Since you have started posting on this FORUM has your love of this group been spoiled or tainted?Do you ever feel that posting about them and reading about what others think make you question why you ever bothered with them in the first place?Lots of negative thoughts and attitudes can be found here from time to time eg CRAP live or such and such an album should be REMASTERED,track B taken off etc.Or does posting here harden you and ENHANCE your love of the group even more? Are we all just wanting them to stop producing music or continue forever?Sometimes it seems that i spend so much time here i don't even listen to them or am put off listening to a song cos the MAJORITY say it is CRAP so it might become that. Then again lots of groups taht are slagged off around here eg THE CURE,PET SHOP BOYS and THE WORZELS are damn good and i find myself wanting to dig their records out and give em a spin.So come on now fellow NOOL's.Is NOOL damaging your love for the band or just your health? Now be gentle and post early. Cheers Rocket Mick asking WHERE WILL IT END?:D BTW i hope they go on for YEARS. I prefer GILLIAN being in the band. I am getting used to listening to OLD CRAP LIVE recordings. I can still listen to 8 remixes in one go. I am probably passed my SELL-BY date but like NEW ORDER i still CARE.:thumb: I like posting...good to talk. You lot make me laugh. Is HUNTSMAN missing US. Will J.WHITE find TRUE LOVE. A thread to get you CONFESSING:cry:

Well i thought i KNEW most of the FACTS.Turned out i knew a lot but still masses to learn. What has changed for me is that i used to think REPUBLIC was BRILLIANT but now doubt it a lot more than i thought.Probably NEVER having challenged my love for the band with any other TRUE NEW ORDER fans before,i had nothing to really change my view point.I still like this album a lot but have CHANGED my belief in the band and all things RELATED.I am hooked on this site and find myself checking out more and more certain tracks and remixes.I just wonder sometimes is this a good or bad direction to take anymore? Regards ROCKET MICK:thumb:

I like this site. My enjoyment of the band has been enhanced by finding out heaps of info about them and finding fellow fans from around the world.

I can live without questions/polls of which album or song is better. When I feel I have something to contribute I do. I mainly look to this site to find out info on new releases, and I do occaisionaly look at the history section and faq pictures etc.

So Rocket I can't tell you how you should feel, other than to suggest go with what you feel. I for one still think Rpublic and the Subculture 12 inch are great, no matter how often they get slagged here.

I am thankful that I found a group of people that enjoys the band as much as I do. The BS on the site has not changed my opinion of the band or any of the songs.

No, nothing on here has changed my opinion of the band. There hasn't been a single band, EVER, besides NO, that would make me drive 13 hours straight overnight for one of their gigs.

That said, I really do like the varying opinions that people have about any number of things, which I do read and think about. Doesn't bother me in the least, for example, that Tim slags off Brotherhood, which I quite like, for the weak production on some "mediocre" songs, at the time, I found myself singing them all of the time, and that album still beat the crap out of everything else that came my way in 86. For one thing, I was quite happy to get As It Is..... on record, after hearing it in Oakland the year before, I wasn't sure if NO was gonna play that a couple of times and then lose it forever or what, same as with R.E.M and Wendell Gee, I heard that a year and a half before Fables came out.

Besides, I've met and communicated with loads of great people from all over the world, which is nice when one lives in an area like mine, where the scenery's nice, but is way behind the times, for the most part. It's probably just my laid back attitude that doesn't allow me to worry unnecessarily about things I can't control, the varying opinions have led me indeed to look at things in a new light, which is a good thing indeed.

Sitting alone in a city called Abilene I feel myself entertained to see people sharing a lot of different things here. Well I am a new order fan too, so all that matches perfectly eventually (by the way this month is the 10th anniversary since I heard a new order song so far).:smoking: Cheers :thumb:

Nothing changed opinion wise 'cos of this site, I've always been in a state of flux when it comes to how I view the Order, change me mind constantly, I dont think I'll ever come up with a definitive overall view and that for me is as it should be.

The whole appeal of the on-line thing is reading about various nool thoughts on a diverse range of subjects, and I gotta say, I am more interested in the none Order topics these days, I get to read various opinions from accross the world political spectrum, some informed; some naive, some I read up on, others aint for me.

That thread link to Chernobyl the other week, that is somethin I probably would'nt have actively sought out on me own, however It was one of the more positive things I've seen. So I get a broader world view, which aint bad and I get to agree / disagree about the Order.

Still cant understand collectors though, but I am trying.

I may post negative things about the band but that doesn't mean they're not my favorite group. New Order's human side is part of what makes them so fascinating and endearing to me. They are, warts and all, the best band of my lifetime. I think this next album will eclipse the fantastic Get Ready yet manage to somehow be ignored again. We've exhausted all other topics between albums and now we've resorted to nitpicking and microanalysis when we should be out getting fresh air or doing the dishes.

New Order All The Way bring on the new album!

After posting sporadically at NOOL for the past year, I know more about The Cure, oddly enough.

I think I dislike Joy Division more since I started using this site, but to be honest, I never liked `em that much anyway.

Good question Mick. For many years I lived in this state of isolation, or so I thought, having lost touch with all the people I used to know from gigs or tapes before 1989 when it all stopped for me. When the internet arrived I used to curse its timing - New Order had been and gone before it arrived, at least to me. Then they returned, this site grew, and slowly but surely the fellow travellers began to surface from their own isolation. I knew I was in the right place when I realised that Shug was the same person who had contacted me a dozen years before for tapes....It never ceases to amaze me who we bump into on here, people from way back, faces from gigs that now have identities and personalities away from the front row scrummage. I've made some good friends on here, and learned a hell of a lot from a vast number of people, with whom it has been a pleasure to exchange random snippets of information and banter.

As for New Order and how my opinions of them have changed, it's rather difficult to say. I was astounded they came back for Get Ready, and it took me a while to get used to the different type of live show they do now. None of the gigs since 1989 that I have seen would get into my top 20 performances, though the experiences certainly would, primarily for the camaraderie beforehand. I'm glad they did come back though, and will almost forgive them Slow Jam if they knock out a few belters on the next one !

As Tim says, a good question. This site is a good meeting point for kindred souls, and as they say, its good to talk.

Funny thing is the thing that drew me to New Order in the first place was their innaccessibility; the lack of information and the hunger to learn more about this fabled group of people who made otherworldly and beauteful music. Sometimes these days I find it hard to square that with the fact that we now know everything (well not quite) about them, from their height in fathoms to the wart on Barney's arse.

In spite of that occasional misgiving, I think this site is a great resource and as Tim says, has drawn together many disparate and 'isolated' people together. Wouldn't have heard from John Scott, whom I met at College in the mid 80's otherwise, or had generous access to some classic live stuff through weeding, or shared thoughts with many other people on the same wavelength etc, etc.

Baldy's been on the piss again:ignore: Good topic, which fookin astounds me:eek:

I never change my mind on what I like song wise, there's only maybe 3 or 4 songs I can say I don't like. I like to think I may have changed a couple of people's minds about Slow Jam and Rock The Shack though:evil4: I miss the good ole days - Major banging on about Hooky being hid in his wardrobe, Muffy sending out free CD's, Liv and Kezbah and Sophisticated Lady cos they were just about the only bird posters and everyone tried giving them the patter, Huntsman and Patrick for their constant load of ole bollocks, Marty Gray for being Marty Gray, Rocket Mick cos he used to be funny....... Until we get another album or single this place will remain pretty stagnant, cannae wait for the next batch of dope fookers to come visit:evil4:

NOOL is, indisputably, good for your soul. I also prefer Gillian in the band.

Put it this way: I'm travelling down from Aberdeen for the Gretton tribute show, something I probably wouldn't even consider if it wasn't for the fact that I know I'll be meeting up with familiar faces who I keep in contact with via this forum.

Hence, VIVA NOOL!!!

This place is great and has enhanced my love of Neworder. I like that there are people here who love NO as much as I do and impressed that many people know so much more about the band/music/history than me. (Something many of my friends would be surprised to learn!)

If it wasn't for this place (and to a degree the Ceremony list) then I wouldn't have a collection of old live CDrs,and FAC ALL of RM himself.

Who needs a FAC number anyway ;)

My thoughts exactly. This place hasn't damaged my opinion of NO in any way, shape or form. Long live NO and NOOL!

i've learned a lot about the band, some of the griping is better than 'dynasty,' and NOOL is an all-around fantastic site. i never posted on the internet until i came here-- whether that's good or bad, i have yet to decide....:)

Posting here hasn't altered my opinion of the band one iota. I'm a belligerent soul and know what I like and like what I know so will happily still listen to the likes of Rock The Shack and Chemical no matter what the overwhelming consensus.

Some of the postings here do make me chuckle however, or occasionally perplex. I still fail to grasp the multiple Cure postings, and threads relating to other (supposedly) 'similar' bands. I've got New Order mates going back twenty years and don't know anyone who ever raised such connections before I started posting here. I suppose all my New Order following mates are like me in the main though, in terms of age, attitude and interests and, as such, the people I get on best with here and regard as true friends (you know who you are) are the people I share common ground with away from this website. We would've been mates with had we met under any circumstances. It's interesting to read differing takes on New Order though, from different age-groups and countries, but I do find myself scratching my head on occasions.

And it still never ceases to amaze me just how seriously some people can take New Order. I enjoy this band as a little light relief, and don't read too much meaning into anything they do ... actually, for that reason too I'd say this site has perhaps waned any interest I had in Joy Division. Perhaps not Joy Division per se, but some of the 'fans' who follow them. The "Ceremony - JD or NO" thread was a moot point for me and the split was evident.

We desperately need something from the band though, and something fast. It's starting to get a little stale round here with the same old threads rehashed and regurgitated. It's been two years since a gig and eighteen months since Retro and I think it's starting to show in the quality of the discourse. BCD's often of more interest these days than the Digital Republic. You get the odd new face come in and shake things up but they're getting few and far between now and things'll start to slow down ever more till the band themselves get their arses in gear.

For that reason too, I'm gutted I'm missing the Gretton thing in Mancland as it's always refreshing to see everyone, and might be a good chance to put faces to some new names ... it's one thing swapping tales with people day in / day out over t'net but you can't beat good ol' fashioned social interaction over a jar or three. I'd even consider missing me hols if New order were defo playing! (But they won't be, he hopes).

Cheers for the replies and some excellent opinions expressed by my fellow NOOL's!:clap:On the whole i have been made to focus on the lesser known tracks whilst also learning a lot more background to this group.Part of the MYTH of the ORDER has probably been eroded by this site but i have been greatly rewarded in meeting you all either ONLINE or in person.I don't envisage me leaving this site for a very long time but wish that HUNTSMAN would come back to liven the lonely INBETWEEN albums (cue CURE backlash by DIGITAL CURED OF NEW ORDER!) timespan.I do love the SILLYSIDE of this site yet sometimes the NORMAL site is far more hilarious when trying to SERIOUS.I just don't know where you guys get the time and energy from to be here and work or study.I have so much time on my hands most of the time it is EASY for me to be here.Anyhow for those of you BIGTIME posters who have not replied yet, drop us a note on this thread.I am genuinely interested in KNOWING what you think.BTW i have not forgot RON or DIGITAL in the promise of something SOON.But just as an aside i have chopped of the LEGS of my bed today in order to make it easier for a certain friend of mine to be able to get on to sleep.BEGGARS BELIEF but absolutely TRUE.It could only happen at the PLANET ROCKET.The EX-GIRLFRIEND'S dog TASHA is now sixteen and although extremely fit when walking, due to her failing eyesite and a little bit of arthritis she felt it would be better for me to have a FUTON bed.Don't like wasting her money so i paid £2 for a saw...and BOB's YER UNCLE!PS i don't want any OLD DOG JOKES! :p ROCKET MICK:D

Great to know that there is a special place for us weirdos. The resources available here set the standard that all bands should follow. Discovering the live recordings has been wonderful. Tracing the evolution of NO songs like TPK and Temptation is almost worth a college degree.

I find myself listening to NO, even shitty live recordings more now than before I staggered in here. And my lust for the new album grows.

I miss Gillian. Bring back TPK live. Drop TBTHOG and BLT. Tour the States.

erm...well...I reckon this site has actually drawn me closer to my favorite group of performers...

I've learned so much about them that wasn't in the books...I've met some fine people (yes MICK, that does include you!:p )...even if I lost my rucksack...that trip to London is still a high point in my so called life...

Probably wouldn't have found out about Area:One...Brixton...or Finsbury without it...I'm sure I never would have been the recipient of so many packages...but by the same token...wouldn't have had to have spent as much on postage....

and I surely would have never ventured up to Seattle to meet up with the Celtic crew and that one Red Devil supporter...

so here's to seeing Allan and Brian in July...and the rest of you lot when the order finally does decide to do another gig...just keep me away from that extra strong ale next time....PLEASE?!?!?!

Good thread!

As for NO, I love their music even more than I used to. Since my first visit to NOOL I've learnt lots about them but to be honest that is not what it draws me here. These days I just skim briefly through Digital Republic and go straight to Behind Close Doors. As Jarvo's said we desperately need the new album. The great thing about NOOL is how it has evolved to become my LOCAL, a place where you can drop in just to unwind, sometimes get involved in a high falutin discussion on politics, sometimes laugh at some of the very funny "silly posts", sometimes just quietly enjoy the craic with a pint of best bitter.

I can honestly say that if it were not for NOOL my love for New Order would have decayed into a boring 20 years marriage. As it is I am itching to go to the next gig, no matter where it is, how much it costs or if I have to forfait my holidays to get there and an added bonus is knowing that I will know 75% of the people in the first three rows.

This site is class, and has enhanced my appreciation of the band. Up until I caught up with the rest of the planet & got internet access (late 2002) my knowledge of the band was limited to their songs & names. This was also one of the first sites I logged onto, having found it through a Google search on my mobile phone long before I invested in a PC. The media section is unreal. Through NOOL I also got into Joy Division, albeit much more gradually than NO, which was pretty much instant. Best of all I can log on & read about the band, read peoples' opinions & experiences of them etc., which is great because I don't actually know any other NO/JD fans. (All my family/friends' taste in music is shite, mine's perfect.:D) Usually get the "weird/depressing(?)" assessment from people, although I think 1 or 2 mates may be slowly seeing the light. Obviously New Order won't go on forever, unlike Barney's waistline, ;) but even if the next album was to be the last, and if they all decided to call it quits, I hope NOOL will continue.

So....

NOOL = :cool2: :jump:

yeah. if it wasnt for this site, id still think here to stay was shite. but i like it now.apart from the information part of it (there should be some sort of an online effort at writing the definative, nerdy online book), its nice to hear others views on new order. there are some people out there who think the flip side of republic is good!!!! BCD is good too. being one of 3 fans in ireland can be a bit wierd , so its nice to know that there are others out there. id proberbally listen to new order 70% of the time, were i posting here or not. its good to get others negative views on neworder too. new order are my favourite group, but i still think shellshock is shite

this site has got me into new order even more! (although i dont get to listen to them much!) its a brilliant place to come and post with like minded people. yes we all get a bit negative when they dont release new stuff,we do slag them off from time to time,in my eyes new order are a unique band, they do things when and how they want and don't mind if they ruffle a few peoples feathers on the way! this has got to be the best new order site for anything a person (and lay person) needs to know about new order. the things i've learnt over the last few years is unbelieveable. questions are usually answered straight away by many fantastic new order fans who know what they are talking about. there are some genuine new order proffesors on this site (rocket mick, old blue to name but a few!)always know the answers to any questions, and willing to help any waifs and strays that end up on our fantastic forum ! I thought i new quite a bit about new order,I WAS WRONG! The stuff i new about was'nt worth knowing,i came and you showed me the way! thanks to all the people who have helped and contributed to my obbsession over the last few years. may this site continue to be the best new order site for many years !

regards  p.s i hope they release something new soon!
