Hello and good morning everybody. FUCKING HELL!!!! If ever a rocking live performance had to be awarded, well i kow now wich one that should be! I am freshly at work now (08.00 AM),but i am still fucking buzzing out of my brain. The most energetic of all performances i saw!And the crowd was absolutely wonderful.Of course the German people had to make up for last summers performance, and they sure as hell did. And what about Arthur Baker! Starting of with Thieves like us!!A trippy mushroom based performance that was. Had a hell of a time , what about you, Jaap!! The same setlist as Paris (i think so , various substances are making it difficult to recall certain parts of the night) plus we had a bonus encore:Ruined in a day. Phew!Coffee, quick.
Cologne nov.16!!!

And a good morning to you too Marco. You are a man of little words or are you still speachless from last nights show! Their doesn't seem to be anybody awake anywhere! Where are you Orderfans!
Good morning everybody ;)
Yeah, great gig yesterday! Fantastic sound, great performance, but the Arthur Baker set was so f****** boring, sorry. Totally uninspiring...nice moment when the most of the audience put their tickets in the air, nearly "forcing" AB to stop dj-ing, harhar. My faves that evening "Transmission", "Ceremony", "60 miles an hour", "Your Silent Face" and a nice rendition of "Temptation".
GREAT GIG :D
I think Arthur Bakers performance was fucking great!!!! You germans do not know how to apreciate one of the worlds top mixers. He's been around since the early days of Detroit/Chicago house, so a little more respect please! And waving with your tickets realy made me puke:\puke: and please don't be so naive to think that this made him stop! My God , you lot have gotta learn much still.
Hey Mario :D
Even if Arthur Baker is a great producer or/and DJ, i think his performance was totally out of place! I've absolutely nothing against a good DJ, but a great name doesn't make a great performance! And it was much too looooooooooonnnnnnnnnggg...
But that's all a matter of taste...hope you don't mind... ;)
No offence Marco.
The reason of the way i reacted has probably got to do with the fact that i raced back to Holland, got in bed by 04.00 and was at work again at07.45.And still flying high on last night's substances.
You are right, we are entitled to our own opinion.
BUT ARTHUR RULED LAST NIGHT![]()

Waving with the tickets did not make Arthur Baker stop...in fact at one point he looked into the crowd, there was a big grin and then he played even louder (it was a 'bit' too long for my taste as well). My first New Order concert was absolutely fantastic, I couldn't believe how they rocked. My highlights were Crystal, Regret, True Faith, Temptation and LWTUA. Sound was pretty good as well. Barney had some good jokes, especially the one about the people who could (according to him) could not get in because it was to full, could come to him after the show and get there money back... if they could find him :) (buy the way, I was there at the end of the show and there was enough spae for people to get in, they chose to stay outside.
I can remember Barney saying:
"My voice tonight is smaller than your penises..."
:D
...and wasn't Arthur Baker pointing his middlefinger at the crowd when they were waving their tickets???
You are so right Coen!
Glad you enjoyed it so much.Lets hope Barney keeps his promise when he said at the end "see you in the near future".
By the way, where were you standing during the concert?
I was right upfront, wearing my '89 white reading tshirt. You might have spotted me going beserk all the time.![]()
![]()
I thought it was : 'my breath smells like your penis' :D I did not see AB putting up his middle finger, but I'm sure that in his mind he was!! Not a bad word about the crowd though. I was my first concert in Germany and they were much better than what you usually see in Holland. Agree, Mario?
The Show was great, the best I´ve ever seen!!! And Arthur Bakers Dj-Set was very good, waving tickets is pretty poor. Dance Music has influenced NO pretty much (and vice versa) and Arthur Baker did a lot for the band. I was a bit disappointes about the security afterwards. No After-Hour, no new order from tape, no comfortable drinking - we got kicked out! But still - this was the best gig ever! Great Performance on stage and from the audience!
Originally posted by Mario Herlaar I thought Barney said something like"my breath smells like your penis".
That was what he said. I think it was written on the CD-cover someone threw on stage before the encore.
You are right Coen, about both the audience and Barneys penis/breath remark. Did you see the people after the show selling the posters from the Brixton academy shows? There was a blond girl selling them too , so i went up to her and said (drunk and stoned as i was)"if i give you a nice kiss would you give me one of those posters". She bloody refused!!! Luckily i was early at the venue so i ripped off two posters from a gate close to the Palladium!!Hahaha.;)
Mario, I guess you weren't the only one jumping!! I was about 20 meters from the stage a bit on the right, on Hooky's side. Still I often couldn't see his bass cause he kept it so low ...His little solo encore after LWTUA was brilliant!
Well Coen that makes me standing about 20 meters infront of you also on Hookys side!He was raving wasn't he?
...but what did Arthur Baker contribute on Touched by the Hand of God ???
I saw him joining them onstage, but couldn't hear anything from him...what did he do? Some scratching or what ???

That's the spirit Mario!! You give the Dutch that good name that we have all over the world
By the way, did you catch Barney's remark at the end about 'the audience securing the band's future' or something like that??
Originally posted by Marco Pleil ...but what did Arthur Baker contribute on Touched by the Hand of God ???I saw him joining them onstage, but couldn't hear anything from him...what did he do? Some scratching or what ???
I think he came on stage to annoy the audience a bit further ![]()
Yeah, i thought he said , see you in the near future.
But then again i was on drugs.
That's maybe also why i haven't noticed Arhtur Baker on stage during touched by the hand of god.
What i did notice was the amount of nice girls at the gig.![]()

Marco, let's talk music, not football ;)

Hey Mario, she was cute. But she just wanted to sell those posters...:) But there a few blone cuties in the audience!!
That's an awfully bad remark Marco, which shows you. Goddamn i guess i am just jeaulous.Imagine a world cup without the best players in the world!! But i hope England is gonna kick some German ass overthere!! ENOUGH. I ONLY WANT NEW ORDER.
I expected about 90% men at a New Order concert. But it was probably more like 50/50. Always good for the atmosphere!
So where are all the English onliners at this fine moment in time!! Don't tell me you are still rotting in your beds!! Get out, and line on .
Didn't think NO had this much female fans... Good to know though.
I'm not the biggest fan of NO, bu last nights gig was one of the BEST gigs I have experienced ever..!!
Even caught one of Bernard's plectrums he threw in the audience. After the show I gave it to my friend just because he's THE biggest fan of our group. He almost fainted when I did the generous deed :D
I must say, respect for he dj guy! He wasn't much of a technical talent I think, but anyway enjoyed his set, quite some good records there. Indeed I find it poor to wave tickets to let him know to stop, that was kind of low from people..
Good concert, good show (sound at the last song was too fuzzy I think, but that's more the fault of the sound technicians). On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a massive 11 ;)
Yo Duco you're here to stay , man! You're right about the last song, ruined in a day. It was a bit fuzzy and wasn't sounding too good, but what the hell, we're the first lucky ones to get a new song added to their set!

Perhaps after this very succesfull tour which they obviously really enjoy, they will do some big European festivals next summer (for example Pinkpop, Werchter) and show everybody what a fucking great live band they are!!! One can only hope...
Would be great! I've seen them twice at Reading, and man did they rock that festival.Amazing laser/light show too. If there is one band that can do both small venues and big festivals, it is of course New Order.
Hello all!!! Back again from a nice day extra in cologne.
I just read the above discussion and I liked it very much.
About the gig: It was really FAAAAAAANTAAAAASTIC!!! A good friend of mine, who joined me, said to me after the gig that this was the best concert ever that he attended (he has been to U2 concerts, bob marley, etc, etc). And know what: he is right!!
Well Mario, I'll accept the nick: Jaap the setlistcatcher. It is lying here next to my computer and it is certainly contributing to the NEW ORDER feeling (as is the poster that I 'found', just as you did, ha ha!! it IS nice, and I saw a picture of it on this site!!! SUPER).
About the public: I do have to admit. The public were all super, I think some 20% of it were DUTCH. But indeed, the atmosphere was better than at most other gigs in Holland.
As regards Mario, he REALLY enjoyed himself... before the concert he was standing at the 6th ot 7th row... first tune and then.... mario was standing behind me! (2nd row it was Mario). And I WAS LUCKY (and early) again! Standing in the front row, looking right into the eyes of the Hooky.
The songs were perfect, they really were. BLUE MONDAY version was a great succes. The JD songs were appreciated by everyone (and sounding soooo beautiful).
I really had to laugh because of the public waving the tickets. Good one! Although it did not seem to influence Arthur Baker.... :;
And Barney apologised for starting too late.
Well, just to say: THIS GIG WAS PERFECT. Duration: 1 hour and 40/45 minutes. AND I LOVED IT!!!
Jim (JAAP)
About Barney's remarks: they caused a good laugh. He was @#%@ing enjoying himself!!
His wistling, his dances, so much fun.
And again he sung the alternative (or original?) true faith line: .... they're all taking drugs with me!

Sorry, Mario boy, but this exception of hearing 'Ruined in a day' live is not such an exception, actually: it was played at both Paris gigs last week, and in England early october too :)
Yep, Ruined in a day was not on the setlist, so not planned.
But, the liked the gig and the audience (because of all the Dutch! :D), so decided to play RIAD as an addition, afterall.
And I LIKED IT!
OK, nice to know.
I must admit, looking back at some fantastic New Order gigs, I regret that I did not go to Paris too! But, well, next time (?!?!) I will be there!
Hello hello, had some catching up to do concerning hours of sleep. I'm fresh now , not a trace of drugs in my body(yeah right)
I found myself walking in the center of my hometown Amersfoort last Saturday in a complete post New Order gig neuroses. It was hard to imagine that each and every individual i saw on the streets had absolutely no knowledge of the Fact that i had whitnessed a concert by the best band in the world!Poor ignorant people. And suddenly i felt lost, all i want is another NO cocert!!Got realy pissed that satdaynight!
Dutch Jim aka Setlistcatcher, I had my brother with me to Cologne and he said the same as your friend. That he never ever had seen such a good band/concert.![]()

I'm still having that neurosis!!! This concert is starting to sink in now, I have seen a few hundred conecrts in my life, and this one easily rates in the top 3!
Are you guys going to tune into the webcast in a few minutes? I wish i could have been there. I know how it feels to be riding a NewOrder live high. So much energy and emotion that lasts for days. How was the performance of Ruined? A few people have said that the previous performances of RIAD were pretty bad.
It was soundwise a poor performance of Ruined, but played with pleasure. I want to check out the webcast but it seems impossible for me to open bloody viva.tv.:headoff:
OOOOOOOOOOOOH the feeling is back again.
My post-New Order gig neurose is updated again, having seen our fantastic gig via VIVA.TV. I went to a friend with a very fast computer and a quick cable connection, and IT WAS SUPERFURRYFANTASTIC!!!!!!!

Hahaha , this really funny! I was also in Amersfoort last Saturday afternoon, and I had the same feeling. Walking around with a big smile on my face; re-enjoying the show. And I thought I was the only one down there :happytongue:

Fucking hell, nanne visser! Great to find someone so close to my place being a big NOfan!! Coincidently, i used to know a few people from Nijkerk, back in the roaring eighties, all of them new wavers and of course JD/NO fans. Maybe you even know them(if you are living there all of life). My best mate is called Marco van der Plas, used to live there. With him i went to legendary gigs like Reading 89,Cities in the park. I am getting slowly back to normal life. The past months i've been in a kind of feverish state of mind, ever since last summers Keulen gig. Well it is fucking amazing tosee them 3 times within four months! Maybe you also know guys like Wil Boerboom, Berton Kemp,Eddie, Andre Huting. All part of the big Nijkerk clan from those days.
Watching the Cologne gig, I'm intrigued by something. Before LWTUA, Barney jokes about the fact he will give their money back to some people up in the balcony (I think), saying it was disgusting.
Anyone knows what he's referring to ?
I am listening to the gig right now, too!!! it is great!! He is referring to several people that were apparently still outside and for some reason didn't come in.THere was enough space though!!
Can't believe it. Coming back for the encore, Barney says :
My breath smells like your penis. My name is Bernard and I'm capricorn. This song is Rock The Shack...
The text 'my breath smells as your penis', he said when he had taken a CD that was thrown on the stage. He (pretended to be reading or) read the text on the CD and then said: My breath smells as your penis.
small joke of course, and he liked it best himself (as he should do!), so he decided to make another joke, introducing himself and also mentioning that he is a capricorn.
In short: we had a hell of a good laugh!!
