Some time ago there was a post asking how the release of Sordide sentimentale was limited to such an odd number.
I mentioned at the time I had previously read an article on WW II and thought the number was related to the French Resistance, I'm fairly certain 1578 was mentioned then. That number seems to be cropping up again with the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Paris. In ten days "over 900 resistance and 580 civilians were killed". I've also found references to 1600 killed. Does anyone have a better handle on French history to give the official figure?
