There was a master of a THE FALL album recently on ebay and it went very high and the guy who got it found out it was the real thing!!
pretty mixed bag of stuff he's sold & has for sale too, thought there would be loads of master tapes if he has these, or at least some other interesting factory items, but no, not a sausage.
All well and good as a collectable, but who has the equipment to play it?
Then again, I have the Blue Monday and True Faith CDVs, so I can't talk!
Surely not the only production master tape - must just be a copy made to send to the record plant or something?

See the Thieves Like Us master tape has seven inch and twelve inch mixes on - that'd explain why the seven inch mix was never on 'The Best Of' if London didn't have it and this is the only remaining copy!
Seriously, I don't know much about getting records pressed up - presumably as with sending demos to a record company, you daren't send the only master in case it gets lost in transit. Surely a duplicate master is made and sent to the pressing plant? Then again, we are talking about Factory here, so that's probably the only bloody copy!
So much for a remastered CD of rarities!

you will see the number VG 2024 Z above FAC 23 - 12. VG 2024 Z is the catalogue number for the greek LWTUA 12" pressing. This item is obviously the master tape for the greek 12" im guessing the same for the TLU tape there are probably lots of these tapes around sent to each country to press from.
Easy. The reason the band don't have them is because when Factory went under someone chucked all the master tapes in a skip. Hooky went round with a car and apparently went rummaging through through the skips to salvage everything he could. Not everything was found.
That said, can't someone please take The Chap In Miami off Ebay? He spoils it for everyone, so much so I never bother bidding for anything related to NewOrder anymore on Ebay.

He probably uses a software that outbids the last bet at the very last minute, so it's not even fair ;)

I'm presuming that was a joke Nic... If not, then no - it would be illegal and an infringement of intellectual and property rights to remix and release anything from those tapes, without the prior written permission of London or New Order.

does anyone not get this? they are 2 track stereo masters (left and right channel), not the multitrack. in other words exactly what you already have but on a reel (except maybe for the 7" edits which are a bit rarer I think)
Even if they are legit (what the hell are they doing in GREECE ??? Remote vacations, perhaps?), what woould you do with these tapes??? Do you have the right machinery to play them, first?
And then, even if you do, what else?

They are Greek masters - not the original UK masters, and as such aren't worth anywhere near what DS has just forked out !
Always complaining about David, eh? The LWTUA one was a little bit steep, but I guess it's has more "collectible" value. I could've gone for TLU. From a collectors point of view, these tapes are almost priceless. Ever thought about what a lost master would be worth for a record label?

normal blokes like me/us just cant afford to bid on gems like the mastertapes.
lets hope that someday his collection will end up in a show like the saville show (the sultan show then normal gadjis like us can least go and have a look at the items that he's out bidded us on all these years!
he cant be short of money,so why doesnt he just give away items on his for sale list to new order collectors less fortunate than himself?
