Strange question I know, but hey, it could happen. The three of em carried on regardless when Gillian quit to tend to her & Stephens ill daughter. I think its a shame overall, as, though we have been given a brand new album & three very good new singles since Mrs. Morris left, I dont think post-Gillian NewOrder will ever be as good as what they were from 1981-1993.
Seeing Gill on '3 16' made me realise how much I miss her talents. In the 1998 reformation, N.O still seemed like a proper "together" band, ready to make new music with the exact same line-up as all those years previously. But fast-forward to 2002, Finsbury Park & all that.... N.O to me appeared like a cross between Pink Floyd & a tribute outfit, with their oh-so-important backing singer, session guitarist & guest appearance from some boring actor. But Barn & Hooky seemed to be having so much fun, its almost like Gills place in the band never even happened ![]()
Being that, in most bands, if a drummer quits, he just gets replaced rather than the band parting ways totally, I actually think that if Steve was to join his wife in retirement, Messrs. Sumner & Hook would still put out N.O records in some fashion. Whether thats right or wrong is a matter of opinion, but to me, it would dilute even further an already-watered down version of what was once upon a time, the greatest band on the planet, bar none.
