it says in the news section that this is the 6th worst placed single, but didn't subculture only make number 63 making 60mph the 7th worst?

No, seriously, how did State chart higher than BLT? Huntsman, Allen, Seb etc... you guys were buying new order records in the eighties...what happened? I have never heard State of the Nation or Shame.. at a club while i've heard BLT too many times to remember. Who bought all those State 12"s? Did they buy em for the sleeves? were you guys on a lot of drugs? Perhaps it turned out the way it did because State was a non-album track. Perhaps Sabotage should have been the single and the mixes of 60MPH could have been the b-sides...(did i hear this somewhere else?)
I wil telll u how it happened - as i've mentioned b4 in the 80's and early 90's NO refused point blank to do any promo work at all and thus so many of there top choons failed to attain there rightful place in the charts plus Factory never gave them the support needed as the Hac was draining every last cent from their coffers (whilst all the crappy bands who where prepared to go to the opening of an envelope and had record company support regulary got into the top 10)
I understand the bit about not getting the support from Factory and not doing any promotional work for the singles but why did State chart higher than BLT? Time of release, BLT was on Brotherhood and State wasn't, UK tour coincided with the State release? I just want to understand charts. They don't make sense to me and I can't believe so much interest exists in a system that is so flawed.

Despite its 20,000 limited pressing, it crashed straight in and out at number 49 in September 1989 - So Temptation and 60 MPH should be EIGHTH worst/lowest chart hit. Mind you, who's betting on the NEXT single's chart position? Here's mine - if it's"Turn My Way", then number 48 If its "Someone Like You" (heaven forbid) - number 50. "Close Range"? Fuck knows if that will even be a single. The Chemicals/NO collab? Well it could have gone Top 10, but not so sure about its chances of even denting the 20 now come to that.

I thought the reason why BLT was not successful at all was because the cover of the record looked a lot like the State of the Nation one. Then people just got confused and did not buy BLT because they thought it was the State of the Nation record... Did i explain myself properly? Not sure :\ohwell:

Like I said again and again elsewhere - this would indeed have been the case - after all NO did Later With Jools Holland that very weekend before the original release date of the single (22 Oct), so that would have been a timely promotional push. But London Records obviously had other ideas....the devious cunts who govern the release dates seemingly didn't want people to know they had a single coming out so they craftily shunted it to the back for another month, hoping that it will be buried in the pre Xmas big-name rush. And, of course, those fuckers succeeded. Yet again. Bloody hell, Seb - If only you KNEW the HALF of how fuckin' LIVID I am at that fucking record company's antics at repeatedly destroying New Order's chart career this year - what with the Get Ready vinyl fiasco, the Crystal 3x12"s and NOW, the 60MPH/SLY debacle. Fuckin Wankers.
Oh yeah - i'm also surprised that The Charlies newie failed to go even TOP 30 - when I was sure it would be a top 20 hit, above even that of the Order. But then one glance at the chart tells you all you need to know about the state of affairs, considering it's only 4 weeks to the end of the (my?) world anyway. Fuck em! Hey, that's a good explanation and BTW it could also be an appropriate explanation for 60mpH getting in at #29. People just thougt it is remix #3 and #4 of Crystal. ..... and buying these would be a hard option. anyone understands that?

I am one of the disloyal few who bought State on its release but not BLT.
Why ? Well, as has already been pointed out, BLT was on the album (and that version pisses on all the others) and State wasn't. Simple.
