Thanks Ron (and some remix questions)

Cheers to Ron Kirsch for his generosity this last week - much appreciated (and will be duly rewarded), there was a mixture of stuff that I have already and a few that I didn't know existed. Although I'm not a fan of remixes in general, just a few quick questions regarding some specific NO remixes:

Blue Monday (Lapham extended edit) - is this a genuine remix? Sounds more like a mix of the first 6 minutes of the BM original with the last 3 minutes of The Beach tacked on at the end, most likely by using SoundForge. Anyone care to comment?

Vanishing Point (Trace mix/Submission mix) - are these legit, or of similar home-remixer origin? I thought only the 'Album mix' and the 'Making out mix' were the official versions of this one.

Sub-culture (Razormaid mix) - Not a fan of any of Razormaid's attempt at cut-and-paste 'remixes', but can anyone confirm that one Razormaid remix of this song is the same as the Record Mirror mix?

Spooky (New Order in heaven mix) - not a question, more a comment. This is the best this track has sounded IMHO.

Thanks again Ron and Justin, you are both legends. If any kindly soul can point me in the direction of an mp3 of the In Sessions version of Rock the Shack, I'll be forever grateful.

No worries CTB. I am not the orignator of this material. One of the UK Noolers supplied most of the material I gave you. So I can't really claim credit for it. Also, I can't answer qustions about the remixes. If you really want RTS, we can do that for you, it may take a while though until Justin & I catch up again.

I haven't heard it, but I can with 99% confidence answer no. A wild guess would be that the owner (Warren) of the Ceremony mailing-list has played around with CoolEdit...

Yes, I can confirm it. Back in the days I did a parallell-listening comparison and the RM mix is a fade-out edit of the Razormaid! v1.0 mix.

The fact that it says "Remix by John Robie" on the label is a big fat stinky lie...

Are these remixes worth hearing? IMHO about 1 in a 100 remixes offers anything above and beyond the original track, especially when not done by the artists themselves. Maybe these are different and I'm wrong? I've just never heard a decent NO remix. What are held to be the best ones?

Thanks for the comments, all DC, I'm with you on the remixes vs original line, but many folk here hold ther Fire Island remix of Regret in high esteem (although it's a bit nancy to me). I really like the Spooky remix as mentioned above, which destabilizes my theory that you can't polish a turd.

SlugZ, you mentioned the 60mph remix. Does anyone have a decent sounding mp3 of the Kahne mix of 60mph? The copy I have sounds like it was recorded on an Edison cylinder... CTB

As i probably sent these i can TELL you most are not OFFICIAL.The RM is nor ROCKET MICK ( ) but is a nice assumption and there are some BRILLIANT official remixes like FIRE ISLAND REGRET and i must admit i don't go along with the theory that the ORIGINAL is ALWAYS the best take.Most times YES...but sometimes a STADIUM or PERFECTO mix can be WONDERFUL!But each to their own.THE RECORD MIRROR remix is great and i thought my GOLDFISH WELLARD had done that.As for THE TASHA(my dog) remix of THE PERFECT PIT i think that you must admit... ALL THINGS ARE FOR GENUINE (not).Get my drift...thought not.And that is how it should be.........:D

IMHO the top-5 remixes (in no particular order):

• Crystal (lee coombs remix)
• RIAD (k-klass edit)
• TBTHOG (biff & memphis remix)
• Regret (sabres slow'n'low)

Well, almost agree with TLV but my personal top 5 NO remixes:

1. BLT - Shep Pettibone ( the mix that brought No to most commercial radio )
2. Regret - Fire Island ( what a fantastic chill-out choon with that lush piano solo - and I dont think it is 'nancy' at all...perhaps 'CANDY' sounds more nancy :D )
3. TBTHOG - Biff & Memphis ( great thumping beat & speed & urgency - more URGENT than any FOREIGNER's song )
4. Spooky - Stadium ( I though Garcia's mix is the best with its infectious electro beat, even though I have to agree that In Heaven mix comes close second, imho )
5. Crystal - Lee Coombs ( almost a different song in its own right...just like Fire Island's Regret )

Coming very close making this list is the TELL IT TO MY TRIANGLE - that BIZARRE fusion of BLT with Taylor Dayne's hit.

I quite like the Asto Dazed mix of Confusion,and the dare i say it,Howie B mix of Age Of Consent.
