 copies for 14.99. i doubt it's limited to the number they claim. this is just a bootleg somebody's cashing in on.

A shite bootleg - do not touch. Heart and Soul has better versions of some of these tracks.

... and the Refractured box set has an even better quality about it...not!

It was a crap bootleg four months ago, and still is now. I've had the tape for nearly 24 years of the show and that recording is as good as this, if not better. That's old.....

It was a bloody good gig though - I woz there!!

Maybe not completely crap, read on...

I haven't read anything (like the LWTUA site) that's mentioned there's more than one source for this. I believe that second source that's more complete than the existing issue must be of some interest to the diehards, no?

About 30 seconds of the pre-gig backing tape appears here which doesn't appear (either not taped or edited out) on the boot, as well as a minute between the main set and the encore, with Komakino missing out on Ian's initial "'Q" as well as almost a minute of post-gig cheering after the final tune.

'Komakino' appears to have been edited a lot more heavily than NMC so you can't necessarily assume that just because NMC has audience banter than Komakino doesn't that they're different. However, there are substantial differences in the audience chatter that both do share that lead me to conclude that they're from different sources. For one, NMC's got a lot more of said utterances, with my favorite being the mysterious utterance of 'tea biscuits' between LWTUA and Isolation.

If you get a chance, Herr Detweiler, I'd be curious to know which version your 24 year old tape is.

Perhaps you misunderstand. I was pulled up on the fact that when I asked the same question 4 months ago, it had been covered 2 months previous. Save your medals. I have enough of those.

i guess "independent" record shops used to carry bootlegs, and I guess it should not be a big surprise that "indie" online shops would also, just think they should be upfront about it. i guess the angle is that it has the full concert that is only sampled from Heart and Soul.... of course it is still a bootleg, so the definitions are getting pretty fuzzy here.

Before it shrank and lost most of its useful information the 'In Between Days' site used to list that there were several recordings of the Lyceum gig. I'm only aware of 2 and these have both been in circulation for over 20 years - the Komackino source and from the descriptions given what sounds like the No More Ceremonies source - the latter has got a lot more audience chatter from people standing near to the taper.

...been meaning to start a thread on this for a while now. Had a chance to hear this release. Quality isn't bad, but not great either. Unfortunately, this disc suffers from having gaps (not two seconds though) between each index point. A pet peeve for live recordings.
