80's chicago house. & new order.

i am trying to put together a compilation of all the old chicago house classics from the late 80s,stuff like steve silk hurley et al. can anyone put me in the right direction?or is there anyone from the states lucky enough to still have some of the old stuff that they have put onto mp3s,if there is i would really appreciate your help. do other noolers also think that the chigcago house scene played an important part in new orders musical styles from the late eighties onwards onwards?

Mate - there's just been a compilation of classic tunes from the Chicago Trax label released ("20th Anniversary Collection") - that should get you a fair slab of the best stuff....

...dunno about influencing New Order, but me !!!... ...I got a 15-CD Box 'The History Of The House Sound Of Chicago' and - 'mygosh' - there's a lot of in it - nono, there's EVERYTHING in it !!!...

About 2 months ago I got a great great collection called "marshall jefferson, move your body , the evolution of chicago house", its 29tracks, 2cds, brilliant stuff. theres a track in there called "you saved my day" by cheryl lynn, and it is just amazing.

I have a triple cd set called Waxtrax Black Box containing loads of great tunes from all Waxtrax artists...

Well actually i have that on cdr but that limited set looks like a nice item to own

nuts, I have a ton of that old stuff but on vinyl. If there are certain things you want you can email me and I could get them in the computer and sent to you. As for Chi house affecting NO, I would think it would be the other way around really. At least early on but I really can not see a heavy influence on NO after Technique.

with the exception of a few songs on disc 3, thats all industrial music.

there are a dew places in chicago where you can get what your looking for. do a search for gramaphone records. they were the biggest house music record store in chicago back in the day.

and just dance records...

but your best bet id going to berlinchicago.com and find the email adress for dj greg haus. he is a huge new order fan and has been dj'ing in chicago since the late 80's. very nice and a great dj, he can definetly get you some good stuff. good luck!!!

Well I know that Kevin Saunderson (of Inner City fame) has said that New Order played a large part in the Detroit techno scene, and if you listen to some of the Inner City tracks from around '88 to '90 some of them are musically quite similar to New Order's more techno-styled tracks from that era. I guess that New Order influenced the Chicago house scene and then returned the compliment!

Saunderson did a wonderful job remixing Round & Round.
