I couldn't fit the entire second choice so it's below:
No, New Order has proven that they are a successful and profitable band that has lasted for over 20 years. And with the new album being in the later stages, it's smart to wait until after it's release to make any decisions.
I hate to be the voice of treason, but from a corporate, CEO, bling bling, profit viewpoint, unless this new album sells truckloads, that'll be the end of it all. At least New Order on a major label.
With an indie label, there's always hope!
Just let them go to a smaller label, play smaller shows to more dedicated audiences, and quietly fade away--as they're doing already.
I chose the first option, BUT not because they're a dead band, but because I reckon it will really better for them to sign a smaller indie label. 
I still believe that 9-11 is the reason behind that.. the band didn't tour in the east of america, so...
Crystal went to #1 on the dance chart, they even did a video for it... and nobody there thought of releasing Turn My Way on the US market, which was a huge mistake IMHO as this song was made for the US market.

That's true. It'd have perfectly matched both radio and tv (had they released its video).

I agree to an extent. After 911, Americans didn't really want to sing along to "We're like crystal, we break easy".
NO won't get dropped if Warners have any brains at all. How likely is that with a major, though? Still, even if it does happen, I'm sure there'll be a fair few indies willing to pick them up.

Americans might've stopped travelling after 911 (considering only 1 in 6 Americans had a passport pre-911 anyways, they're not actually renowned for their ability to spread their wings) but us Brits are made of much sterner stuff.
Remember, New order actually flew to Australia shortly after, so why would the US be such an issue?!

They didn't tour the US because nobody was putting up the big bucks to make it worth their while, and the only mistake with Turd My Way was writing the fucker in the first place. The only way it is suitable for the septic market is that septic have shit taste sometimes.
did anyone care about NO in the US in the first place?? stick them on Jay Leno see what happens...
Nah, they won't be dropped quite yet, give 'em another year or so till that happens. As for appearing on Leno, the same thing will happen to NO as what happened to Nick Cave a couple of years ago: absolutely nothing, though it was nice to see Blixa on TV looking bored.
Havent New Order completed their five album deal with London/Warner already anyway?
I thought that was all they were contracted to - seeing as three of those albums were "contractual obligations" in the form of compilations/retrospectives, I'd say they probably have closed that chapter. Perhaps they'll end up on Sanctuary Records (whose roster of artists includes practically every act that used to be signed to a major that had some sort of influence - such as Morrissey as of the present)? Who knows?

But wouldn't Best of and Rest of be #'s two and three? If so, Retro was a waste of time and money for most fans..
In a manner of speaking, yes, Best Of and Rest Of would have counted as two separate albums, but when the UK charts are taken into consideration, the two releases were actually counted as one compilation. Strange, don't you agree?
