What do you think will become of New order once the Joy Division movie hits, everyone will be poseing as like, say kids in high school tend to look at joy division, as a cool thing then. Cause people wont listin to Joy Division unless someone cools likes it, unlike me lol. so id say once a popular kid likes them its gonna spread and people are gonna start danceing and actin like Ian, and all that crap, and when i say i liked them first, no one will give a crap, you know what i mean lol![]()

You're 16 and you like Joy Division? that's pretty cool mate. If and when the film comes out and it's a hit, you can introduce the music of JD to your friends. That will be your mission during your teenage years.
On a number of occasions I have had people tease the hell outta me for listening to certain stuff (groups and even entire genres). Then when it became popular I got retribution when I saw the very same stuff in their collections!
Make sure you get yours when the time comes. You'll have the inside track (pun intended). ![]()

I think a lot of people got into JD well before they turned 16, I didn't realise it was such cause for celebration. Besides, Spike told us all quite some time ago that when his friends found him listening to the delights of Ian Curtis, they called him "gay".
I felt sorry for the poor lad, until I woke up & realised that Spike is a mincing, no-spuds, lazy-typing, granny-snatching effeminite little fuckwit.
And I very much doubt that the forthcoming JD film will influence "the kids" anyway. You'll be lucky if it gets more than a limited theatre release in the United States.
AS I WAS SAYING, um I was into JD at 14 and New Order at 12, but though all this time if i ever say New Order or Blue monday, guess what i hear? Orgy and their version, everyone says its theirs, god i hate orgy lol but Donnie Darko gave some people a sight into JD and NO with LWTUA in the movie, Echo and B men got some coverage too

I think this movie is going to get people into JD/NO as much as 24 hour party people. I sincerely doubt that in the United States, where rap and trite pop music rule the charts, that a movie about Joy Division will be distributed to most major theaters. Most people didn't even hear about 24HrPP when it came out 2 years ago, let alone become influenced to buy the music by the bands featured in the movie.

But we can always hope.
Yep, nada. First of all New Order is too lazy to be bothered with promoting themselves. That would be what other bands do and New Order is about doing what other bands do not do.
Secondly, the bling-bling rap/shithop music infests the soul of music in the USA. That and crap rock.

I won't lie here. 24 Hour Party People got me into Joy Division. It was the first chance I really had to listen to it. I was already into New Order a bit before that film, but I only knew their classic hits.
Since the film I have got into clubbing so now Joy Divison/New Order music is all around me, if you go into a Manchester club there is a big chance you will hear BLT or LWTUA.
I think the film may influence people when they find out how good their music is. But then I guess you have to be into JD to want to see the film in the first place.

Hmmm. It's as much about the Mondays as it is JD, surely, and more about AHW than any band?
I let my friend listen to some of my Joy Division and he wants to burn all my cds now. Also prompted him to watch 24HPP. One converted. ![]()
i made my friend rob watch 24hpp and he loved it and now he loves ian curtis and joy division, he always tries to dance like ian...its sad![]()
Congratulations Spike. Not on the 300 posts but on successfully making a post with no spellling mishtucks. Won't mention the grammar and punctuation though !

Erm....Is this not what they call internet grooming?!! Meeting 16 year old lads in Dunkin Donuts? Shame on you Barnsey!

Hey, hey, HEY! Less of that, if you don't mind. I can't win, if I'm too nasty people are offended, so if I act nice, people think I'm a steaming great nonce. You bastards! :(

It's true, Spike, I will be a poor bastard come November. Right after giving my parents-in-law $600 when we arrive at their house, I then have to wait around while my work permit application is sorted, then, as soon as I do get a job, a large chunk of my wages has to go in the bank to put towards a car, some has to go towards paying board`n lodgings to my wife's mom & dad, & the rest will be spent on the usual things, food, clothes for my daughter etc etc etc.
Still, it'll be a hundred times better life than the one I've got now, that's for sure. ![]()
When I've been in my job for a fair while, bought a car, started some savings for me & the missus, started some savings for my daughter Emily, paid a ton of housekeeping to my mother-in-law, possibly even put down a deposit for a place of our own... THEN you can expect a donut & a small coffee. Until then, get yer hand in your pocket, boy... & not for that reason, either! ![]()

Can't a new immigrant scrounge some food & drink off someone without you putting 2+2 together & coming up with latent homosexual? What a mean-spirited world we now live in!

It was just the culmination of the things... you running from the UK, meeting up with some 16 year old you "met on the net"... sounds like the typical story :D
Hardly "typical" given that I've mentioned my wife & daughter about a million times, you big twat.
I actually think Spike would make a good friend for my brother-in-law Ray. They're both of a similar age, & seem to speak the same way (Granted, I haven't heard Spike talk, but I'm guessing he speaks how he types...). Ray's had a few problems of late, which I don't want to go into over the `net, thought having a mutual friend locally would cheer him up.
me speakin and the way i type are two different things entirely, and it would be cool to chill with ur uh....ur said brother in law or something, thats if he likes new order, or the 80's lol
and depends where he is lol![]()
No, he's not into NewOrder or the `80's, I doubt he even knows who NO are. Hopefully you could teach him about good music, get him weaned off that Eminem & 50 Cent crap. Doubt he'd take any notice of me if I tried tuning him into the delights of Factory Records, & besides, I don't own any NO records anymore anyway!
You bloody know where he is Spike, in Sussex County, same as he's always been. Use yer loaf, boy.
If your brother-in-law speaks the way Spike types, he must be using the "word" "lol" in each and every sentence. Lol. God save us all.
"LOL" has to be the most over-used, irritating "word" (if you can call it that) in the history of written language. Smacks of laziness, a lack of intelligence & no imagination. Sorry Spike, but seeing people use "LOL" when they haven't a clue what else to say/type has got right up my nostrils since I first went online in 2000...

well, these past 3 pages were certainly interesting to read. i sort of stumbled upon new order when i was 13, and found JD soon after. i'm 19 now. but having missed out on all that history and stuff, i didn't get much out of 24HPP...probably more so because i live in the US. ::throws radio in the toilet::
yea new order is like nothin big in Jersey, only song i heard by them was BLT about a month ago, and it was by luck![]()

When you here stuff like NO in a supermarket...it can mean two things:
- Things are looking up for the world.
or...
- It's the END of the world.
I'm gonna hafta ponder that for a while. But at least it's a good bit of NO spotting Tristan!! ![]()

Says it all. Laurence.
I don't want New Order to be popular, I want them all mine. Mine mine mine mine and noone else's. They've got enough money now they don't have to sell records to other people. All mine. No advertising no nothing. They didn't advertise when I got to like them I hope they won't advertise now. And the movie, I hope it won't be like xxx La Bamba. I watched horse riding yesterday, one of them was called Robert Smith. I'd ban it straight away. Disgusting. Mine mine mine.
They have be at least more successful than their solo projects if we want them to keep going.
That guy needs to calm down, but New Order needs to make a come back in the US! people are starting to doubt a come back in Jersey:(

To be perfectly honest, this is the most amusing and entertaining thread I have read on NOOL in the longest of times! Thanks Spike and James for your lovely banter.

My roommate and I were shopping Albertsons one day and suddenly 'Enjoy the Silence' started playing and we immediately froze and looked at each other, unsure of whether that spoke badly of DM to be lumped in with the rest of the Muzak.
haha! i heard enjoy the silence their too, once, i was like haha Depeche mode! lol then my mom is like aww i loved them![]()
New Order may achieve some popularity if they'd perform at Jay Leno's. 100 millions of viewers - can't just at least 100 thousand of those be fascinated with the band and there you go - people would rush attacking their local music shops!
A very interesting thread indeed. is it a jsb & spike thread? Anyway back to business.
If the jd film is going to be done in the us then surely it will get promoted to death as is every other film that comes out of the states. If it is going to be BIG bidget then the promotion will be even bigger and more monotonous. This over exposure could be a good thing,or it could be bad. yes jd/no will get plenty of exposure and it may be the case that folks get interested in the music and go out and buy the entire back catalog and stuff like that etc BUT, if the film is'nt made correctly and doesn't stick to factual events then it could perhaps have a negative effect on new order.
am i right or am i
?
