Almost impossible one to call this, but have a go!
what NewOrder track is/will REALLY stand the test of time?? Obviously amongst this forum their all pretty timeless but hypothetically which one would you want put on first in another 20years say to remind yourself of how great they were in the late 20th century...??
I'd have to say Temptation or Ceremony.

Suppose Ceremony and Temptation are the v.obvious ones that've stood the test of time. Classics, both of them. Amazing how fresh Transmission sounded at the recent gigs too. And even Atmosphere, though that's starting to grate on me a little, to be honest.
Well, has to be TEMPTATION....TEMPTATION....TEMPTATION... just don't TEMPT to say otherwise...
or maybe it's AGADOO...people are bound sing this for many generations to come when they're pissed drunk....

True! and i've just spotted Decades in the audio section of this site so i indeed stand corrected! Agree that Transmission sounded excellent when i heard it at Brixton. I also think Barney sings LWTUA very very well also.

Yes Tim...True Faith does sound as fresh today as it did 14 years ago...I might have to switch my vote here...but Temptation is still MY favorite!!!!!!!!
Ceremony, the original version, not the wishy washy rerecorded version. It still sends a shiver up my spine to this day.

Ceremony and Temptation are defo not 'Contendors', they're very much 'The Obvious'.
They're always the biggest 2 choons when the band play live. By a mile.
Of course it's Blue Monday...

That's why the band plays it at every show every time, because it's considered as their "Classic"... this is the most covered song also, and it's really timeless, as we can see, Orgy had a hit single with it again last year... and the band themselves had 2 major chart hits with the 1983 and the 1988 versions...
If you go on the Joy Division side, Love Will Tear Us Apart is the one, as you can see by the 20+ covers done of it...
Of course, I wished it wouldn't be Blue Monday, but it is!
When I put Temptation and Ceremony on the "contender" list, it was more because I really only discovered those two after getting past the songs on the obvious list, so I was going by that as far as general consumers of music (not diehard NO fans) would consider, though the next two lists were songs I felt most NO fans could agree on to a certain extent....

Putting it that way, I'd have thought BLT would be on your 'outsiders' list. A track from one of New Order's less successful albums, and a complete flop as a single.
Ceremony and Temptation both made John Peel's All Time Festive 50, both in the top 20, around the time of the Millenium. Says it all really.
I'm quite interested to see that not a soul mentioned rock the shack as an all time classic...

Pretty in Pink is a great movie Taboo #7. I think there may be a glimps of the shellshock 12" in the record shop scene. 3 tunes by new order in one movie. molly ringwold, duckie...i can't believe you don't like this movie...let me guess, you think SlowJam is the best song on Get Ready and you listen to RocktheShack to get pumped up for a night on the town right?
As for New Order classics to stand the test of time, why do we only have to pick one? If Peel selected both Ceremony and Temptation it proves neworder have multiple bonafide classics in their cannon. Add Blue Monday and BLT to the list and call it a day.
Blue Monday - despite the attempts to make it sound like a cheap and cheesey 80s hit by putting it on every single 80s compilation in existence.
Otherwise the obvious, Ceremony, Temptation, True Faith, Regret. I'd like to think Dream Attack as well.
