Question about "Still"

Hi,

I'm currently working on the discography, and I'm also adding sound clips, so it must be accurate.

I'm currently adding "Still" by Joy Division, and well, I don't have any JD albums other than Substance, Permanent and Heart & Soul, since the last contains almost everything, I don't really need the others.

However, I'd love to have 2 confirmations.

"Glass" on still is indeed the same version as #2 on disc 1 of Heart & Soul (claimed to be from A Factory Sample, but according to another discography, it's the same)

"Walked In Line" on Still is indeed #15 from disc 3 of Heart & Soul. Seems to be the case according to another discography, but on Heart & Soul it's written as "previously unreleased", so I'm a bit confused.

Now, tracks 10 to 21, are they available elsewhere than Still? I know they are recorded live at the High Hall, Birmingham University, May 2, 1980, but that is not on Heart & Soul..

"Glass" is, indeed, the same track on 'Still' and 'H&S disc 1', being the version that originally appeared on FAC2.

"Walked In Line" is the same performance, but on 'H&S' you get the original, unfinished JD recording (from the UP sessions in April 1979), whereas the version on 'Still' contains guitar overdubs added by Bernard in 1981.

As for the live songs from Birmingham '80: the vinyl version of 'Still' contains all 11 songs (6 on side 3, 5 on side 4), although "Twenty-Four Hours" isn't mentioned on the cover (a precursor of the omni-present "mystery track" on cd-releases in the early nineties, if you like). On every CD release, "Twenty-Four Hours" has been omitted; while this does make sense on the 80-minute single disc version, it's a pity that it wasn't even included on the two-disc Japanese version from the late eighties. And no, those songs have never appeared anywhere else on disc.

I don't own every release either. I've only got a taped copy of "Movement" and don't intend buying the CD cos it's crap! And as for NO/JD bootlegs I own the grand total of zero.

You can't measure how much someone is into a band by how much of their recorded output they have. I own more TLC albums that I do Joy Division!

Indeed not. I have absolutely no intention of buying half the remixes etc. I've got all the albums and the single-only releases, that'll do me. I don't feel compelled to buy things just because they have the band's name on them. Refractured ? My arse.

I bought the damned thing today.

However, I can't say which copy I have! now that's funny.. usually it's easy to find, but seriously, this one didn't seem to be an import, but it seems to be a European release.

However, it's not!

And it says "Previously available as 520 017-2"

What's the politic of this in Europe? Is it the German release (there was a reissue in 1991 by Rough Trade, so I find it weird) or some other country release made in germany?

According to the "other site", this would be a Swiss release ?!?! Now I'm screwed ;)
