Introduce Yerselves

I've been posting on and off here for a few months and I thought it was about time I said hello properly. You all seem wonderful people and bloody hell, it's an astounding site! I thought I knew all there is to know about New Order until I came here. Maybe there's a similar thread lost on the mud of the NOOL sea bed, but why not do it again - who the heck ARE you all? I'll go first...

I'm DC, aged 42 (yes, yes - an old bastard). I was into JD back in the day, saw them lots of times, got to know the band a bit etc etc. Have loved NO since the first tentative steps and whilst there's a ton of other music that I love equally as much, I always come back to NO and the mighty Factory Recds. I live and work in London now, having moved down here from the bleak Northern wastes at 18 to go to Uni. I play Keybds and guitar in 2 bands - see other forum for gig plugs! Finally, one of the following three facts about me is untrue a) I used to write for the NME b)I briefly played in a Factory Recds band and c) I am in 24HPP.

Now that I've "shared," I can safely say that I'm a 21-years-young university student living in rainy Bellingham, WA (about 100 miles north of Seattle), majoring in English-Creative Writing, and currently working a "soul-destroying" summer job that I hate (in fact, I'm at home right now because they told me to take an extra long lunch since I fucked up one too many times earlier :D ). I watch an ungodly amount of films in my spare time and I also write plays/fiction/short movies (which I occasionally work up the effort to film) in addition to reading some and making a little music when the idea strikes me (I may be playing a concert of all-NO/JD covers in September, will keep posted!). Oh, and I also like The Cure--so now the whole lot of you can ostracize me further. By the way, I'm a reformed punk rocker, so there's that against me also. I've never seen New Order, but I should've seen them in Vancouver back in 2001, instead opting not to since I'd already blown my financial wad going across state to see Depeche Mode (I know, I know ) at the Gorge (which is where the Order played about 5 days later). If only I'd known how seldom they toured the U.S., I would've gone. Anyway, I'm probably slightly bigger into Joy Division than New Order, but not much chance of a reunion tour there! Not much else to say at present.

Aged 37, and vocalist/lead guitarist for the band Digital. Currently writing songs for another project as well.

Veteran of far too many atrocity exhibitions stretching back 25 years from the wintriest of gardens to the Stretford End. Have inordinately large collection of live recordings and a very sad in-depth knowledge of what they played where and when. Slowly trying to forget this. I'm dirty-too years old. Married. One child (a 6 months old boy, hopefully a future Order fan). I've been a fan of the Order since 1989-1990, although I already liked to dance on their songs during my very first nights in clubs in the summer 1987, without knowing who they were or even the titles of these songs. It's only later that I discovered they were all from Substance: BM, BLT, TF...

It was not before 2001 and the Get Ready tour that I got the opportunity to see them on stage. I saw them twice in Paris. The first time, at the Olympia, was great. The audience started to dance from the very first note they played. The second time, at the Zenith, was crap. No vibes, the audience remained seated as if they were at the opera, the sound was terrible...

Hopefully they will tour again after the release of their new album, in 8 years.

Amazing how people see the same gig different ways. The Zenith was my 50th New Order gig, and one of the top ten I'd say. The sound improved greatly after Crystal. While it wasn't as manic down the front as a UK gig would be, it was still a pretty good atmosphere, and they were enjoying themselves, which always helps.

The fact that I was seated very far from the stage could explain my impression. There, everything sounded metallic and hollow, and much saturated too. I was unable to understand Barney singing and, worse, it often took much time to recognise the songs they played because of the distorsion. On the contrary, at the Olympia, I was at the balcony just above the stage. It was a very good location for both watching and listening pleasure.

I guess it's all down to position in the venue, which would indicate that they didn't have the right PA for the venue, or the venue's PA isn't any good. Where we were (front right, just inside the main bank of PA speakers), the sound was very clear after the first song, though there was a loose bass rumble at times. The CD Alex recorded of the show picks this up at times. The only place to stand at a gig really if you want to hear the songs clearly in centre-stage and about halfway back. People have this unfortunate habit of absorbing sound !

Funny how over the years they've been like this, one good one and one bad one in the same venue on consecutive nights, mixed performances on a mini-tour. Thinking back to the summer 86 series of dates - Newcastle was shite, as was Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee were great. Then a great Birmingham and Malvern followed by a shite Town & Country and Albert Hall. Even the same crowds on successive nights will produce different results...

I really didn't take to it at all. Mind you, it was my first day at University and I had travelled a long way to get there, and it was my third consecutive night with it following two cracking shows. Mind you, it was a lot better than the Albert Hall !

Im C and ive liked new order since i worked in a shit mainstream video rental/cd sales shop, in 2001, so the year was 2001, and as a result, GETREADY was on the system (other songs were : groove armada and the classic chillout album ) started listenin back through the best of, then republic, then substance, and eventually technique - my favourite. I like this site cause its informative (NO wise anyway) and more varied than the local leftist bitter-boards me and my friends frequent.

I like Peter Saville more than New Order, but was pleasantly surprised when i eventually listened to technique rather than just looked at it. i love 8vo and central station too.

Im studying mechanical engineering in , and desperately seeking a way out of life on the production line, but hope to qualify soon. i used to do a spot of rowing, and am training to return to it, i also like cycling ,but cant fix my racer. Im unemployed for the summer cause i diddnt expect to get my exams, but did, and then ceased to get up before midday, so i sketch the rest of the day,attempt to get an architectural portfolio together, and stay up late learning HTML/CSS, and photoshop, checking spam and posting here, usually 0nce a day ish - i usually come here when online.

and im into my anarcho-socialism. Ive help set up various leftist groups in and outside campus, and then seen others around pervert themselves in the persuit of shitty positions and a carreer in politics.

i hate dublin - espically the night life - generally only heading to 1 club a week, cause theres only 2 decent clubnights in dublin, both once a fortnight.

i like non hollywood films, and generally get to the film institute of ireland once a week, although i sometimes go to the multiplex for social reasons (all my friends hate the FII)

I was into situationism before i found factory , and like hearing Fac Facts on the mailing list. A real advantage of being politically active in college is that you get to hear about the likes of debord, and others not oft discussed in "dynamics and control systems" lectures.

I hope to get the hell out of ireland in 2 years time. a necessary dream. im not sure where to, but am sure what to. nice to hear all your stories.

its also an ambition to see New Order live a few times, and get in at least one great and one crap gig.

I like me the old-skool Indie Rock - some favorite bands for me include Sebadoh, Naked Raygun, Red House Painters, Smiths, Bob Mould/Husker Du, R.E.M., Low, any/all Steve Albini-related acts (now how's that for a possible producer for New Order?!?), most shoegaze bands, etc.

Discovered New Order in '86 when a friend lent me Low-Life (Brotherhood wasn't out yet). Been hooked ever since. Discovered JD independently a year or so later, when JD-Substance came out and it was recommended to me by another friend. It was only sometime after that I discovered, on my own, they were the same band basically.

Saw the Order only once, in '93 at their Chicago date (erm, really Tinley Park, a southern suburb). Wish I could have seen 'em before the '90s!

The wife only likes the NO hits unfortunately - was just playing '84 Studio 7, Barcelona in the car for her the other day and she wanted to know what that crap 80s stuff was I was listening to! Oh well, she can keep her Sloan and other power pop. At least I got her to accept having "Ceremony" on our wedding music compilation played at the reception!

Hi I've been obsessed with New Order since about 1986. For further information see a thread of mine "New Order and Me" of about 6 months or so ago, and see my profile.

When the Order last toured Oz in 2002 I was fortunate to catch them twice in Sydney. The Hordon Pavillion is a small indoor venue which holds about 5000, and at the Big Day out in a stadium infront of about 50 000 people. Both times the sound was great. This may however have something to do with the fact that at both gigs I was only 2 or 3 rows back right infront of the stage. So I can't judge what they sounded like somewhere in the back.

I'm Allan, warehouse manager for a restaurant supply company. Shug and Don may think I'm laid back, but I only act that way on vacation, gotta be a taskmaster to get the trains running on time and on schedule despite setbacks (weather, late trucks, missing product, sick drivers, etc).

Said "fuck you" to the old way when I heard the Ramones and Pistols in high school (I'm 42, not that old David :) ). Heard Joy Division in late 79, been a New Order fan from the beginning. I was one of about 4 people in a town of 30,000 who liked punk at the time, so it's been fun laughing at the attitudes of some of the residents here this long.

Used to work in a movie theater, 79-88, and saw tons of movies for free, which is why I'm burned out by the hollywood crap machine for the most part, and when I do go the cinema, it's the local independent one with the offbeat stuff that I'll patronize.

Pretty much hate all regular TV, especially any "reality" shows, so it's the usual suspects here as well : Simpsons, Seinfeld, MST3K, Twin Peaks, etc, and usually will watch History Channel or something like that.

Not that big of a fan of pro sports to pay tons of money for a bunch of spoiled children, I'll just watch from side and save myself the trouble. Will go to college and high school athletic events though, it's a bit more reasonable.

Way too many great and interesting people I've communicated with over the years I've been here, there's nothing I regret :)

i'm erika and i earn my way in this ridiculous world as a promotions manager for a natural food (health food, organic stuff, vits, etc) distribution company in florida. i was on my merry way to a life of excess and glamour after college until the nasty business of EARNING A LIVING and PAYING BILLS and SAVING FOR RETIREMENT mucked it all up. anyways, it's bearable for now and i haven't given up on those few remaining dreams.

Growing up in Florida didn't lend itself to a slew of friends that listened to NO or anything remotely good; but a couple of us found each other in high school and had a good time with what bands that tampa/orlando/jacksonville could manage to attract. In college, I finally got to emerse myself in all things music by working at the college radio station at FSU - dj, production, etc. the "excess and glamour" was the after college, a move to austin, tx and working at a radio station. Which ended abruptly when excess became, well, excessive.

so i'm stuck in the middle of a southern conservative town where i am neither. this site is good good thing.

Gudday CTB here, short for Candy the Bear, although I'm neither really called Candy, nor am I bear (although Mr Jarvis may beg to differ). 32 years old from Melbourne, Australia. I was a victim of my older brother's JD obsession, with enforced exposure to Still and Unknown Pleasures from the age of 9. Kinda stuck with me, and I've been hooked since. Said brother is now more interested in Jethro Tull than NO/JD. I managed to nearly OD on NO in one week in 2002, managing to see them both at the Big Day Out festival and the Metro club, with an Instore appearance at Gaslight Records squeezed in there as well. Great to actually meet these guys, albeit in a fairly cheesy scenario. Anyway, nice to meet you, DC - I'm quite envious of anyone who saw JD live, so nice one there. Cheers CTB

First heard the sound of the rocket when a friend returned my tape player in the summer of 83 or 84. He left a tape in it that recorded The Beach off of KUNI public radio, dj kinda enough to name artist and song. Purchased as much as I could get soon afterwards.

Formerly a spotty college student, earned my BA in Poli Sci but dropped out of grad school after acquiring a Mrs., I have a large family, run a business and possess a large collection of bicycles. I usually tour my state every July.

Spend my time with family or on my bike or work on my Jaguar. Play an online WWII aircraft game called Fighter Ace. Usually fly for Germany.

Music interests are the 80s alternative but noticed that I have been purchasing less and less as the years and go by and the quality goes downhill. 1985 the high water mark. 1989 definite decline. Fave bands from that era are in no particular order, NO, JD, Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, REM, DK, Love&Rockets, The Fall, Echo and Bunnymen, Xymox, Cure, Clash ect.

My name is Jim, I live in London I am 33 and in a Joy Division / New Order covers band called Digital. I play bass and occasionally do vocals. I got into them when I was a small teen at thirteen, missed the JD thing obviously but went retro and retraced them and discovered them by 17. Fantastic band, seen them about 15 times or so now. Always gives me a great buzz to watch them live.

I'm a 37 years old male(cue for the popular NOOL gag "I'm an old git, etc, etc, etc..."), born in the distant shores of Portugal, married for the second time with the lovely Emilia (come to think of it, the first time wasn't with her...:D), with a 3-and-a-half years old son called Pedro (my little hommage to Monsieur Peter Hook), working as an assistant DA (that's not the real name of my job, but you'll get the picture) in Oporto. "Met" New Order/Joy Division in the distant 1981, through a radio show, in a time when Ian had already passed away. I instantly fell in love with their sound and have been a fan ever since, even though I only bought my first New Order record (the amazing Low-life) in late 1985. Many years later, surfing the net, I found out this little site called NewOrderOnLine.com where I met millions of people even more addicted than me, and, go figure, I even had the honour of calling some of them my friends. Yes, Monsieurs Ricardo (aka "the amazing One Brain Man"), Alejo (aka "the guitar-hero from Las Pampas"), ShugZv (aka "ShugZv"), Humberto Vadillo (aka "the bookworm from Saragoza") , The Green Man from the USA and all the others I'm forgetting to mention, I'm talking about you!

I became a hardcore fan around 87. MTV's 120 minutes showed 'Confusion' as their cult classic one night, and about a week later 'True Faith' came out. Then and there I had to track down everything they had done.

My favorite album is either Brotherhood or Technique. My favorite song is Temptation, followed by Love Less.

I first heard JD back in 81 but didnt take much notice....and first heard NO when Blue Monday and it mildly caught my attention ( cuz I was a devoted NUMANOID then ).....until 1985 Lowlife LP landed in my hand, my life changed forever........

I first saw NO in 1987 ( twice, Enmore & Selinas ) and again in 2002. I saw THE AUSTRALIAN JOY DIVISION SHOW once in 1989 at Newcastle Cambridge Hotel but all I could remember was four balding dudes in black tee and blue jeans on stage

I now own approx 230 vinyls and 250 CDs of JD/NO & related stuffs....planning to have the largest JD/NO collection in the Newcastle town

Unfortunately my plan currently has been disrupted by my growing interest/blind obsession with this Glasgow outfit BELLE & SEBASTIAN lately ....and still in mourning for the departure of the ever so cute Isobel from the band

Claim to fame is getting Shug very drunk in manchester a few months ago and being one of the most opinionated people in the board. Fave new order songs are Sunrise, Primitive Notion and Procession. and altogether a mad bastard.

Hi, my name is D.V., I'm from New York, and I'm going to be a freshman at the School of Visual Arts in New York in the Fall of 2004. I've been listening to New Order since 2001, when my friend first let me listen to his copy of Substance 1987 and a showing of the Bizarre Love Triangle video on that MTV2 British-themed program subsequently followed.

I'm a big fan of most things synthesized, with an album collection filled with Kraftwerk, OMD, Section 25, Raymond Scott, Human League, Ladytron and Adult. records, among many, many other things.

I'm probably going to be the perpetual newbie on this board, regardless of how many postings I make.

Here, I'm bLuE oRdEr; in real life (i.e., the place I spend less time at), I'm Rick. Same age as the band. Degrees in Film & Television Production, Humanities with an emphasis in Ecological Studies, and something else, but can't remember. Currently working to graduate from law school by December, with a J.D. and a Certificate in Environmental Law.

Still single, although while I was on the phone with my best friend this morning, she said that "my type" just passed her by-- "borderline schizophrenic and recovering heroin addict." Maybe this time it will work!

My all-time favorite bands always seem to be, in no particular order, The Clash, The Ramones, The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode...and New Order.

I'm 37 with wife n child (13), first got into the boys in about 84 (football hooligan rather than spotty student type), fell out of love with them in the early 90's and then rekindled the love affair a couple of years ago when i discovered this site.

I've managed to indoctrinate my child with a love of NO (as the Finsbree posse will attest) , but as a quid pro quo i've had to suffer SCULB & Busted strutting their stuff.

i'm christy, but my students (i teach high school international relations and world history) call me ms. wood (or some imaginative expletive behind my back) and my university friends do, indeed, call me agent wood. long story.

i've lived here and there (boston, new york, london, scotland, thailand, israel), but i grew up in a small town in colorado not unlike south park. only the people in my town were weirder. i now teach and have no life in orlando, although i recently acquired digital cable, which made me happy.

i've been a fan of new order since 1987, and of JD since 1989. i'm also fond of blur, the chemical brothers, the strokes, marvin gaye, the verve, the clash, and earth, wind & fire, amongst others; i have a real soft spot for dolly parton, which surprises many people.

i love chocolate, good cinema, cats, the mountains, kurt vonnegut, and anything middle eastern or british (except for blood pudding and jim davidson). i despise spiders, deep water, mathematics, and dan rather; poor spelling makes me physically ill.

oh, and i'm not gay. but if i were i'd fancy angelina jolie or scarlett johanssen.

I'm an IT consultant (SAP) and my other musical faves are Pixies, Manics, Orbital and I was into the Madchester thingie with personal faves being New Fast Automatic Daffodils.

I teach too (but 5th grade), but I don't even want to think what they call me behind my back. I'm in that "being a witch mode at the beginning of the year" phase currently.

I'm Michelle or bunny. I go by bunny on message boards everywhere else, so it was logical it would carry over here. I'm 30 and I've been a fan of NO since 86/87 (it's all a blur, but it was 7th grade, I know that) thanks to my brother introducing me to them.

I listen to a variety of music, but it's not a passion of mine so I don't buy CD's like mad. I'm a huge film/movie fan. I enjoy graphic art for fun, drawing, photography, and reading... just to name a few things.

I'm a bit of a computer geek. Enough so that I have two. And my Palm is synced to both of them. In fact, my laptop and Palm are actually additional appendages.

I unfortunately have been raised here, and my views on how the Jews and Negroes control the World Bank while the Muslims are in league with Satan may offend some, but I'm just a product of my time.

I'm almost 25, but feel like I'm fifty. It's hard for me to relate to the kids of today: all talk of Debbie Gibson and Alf is lost on them. I work at a shitty grocery store, which may actually be a front for the international military-industrial-Carrot Top complex. Why else would the disgraced prop comic suddenly be on TV again, if not to distract us from the Bush Administration's war in Iraq?

I'm hoping to get off the ground as a writer, mining my personal traumas for profit and embarassment. If that fails, I always thought being a daredevil was a good fallback, or Harvard.

Hello my name is Jeff and I would like to take the time to say hello to all. I live in the states, Florida to be specific. I've been on the Order's trail since 1984. I started producing my own material at any early age and that led me to the path of becoming a DJ. I'm an old cuss now and work in the corporate world. I still produce and keep track of the order as best I can. This site is wonderful and I never knew it was here. I've done many searches on the factory and NO, but this site never came up until recently. I glad to have found this and I can see I'm in good company.

Florida was not the place to hear good imported music. We get a heavy dose of Classic Rock here. Don't get me wrong, it has it's place, but no diversity. Being a DJ back in the day, I had connections for the imports. Stumbled across a NO 12" and never looked back since. The music I started producing before I heard NO had the same feel of NO. That has always kept me close to the band.

Well, I hope to have many more interesting things to read in the future and it was a pleasure meeting all of you. Oh, does anyone know where I can get a copy of Substance Abuse 1994, they don't sell that here in the states?

I loved my stay in Nis. I also was fortunate enough to spend a week at Kopaonik. When I return to Serbia (someday), I am looking forward to seeing Belgrade.
