Yesterday, the official Pet Shop Boys website located at petshopboys.co.uk posted brand new answers from Neil Tennant, in response to fans' questions, and here is one:

Q. Also re: your work with Electronic, was the song "Getting Away With It" a self-inspired composition (meaning you wanted to write about Morrissey), or was it more of a result from having Johnny Marr in your collective presense?

A. The lyrics I wrote were just inspired by being in Manchester.

So, Neil Tennant actually wrote the lyrics for Getting Away With it ??????

i don't think Tennant mentioned that bit in NewOrder Story but someone posted the previous question posted to the Pet Shop Boy's website where Tennant said he wrote the lyrics "I've been walking in the rain just to get wet on purpose/I've been forcing myself not to forget, just to feel worse" with Morrissey in mind (from Moz's perspective). I love the song to begin with but that bit of info really increased my love for it.

Twas me that mentioned this - it was on a radio documentary....and mentioned in the NME last year. Tennant said he was paying homage to Morrissey with the GAWI lyrics.

Here's a general rule of thumb to go by. If the lyric is good, it couldn't have been Sumner who wrote it.
