Moby covered Joy??

I was going through my Cd's last night and came across a Moby promo cd I caught at his concert in 1995. (I know, I know, I am ashamed to even admit) Anyway, on it is a cover of New Dawn Fades. After hearing it I also realized it is also on the movie "Heat" and the soundtrack. I never knew this. I am really not a fan of Moby and was a little disapointed to find this out, but he actually did a pretty good job of covering it. Anybody else heard this or anyone have any thoughts on Moby covering Joy?

Wasn't there a collaboration on New Dawn Fades, between Moby and New Order, on the 24 Hour Party People soundrack?

i really like that version, myself. i picked it up in '94 or '95 (maybe earlier?) in NYC on a promo CD from urban outfitters. he also did a live version on the 24HPP soundtrack with NO, billy corgan and john frusciante. people on this site have varying opinions about moby, and this subject comes up from time to time; i'm quite fond of him, actually.

moby is a good guy. i like his music. i like his politics.

i saw that live performance of new order/frusciante/corgan/moby at the area one tour in august 2001. my jaw dropped then, , and i'm still in awe it happened now.

Indeed, the studio version is much better than that live abomination on the 24pp soundtrack.

scored as in created a kick-ass, knock-you-over, brilliant song, i would say yes = 'next is the e.'

I agree. That Area:One show was the first time I saw Moby, and that little dude had a rocking show - at least during the more up-beat tracks. Gwen Stefani in No Doubt is also up there among the high-energizers (she keeps going and going and going... - sorry :D ) Of course, she's also good looking, so she wins.

did you catch his show last time he was here at the bronco bowl in 2002? Amazing show.

Yeah, I saw him when he was supporting the Animal Rights album. Good show.

His cover of New Dawn Fades is one of the very best JD covers I've heard. His music in general is alright.

there's a really good acoustic version on the play dvd. great cover in general. if i remeber he said something about joy division before kicking into the song on the dvd. i saw him once as well. great performer. i was kinda far back but i think at one point he was standing on the keyboards or was it his turn-tables?

As featured in the film Cool World. I agree good song.

You've got to give the people who made "Heat" credit: the Moby cover features in a sequence where Pacino chases De Niro along the LA freeways at night = "Unknown Pleasures" is, notoriously, the best album to listen to while driving around a city at night.

Also, "Heat" is about nothing if it's not about white male urban angst. And what were Joy Division about if not white male etc etc etc......

Hey Jason, I have the MOBY's PLAY DVD and you'll find the video of 'New Dawn Fades' performed live by Moby on Jools Holland in there....excellent cover and very touching when the bald one said how much that song meant to him when he was down ( or something like that...can't remember exact words )....check MOBY's PLAY DVD out, Jason.

For me it ranks with Nine Inch Nails' Dead Souls cover as one of the best done.

(Waiting for rocks thrown by people) I agree that the NIN version of Dead Souls is another one of the best covers. Gives the original a run for its money.

The actual concert I spoke of when I caught the CD was at the Lizard Lounge, as I used to live there. I missed the bronco show though.

That is the best scene in the movie and what better song to accopany it, your right.
