New Order/JoyDivision Live Concerts available

Don't know if this has been posted as I haven't been here for about 2 years but there's this website called Sharing The Groove which has a thread devoted to live NewOrder and JoyDivision concerts which have been made available thru the use of torrents.The story goes that a whole stack of live DAT tapes were found in one of the studios that New Order were working in and were auctioned off on Ebay.Before being forwarded to the eventual purchaser they were copied and passed around Manchester's bootlegging fraternity. The quality of the ones I've downloaded have been very good to excellent.You have to register to start downloading but it's free.Well worth a look. http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboard/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66638 ;)

These may sound like silly questions, but I'm having trouble with this.

1. How do you download the files? Everytime I try I finishes in 1 sec.

2. How do you play Torrent files?

3. Can you make a cd with this file? Or MP3?

The Happy One is the best person to answer your questions re: STG, but I'll give it a try.

You have to download a free software program (STG client?)that will utilize the torrent file you're downloading. The torrent file is used to download the actual data files (usually in .flac or .shn format).

Once you have the data files, you can then convert them to .wav files, with free software, that you can then convert to .wav files, which you can burn on to a CD.

I'm fairly new to STG, but its been rather easy to work with. And trust me, if I can figure it out, anyone can.

There's a good thread on STG in the technical section (I think) about getting started. Its worth a read.

To download the files, got to the "technobabble" "getting started" section of the STG forum and DL the neccessary software. Be aware that bit torrent downloads can be slow at times but they are resumeable.

To play the files you will need software that reads flac files. Foobar2000 is a free playeer for this. Do a search for this.

My Burnatonce burner automatically converts flac to wav files for audio cds. Once again, free at www.burnatonce.com

winamp can play flac files, you may need to get the flac dll to do this and put it in the plugins folder

ok, not posted here for a while, but you need to go to this site: http://bittornado.com/ and download the torrent client (there are many availible, I prefer this one). Download, run the installation, then when you go to Sharing the Groove or any torrent download sites you need to click on the torrent links, and the client you installed will automatically open and ask you where you want to download the files to (in this case its music files). The download speed depends on how many people are sharing (or seeding) these music files, its all too technical and I can't be bothered going into it, so go here (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/FAQ.html for some detailed info about bit-torrents (and welcome to my world! Kazaa is history!).

once you have downloaded the torrent, it might be mp3 format or it might be something else, like .shn or .flac - not to worry, there are many converters out there, do a web search and you'll find something to convert to .wav or .mp3 which can then be burned onto an audio cd and played in your stereo.
