There are so many great opening JD/NO songs, but I have to go with Age of Consent. Partly because Age of Consent is my all-time favorite New Order song, but it is also just a killer opening song to an album. To quote Mr. Pope in a previous post concerning Age of Consent on Power, Corruption & Lies, "it's just too bad that We all Stand has to follow it." :)

Disorder comes in as my second choice.

Crystal hits you like a bomb. One of the best NO songs ever. Powerful

Crystal is a very powerful song, and another nice opener.

pretty close so far....

This is difficult. Crystal is a great opener, as was Age of Consent and Disorder. Paradise was a steaming pile of recently crapped cowpat by comparison. The 363 vote goes to Regret though, a fabulous return.

"This one's a fast one for all you bollock brains!" Crystal & Regret maybe to follow.

Great poll question

Went for Disorder for the opening bass riff, but could have gone for AOC for the same reason.

On the other hand I've always liked Dreams Never End..... :D

How can you not have LWTUA on there?

Was close to choosing Regret, but with Brotherhood being my favourite album ;) I have to bestow the honour onto Paradise, it hits me with such energy and drive for an opening track!!

It just has to be AOC

PCL was the first New Order album I bought. 13 years of age and such taste:D

Every time I hear the opening strains of the guitar on it I am transported back to that time, one of THE best New Order tracks by a country fucking mile. Shame the miserable bastards haven't played it since 93:nonono:

Ole 586 has gone for Studio Albums, and LWTUA was not on a Studio album. Simple;)

I went with Regret, since it's the high point of that weak album. But AOC, Disorder, Crystal, or DNE would be other candidates.

Love Vigilantes. :clap::clap::clap:

AOC by far

Disorder just shades it from AOC. It's where it all began....

Age of consent is the one!

Great song! I've shivered when i heard it first time!

For JD, it has to be Disorder, quite an introduction to the band, and that's what I voted for. NO is AOC by a bit over Regret, I can remember hearing that on the radio for the first time, not knowing who it was, and going out to buy PC&L straighaway.

Disorder. JUST ahead of regret and paradise. Then again, thats tonight, and it could probably change tomorrow. Although just something about the sheer desperation of disorder...

Age of Consent for me, without a doubt. I instantly loved it and still do.

Disorder was my choice. I always felt that PCL should of opened with 5 8 6.

Crystal for me, though Regret comes a close second.

AoC.but this dopey twat played the other side first so i always think of YSF as the opener.Should always open with a rocker and AoC is definately that.

"Crystal" for me.;) "Age of Consent" is a great song but not to a great album (I know a lot of people love it, but I never could see that way, maybe because I was around back then).

"Love Vigilantes" is nice. And as for "Regret", I'm inexcusably tired of it, I don't know why...

what a tough one...........love vigilantes but only just :love2:

I won't reveal for how much time I once thought that 'Closer' opened with Heart And Soul... But hey, it was in the mid-eighties, and there was no side 1/2 indication anywhere on the vinyl (or maybe it was etched in the run-off groove, but I didn't check that out).

Now, I've gone for Disorder. That intro just sucks you into the special ambience of the album. Not to mention that opening line: "I've been waiting for a guy (I know, I know) to come and take me by the hand..."

Not a very difficult choice here, only Disorder and Age of Consent are strong openers imho. have voted for Disorder for reasons so nicely put by our little boy :D

Disorder, simply because it's so full of energy and puts you in the mood to hear more by the band. Second choice goes to Crystal, being an insanely good comeback track. After that, I would say Regret, but I prefer the New Order Mix, so probably Dreams Never End.

Crystal does kick ass but regret is the best opener after the period of inactivity before republic, Maybe I have forgotten the name and the address of everyone I have ever known, there is nothing I regret This was kind of a piss off to all who werre saying it was over.

Most of the above mentioned are classic openers to albums.

They are/have been classic openers to gigs as well.

If I had to pick one it would be AOC

Paradise and Fine Time crap

I was almost plumping for 'Crystal' but then I remembered the album version has that rancid extended intro with the woman wailing like a snatch.

I think 'Fine Time' is better than 'Blue Monday', personally.

bump for those who missed this thread.

I would have to say AOC.

I voted for "Dreams Never End" but after the opening it just dies.
