Well...I think they were big fun at the time they were done, and when taken in that context (The timeframe involved) I think they were great ideas and they were played at the right time.
Now as to whether or not they were 'Good' covers...well thet is vert debatable. BUT!!! They obviously had fun doing them at the time so I would say : ![]()
I'd like to see them do covers of songs by 'New Order' instead of playing the same shite every time. Get of your arses and rehearse some of the other stuff you have written you lazy bastards.![]()
their covers are awful. play new originals, or play old originals, just not covers.
also, covering new order or joy division can get tiresome too. be appreciative, but inventive and fresh is the way to go.
I'm quite partial to the live Sister Ray from the Oakland 85 show, my first NO gig. Coming on the heels of a great set greeted with a lot of indifference, I can distinctly remember NO blasting away to their hearts content, and if the audience didn't really care for that one, then they could really go fuck themselves.
The other covers I like as well, it's a treat to hear one once in a while, but as Hooky said a long time ago, they had to write their own songs cause they weren't able to do a decent cover of anything.
What was that Oakland gig actually like, Allan? It sounds to me like they didn't go down that well but decided to do an encore anyway just to stick two fingers up at the crowd who hadn't been impressed!

ooops... you know what i mean... i mean other bands covering new order/joy division or any band covering another band. btw, frente's BLT is an awful cover, as is Orgy's BM.

It's OK, it happens!
NO doing them on occation is a good, healthy thing me thinks. I'd like to hear them do some Britany Spears ir NSYNC. That would be very specially!!
Barney:
"WHOOOOP! Iiiiiiiiiiiii did it!!! (long pause) AGAIN!!!!!! WHAAAAAOOOOOWW!!!"

Sadly Tim, the tale of the tape doesn't lie. It wasn't like the audience didn't applaud, but they were quite far from being enthusiastic. Of course, this totally baffled me, seeing as how I eagerly made the 13 hour overnight drive, on a near-pilgrammage, because I knew that NO didn't tour very much, I swear that one reason I went cause I didn't know if I'd ever get the chance again.
I didn't hear all of the onstage banter at the time, to be honest, but body language and tone of voice clearly told the story that the band were far from happy being there. I do remember clearly though, Barney saying "You probably don't deserve this" and me thinking out loud "Damn right". At least me and my buddy were quite enthusiastic in our support though.

The thing about NO covering JD is that they wrote the bloody songs, so why shouldn't they? The only problem with that is Barney's voice is nothing compared to Ian's.

The leaves that are on the TRUE FAITH REMIX have been ENLARGED so the LARGE COVERie two 12 inch type covers that a GATEFOLD SUBSTANCE has make it really smart on the eye.The cover has also got a number making mine number 50 of 1000(i think!) and has the words on the back...........
FACT 220 ALBUM ONE -COUNCH SHELL RED
ALBUM TWO-PEONY BLUE
NOT FOR SALE UNLESS DESPERATE
Needless to say although i have been desperate i have NEVER sold.
BTW i have just noticed on the FRONT COVER which has a BLUE shell on it the words "I USED TO THINK THAT THE DAY WOULD NEVER COME" at the top and "THE GATEFOLD SUBSTANCE NEW ORDERLIMITED EDITION OF 1000 COPIES " at the bottom. The back cover has the RED shell on it.
Should do a scan etc but can't be bothered since installing the new software/hardware the SCANNER is playing up!
REGARDS Rocket Mick ![]()
