A video for a group with this name on MTV2 last night was strangely reminiscent of the Crystal video; a coincidence?

Not a coincidence, apparently. According to MTV.com, they took their name from the Crystal video.
And they are fucking great.
I really like them. Not innovative or anything (like NewOrder :) ) just kick-ass tunes. they are from vegas, and are big NewOrder fans (as you may have guessed), sound very new order ish - I think
They have a good single, it is on the radio a lot here but I heard the rest of their album and was less than impressed. Haven't caught the vid for it.

well, golly, if they'd stop playing the latest 'jet' video for 5 minutes, maybe i'd have a chance to see this 'killers' thing.

I've seen the Killers quite a few times - initially because they were support to British Sea Power on a tour last year. They are a very entertaining band, and better live than on record, but I don't get the New Order comparison. I'd say more early Cure meets early Duran Duran, in a good way. Now, for a band wearning some New order influences very much on their sleeve, check out Client, who have a number of fans on this board. A song called 'Price of Love', a synth line ripped directly from Murder, a keyboard player who used to be in a band called 'Technique', etc - and a very fine thing they are too.
So another band inspired by New Order.
The only other act I know that took their name off New Order is Republica, too bad they have been a 1 hit wonder though....
On the other hand, Joy Division inspired a lot of bands that are quite popular... wonder why they state Joy Division but never state New Order though... I guess they want to seperate themselves from the more pop songs...
As far as I'm concerned the Crystal video would have been far better if it had been New Order who had come on statge to kick The Killers off the stage. Ie to signal the return of the Order.

Bands of the "moment" (i.e. not around 30 odd years like our favourite) are generally very far away from NewOrder - outkast - the wu tang clan - cornelius - erland oye - new radiohead -matthew herbert& danni sisciano ----
the killers are a total throwback to NewOrder, as I said, nothing innovative, just really good "kicking" tunes.
Similar to an old metal head liking "nu metal" - an exercise in spectacularity and re-branding it may be, but i like the tunes.
no thought processes, or art, just a nice print, to hang on your wall.

your holyness, surely a man who knows his postmodernism will appriciate this ??? Well, I've heard a few of their songs over on their website and I didn't get into them. They were kinda catchy and all, but nothing that really interested me. Sure, I like some of these new bands that are cashing in on the retro sound--specifically, The Faint--but most of the "new" bands out there just haven't caught my ears yet. Except for Xiu Xiu, but they're quite a bit more innovative and different sounding than all the rest. Just a matter of personal taste.
they've been playing "somebody told me" out here on the west coast for about 3-4 months now...I was wondering when a video would come out for it. IMO its a great pop song...and when I saw the video I realized where I had heard the name "the killers" before and started smiling...
the song kinda reminds me of blur more than NO tho...
Purely on the basis of sound, I think track 5 is actually better than track 4, but the video improves the song quite a bit. The singer (and apparently main writer) is an appealing show-off.
I bought the album, and I quite like it. The New Order influence is clear, but the songs stand on their own as great tunes.
i d/ld the album, it sounds like the bastard child of U2 and Oasis doing a bad New Order impression.
Deleted it.
The first four tracks are awesome (particularly the opener, "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine").
Track five let's you get your breath back a bit for the next onslaught.

Track 11 is pretty poor.
I shall be seeing them at Bumbershoot in Seattle on Sept. 6th, just before wandering over to partake of Built to Spill and THE PIXIES! Will report back on if they make a better impression on me in person.
By the way, any of you going to Bumbershoot? (I'm looking your way, Brian...come on, it's the PIXIES!!)
the killers are going to be in dallas tomorrow night i think. I know some people who are going, but I can't make it. anyone here going to that show tomorrow night?
I just saw the Killers play in Chicago at the House of Blues. They opened up for Morrissey....I ran out immediately and bought their album. Great band, but wouldn't call them Neworder-esque. I would agree that they have more of a Cure sound.
The lead singer had a strange setup. He is also the keyboardist and had a "tiered" keyboard stand with a small Korg, I think "Karma" keyboard and on top was an even smaller, Moog type board with only one or two octaves. He would occasionally hit some keys, but for the most part he would just sing. I thought they were great!!!

Any notable differences between live performances and studio versions?
Since I saw them live first...I couldn't compare their album with their performance too well; but they sounded pretty "right on" with their live performance....His keys were very loud live and didn't drown out the guitars at all....Very good band....
What is with the elitism....The Killers are a good group. Give them props!!!
