Andy Fletcher's New Order wish

I was reading this interview with Andy Fletcher ( of Depeche Mode fame ) on his label Toast Hawaii's site and he mentioned New Order as well as the Beatles as groups he would have fantasized signing. Nice thought to put New Order in the same catagory as The Beatles. Here's the quote...

"Q: If you could have signed any other artist, past or present, to Toast Hawaii, who would it have been and why?

A: The Beatles? The Rolling Stones? Depeche Mode? The Cure? New Order? Will that do? "

I found out a few users sharing Client songs on Kazaa.

Try download "kazaa lite", not "kazaa". It's better.

Yeah, while I don't mind the quitar thing, it has always been the combination of Hooky's bass and Gillian's simple keyboard lines that I love the most. I hope they don't lose that completely. I wish they would get a perm keyboard played again, but I know they won't. They don't want to have to split things 4 ways anymore.

Andy Fletcher's held in high respect, as indeed are Martin Gore and Alan Wilder (if he's still in the band, can't remember), and some of their songs are undoubtedly good. You miss the point though Seb - it's not so much DM per se that are disliked, it is the desire of so many misinformed people to lump DM and The Cure in with New Order, when the bands have absolutely nothing whatsoever in common, besides being British and from similar eras. It's not like they sound similar, or have had similar careers. They haven't. I will never understand why America (and Canada !) has to categorise everything into fucking genres. Bob Mould was right.....File Under Easy Listening indeed.

I catagoraize em alphabetically. Otherwise I generally avoid putting groups in too specific genres. Youre right too, there really arent catagories for groups like NO or DM. They're just groups and I like them both. However they are very different.

Besides, I think we lost the whole point of the topic and that is a man as well regarded as Andrew Fletcher put NO in with The Beatles and his own group of 20 some years DM to have for his record label. I thought that was pretty cool. (btw, alan wilder left depeche mode in 1994-5 I believe. before the ultra album anyway )

Well, being from Canada (and now living in England) I can give you a very detailed expanation on why those bands are lumped into the same catagory but I won't...

I am horrified by some of the other bands as some of the UK fans list as their faves..I'll take DM & The Cure over the bloody Pixies anyday!!
