Get Loaded in the Park - Hooky No Show

Unless he DJ'd before 3pm, which seems unlikely from the roster of acts due to perform, Hooky didn't make it to the Happy Mondays reunion gig as had been advertised.

Various Manc has-beens came and went without any sign or mention of Mr P Hook.

Didn't take the edge off the day too much for the NOOLers in attendance, Al Jarvis, Ness and Greg, German Order Danny, ID, Wayne & Mike.

The Mondays were far better than I thought they were gonna be. Musically there were excellent. Then again, musically it wasn't really the Mondays at all, only drummer Gaz Whelan surviving from the original line up. Even Rowetta won't get on stage with Shaun anymore.

SWR sounded fine but was totally auto-cue dependant and was consequently rooted to the centre of the stage like a bag of coal. Even during the instrumental breaks he stood staring transfixed at the screen to make sure he came back in on time. After the opener Kinky Afro, Shaun claimed "at least we've got one right" but to be fair they got most right, although it's a shame the real Shaun Ryder has clearly gone missing [in action] forever.

Good crowd reaction to the set, right from the start. The unmistakable opening to Kinky Afro followed by 15,000 punters singing 'Son I'm thirty.... '

I think after this, the cash-strapped Ryder may be tempted out to do some more gigs even though he said this is a one-off. All depends exactly how loaded Shaun is after his day in the park.

Can anyone remember the exact setlist?

All in all, a good day out, though can't say the Mondays are anything special these days. Well, it's not really the Mondays now, is it?

What Wilson thought he was doing putting those four young black lads to the sword immediately before the Mondays came on just beggars belief though. How to totally misjudge the mood of the crowd - by throwing a teenage rap act to 'em after we'd just had Client, Arthur Baker and Graeme Park stirring it up for the past 2hrs. Those poor lads!

Surprised about some of these reviews. Can only think they were expecting something like 1989 all over again. Anyone whos seen Shaun DJ recently knows what kind of shape he's in and what we were likely to get. They exceeded my expectations and the crowd weren't exactly having a bad time.

The Wilson thing was hilarious. Wilson came on after Graeme Park DJ'd to intro his new band. These 4 black Manc scallies in trackies and base ball caps worn sideways came out shouting random noises into mic's. Awful. As Ness said to me at the time, 'know your audience'!!.

Can't help but think he's done this as some kinda perverse PR stunt. They'll certainly get more column inches than they've enjoyed before and if you believe there's no such thing as bad publicity, well..... They set their standards right at the off, first kid to speak shouted up 'Yo Clapton Common'. Dick.

Bit of a cunt Chant, but from what I've heard, Hooky never signed anything saying he was gonna be there. The promoters went ahead using his name without any clarification. Obviously this doesnae make you feel much better, but at least you'll know Hooky was not to blame;)
