My bird (she's the one in my avatar) had never heard of either Joy Division OR New Order until 4 years ago. Now she loves both, though she'd deny it. She secretly went into HMV during the sales and bought the entire New Order back catalogue and a couple of JD too... ![]()
She came with me to Finsbury Park to see New Order too. She really wanted to see Super Furry Animals though. Ended up saying that New Order were better - RESULT!

speaking of which, how many females actually post on nool? i noticed a few more recently, but in general, its usually all guys. which supports the lads band theory i guess.

Yeah, they are into gay disco, after all, apparently.
My girlfriend likes Joy Division wayy more than New Order.
Hot girls in the dance club here like New Order, it seems. And lots of my female friends like them.

Mrs ZicoVoeller likes New Order, but she says she prefers Joy Division as well. Me ex girlfriends were all brainwashed into the Order.

Surprisingly good memory fer a man of your age;)
My missus has given herself the title "NewOrder Widow",does that tell you anything? She fuckin hates them. "This is suicide music","Its shit". All this from someone who bought The Best Of Bros yesterday. Cheeky bitch!
My wife's been to a few NO gigs with me, knows all the songs and can often be heard humming the tunes. She's starting to get into JD as a result of the constant barrage of guitar riffs she hears every evening while I am practising the songs.....
The routine with me is usually thus: new girlfriend starts to love New Order due to proximity to me; time passes, stuff happens; relationship ends with much bitterness and anger; ex-girlfriend forever associates NO/JD with me and thus loathes them/treats them with disdain/pretends they don't exist (similar thing usually happens with Stoke City as well).
Fickle, or what???!!???

Unfortunately, yes: though given that the Britannia Stadium is an 800-mile-plus round trip from me these days, it IS more like 90 minutes twice a season. But I'm there in spirit, week-in, week-out, muttering to my (ethereal) self that "Fookin' Stoke yer SHIT!!! I'm never fookin' coming again..."
no wonder women don't post that much when you've got polls like this, of course women like new order as much as men,
as a member of the estrogen army, the answer is a resounding yes.
but don't trust me, i'm superhuman: i can bleed for three days straight without dying.
I'm female and I dig both Joy Division and New Order equally.
As for birds, I'm not sure but I know dogs like them. ;P At least mine do. One of my American Pit Bull Terriers, Ian (yes, after Ian Curtis) used to stare at the stereo speakers every time I played "Digital" as if he was in a daze. And I had another pit bull named Taylor that would get all mushy every time I sang "Temptation."

i dont have a pet bird so i cant answer this question but i have a cat who likes to hide when ever i put them on

of course we love 'em. And after having been spreading the gospel of NO/JD for years now, it's usually my female friends that turn out to be interested ![]()

i'm sure there are some girls out there who are fans... just wondering about the whole world wide vibe... and whether NewOrder has a positive relation with the feminine side everywhere.... as far as Joy Division, I would think that if you played Closer or Unknown Pleasures it would be a good way to get most girls to exit the party pronto![]()
Of course girls love New Order. Should imagine my Mrs has seen the band more times that most people here. And Dave Molly's Mrs has seen the band more times than most of the genuine 'ardcore. I just don't think women aren't quite so 'obsessive' about bands in general, not just New Order. It's been said New Order are a lad's band, but then name me a group who could certainly be regarded as a girl's band. You get teen-pop groups like Blue and Busted who are adored by thirteen year olds then old crooners like Cliff and Englebert and Mr Manilow who have they old birds creaming their knickers, but is there a genuine pop group around today who have a majority-female following in the twenty/thirty-something bracket? There must be some, but I can't think of anything off the top of me head. Whether it's following football teams, DJ's, groups, or whatever, it just seems more of a male activity.

Fooking hell - "slip them a length": I haven't heard that little euphemism for a LONG time!!! But, yeah, surely everyone knows that the sound of New Order gets gussets a-moistening all across the land????
The revered Doc used to be Barney's groupie tester, he is in fact Terry Mason in disguise......that beard and sling were disguises for the blond corkscrew hair and stripey trews !

Duran Duran had a lot of knickers thrown at them at the recent gigs ! Those thirty year olds !!
After my girlfriend read this thread, it inspired her to agree to having a JD/NO 'evening'.
We watched 'Here Are The Young Men', 'The New Order Story', and one of Shug's compilation vids (thanks Shug!)

Girls definitely like New Order... although not Blue Monday when it comes on, more of a lads tune!
Most girls I know love True Faith and Regret, and loads like that shit remix of Confusion from Blade. ![]()
Girls i know? well yea, i know two girls who love them, One is a big JD Fan, while the other likes NO more. My girl friend jessica is getting into the Brotherhood cd, but loves Ceremony, which led her to LWTUA, and other songs. And my friend Diane love Joy Division more then i do, but im a huge fan of both, so yea girls do dig JD AND NO!!!!![]()

Can't imagine a lad doing that. You birds are a tough lot. ;)
From a March 2 email exchange with an ex-girlfriend:
[Cure and Morrissey references omitted]
bLuE oRdEr: "Finally, New Order is supposed to have a new CD out in June. Probably no concerts."
Ex-Ms. bLuE oRdEr: "UGH!!!!! I remembered you loved them, that Blue Monday song I think it was. Or maybe it was Bizarre Love Triangle."
My ssiter probably likes Joy Division more than New Order. But in Manchester Joy Division seem to be more popular anyway. Joy Division are legendary and so is Ian Curtis. New Order are still around so won't really reach legend status especialy as they have been going for 24 years.
My parents don't really like either but they were too busy looking after me and my sister to be bothered about the music scene at time.
New Order are a difficult band to place though as they have no stereotype fans.

Well, I dunno about that: go into any pub within 500 metres of any New Order gig in the UK and you'll be confronted by quite literally hundreds of men in their 30s packed twelve deep at the bar ordering pints of lager. They'll probably all have short hair (the hair may well be going, mind), like football and their waistlines will have seen better days. I remember the pubs before the 'Pool Olympia show all too well!!!
So there's yer stereotype, mate!!

My wife dislikes Joy Division and tolerates New Order. Thinks Barney can't sing - but then again, neither can most of us!
I'm a girl and I love New Order! I met my best (girl) friend because of them! She introduced me into Joy Division! Another (girl) friend got into them too! We're all happy fans! See? And that whole happened in poor old Spain! ![]()
Well, I'm a girl, love Joy Division & New Order and have done since 1981. (My other half detests them!)
Oh yeah, I love Stoke City too! (Yeah, the other half isn't too keen on them either!)

The fact that you can dance to alot their music is really important to me and I love listening to Technique when i'm getting ready to go out.

Had you been in the Spirit shed at Oxegen on Saturday when the DJ played Blue Monday, you'd change that viewpoint
The ladies, or at least the ones in close proximity to me, seemed to love it
Russian girls like New Order, if they are aware of its existence. Try this forum: http://www.lovehate.ru/opinions.cgi/8143/1
One of the girls even says: "I love everything New Order has created. And Bernard Sumner is a real man, I can tell you! He's sexy."
Well my wife is more familiar with George Strait and reluctant to listen to New Order but now she has to! And she's getting into it, slowly. Some day we'll both attend a New Order show. ![]()

I do really like Joy Division but very much doubt I'd have gotten in to their music at all if I hadn't been listening to New Order. It took me ages to get used to Ian Curtis' vocal style but I think I just about have.
I'll add my two cents...
I'm a girl and I like them both. Can't really explain why, I just do.
Originally posted by DShamen Girls definitely like New Order... although not Blue Monday when it comes on, more of a lads tune!
Not necessarily; the only time I've ever been to an 80s night, I requested BM. BTW, the Confusion remix from Blade was not shit!
... and where was that 80's night shelley? ![]()
Now seen you around for a while, how things going? email me
Personally I was more of a JD than NO fan . However in past five years I have become more of NO(did like before then but more into JD) than JD fan, though this has maybe got something to do with the fact Im getting older now and sort of moving away from 'dark' music. Still love & always will love JD though.
So I would say both male & females are into NO & JD. Ive met plenty of males who dislike them but females who like them

I love NO and JD. Have a pic of Ian hanging on my desk, doing his hyped up dance. Have a screen saver of Ian, Barney and Morris. In other words, I adore them. My cellphone used to only ring with strictly NO tunes. And to make matters better or worse (depending on how you look at it)... My 5 year old daughter sings and dances to LWTUA almost daily, this morning she requested Temptation on the way to school(momma, play the green eyes, blue eyes song)... This makes her step daddy very happy indeed. She has created her own remixes in her little mind of these songs as well. Not only do birds dig them, but we give birth too little chickies that do as well... ![]()

lol Well, Porl Thompson, as a blond guy in a skirt, can pull off some good guitar solos. Then again, if I cut my hair short and sang out of tune in my underwear, I could pretend to be Barney.
