I would love to hear a story or two from anyone who went to the Hacienda, espeically in its heyday. Did the real experience live up to the myth? Would also like to hear from Americans - how was it different from what we have here in the states?
Ok, since we don't have a British to American dictionary, would someone explane this to me. On NewOrder:Story (video) Barney talks about living in a council flat while pouring 10,000 pounds into the Hacienda. What the heck is a council flat?

I'm not too sure but I think a council flat is like subsidized housing, like a housing project here in the US.
I managed to find some pics of the inside of the club but they were just before it was auctioned off so it would be great to see some pics from it's heyday, it looks really cool.
In UK a council flat is housing which is owned by the local government of the area in which you live, and on which a fee (called rent) is paid to the local governement (council) for living in the place. They are usually low quality housing and in poorer areas, such as Salford or Moss Side (both places in Manchester predominantly full of council owned properties). I only put these 2 places on as Barney is from Salford, and he sings about Moss Side on a couple of New Order/Electronic tunes.
Oh and yes, the Hacienda lived upto all the hype, most of the time

I went to the Hacienda a few times as a student (Early 90's), and on at least two ocassions I was carried home and dont remember leaving.......so yes it was rather good! hee hee!
I never spotted any of New Order there which is probably a relief, because the state I was in, its highly likely I would have made a right twat of myself! :)
