NO
I hang about with a bunch of musicians who are into the more trad stuff. Few have heard of joy division/new order except of perhaps somebody will remember blue monday or talk about 'that video with people hitting each other'. Which is infinately annoying.
Only person i know who would have time for them is a great jazz pianist and one day when he was talking about Quincy Jones I said how he loved NO and got them play at Montreux. Well that's enough to convince him to at least give him a listen.
The rest of them though, pro musicians either touring, touring with top musicals, magazine editors, independant artists or just people who can cover stuff, they couldn't give a toss. But then their idea of greatness is a bloke/bird with acoustic guitar and a good voice. I've heard too much of that and just want to hear something with *balls* :)
I went to a school musical evening a few months ago (very painful it was at my old school and all that crap from 6th form seemed to dance around me) as my friend's son was playing and he's a good pianist. Anyway in this gig there was a couple of girls singing nirvana songs with some backing. I was sitting there thinking "that should be JD they're singing". still just wait until the two films are released.... :)
still, one band i think is growing at a good rate and has come on a long way in the last 6 months is My First Radio - http://www.myfirstradio.com/rcms/title/showTitle/2. I wish they lived near me, I'd go and see them rather than people covering the eagles :)
