I'm a long-term New Order fan but have not been a regular visitor to this site for a very long time, so need to catch up on some news.
Is there any chance of Gillian ever re-joining the band, for either live work or even just recordings, or has she now retired from the band for good? This is probably old news for most regulars, but I just had to ask. Personally I think it's a great loss to the world if Gillian is never involved again...

Corgan's busy with his solo stuff right now, and probably won't ever "tour" with New Order again.
As Shug said, nobody knows for sure. It's entirely possible that she might come back at some point. I hope she will, at least.
the impression that i get is that Gillian has pretty much retired in all aspects, and doesn't want to get back involved in the music biz. she seemed to rule out being involved with the new album... its hard to believe that the guys would exclude her if she just wanted to be "part-time", but you never know, Barney can be difficult
she doesn't seem to be all that comfortable on stage anyway, so she is probably not up to making cameo or special appearances at this late stage

I think that Gillian is one of those rare people in showbiz that has decided that being with family outweighs the fame of being a member of one the most influential bands still in existence today. Gillian,according to bio info on this site, is mum to 2 daughters, one of whom is suffering from some sort of degenerative disease of the muscles &/or the nervous system. I, being the dad to 2 autistic kids, empathise with both Gillian & Steve in having to fit their lifestyles & career path around raising a special-needs child & hold no grudge against Gillian deciding not to re-join NO.
I'm a bit in the same boat, youngest child (in a few months he won't be if all goes well with the wife's pregnancy) has been diagnosed with PDD/ASD/autism whatever-you-called it. That Gillian values family over fleeting things like fame shows the amount of class she and the rest of the band have. QED.

She makes tea for the lads in the studio and came on stage at Move to sing backing on WIM what more do ya want eh
Mores the point, what does she do on synth songs ? Trigger samples and provide a second guitar, that's the answer. I suspect her guitar playing is a bit under-rated, but the truth is that she left when they had to start plugging her into an amp as Barney couldn't read the chord patterns on the autocue. It's all pre-recorded, even the bum notes and the banter
Ummwhat does she do? She plays syynth quite a lot. Granted, they arent hard synth parts, but she did play a lot of New Orders most famous melodies...
Come to think of it im sure i read in an interview that she used to proof read Barneys lyrics and make suggestions...

I've just got round to putting my old video of New Order's 1984 appearance at the BBC (part of the Rock Around The Clock day) onto DVD. In doing so I've been doing stuff with the audio track, noise reduction etc. and listening on headphones.
Right at the start, before Richard Skinner starts his intro speech to camera, you can hear someone faintly in the background say "sequencer re-set!" followed by what sounds like Rob Gretton repeating: "sequencer re-set, Gillian!" as if to frighten the poor lass.
It doesn't work, she gives a great performance, except for one of the sequenced synths being at deafening volume when it comes in at the start of Temptation. 
Interesting footnote: Does anyone have a recording of the stereo FM simulcast of this show?
It's a shame that she might not be coming back. It would be nice to see the original 4 on stage again. Do you think that means Phil Cunningham is her permanent replacement?

It is a very skilled job entering floppy dicks into an emulator. no one can replace Gillian lol
