Are there any other site members in Perth Australia?
Regardless, the news is that the New Order gig (ie the Big Day Out) in Perth on Feb 3 2002 has changed from Bassendean Oval to:
Claremont Showgrounds
Same date, better venue IMO.

Out of interest, what are the BDO's like? 30,000 people in a field similar to a Reading Festival or something (only hotter?).
Assume the Order would only be 3rd on the bill, below the Prodigy and Garbage?!
Hard to compare with anything, Allen, as I haven't been to Reading etc. 30,000 smelly youths in 35' heat is pretty close to the mark, all wearing Regurgitator and Beaverloop t-shirts or the like. If NO are on before the Pridigy, I'd be surprised. Still planning on coming over?

I have my 3-day medal of honour from Reading 98 and I'd say that the vibe is similar at the Big Day Out. I guess the differences would be that the BDO is a one-day affair, is funkin hot and seems a little more 'yoof-oriented'- average punter ages are probably lower..
Perhaps this gives the BDO a little more energy, but the downside is that if you're a more experienced campaigner such as myself (but far from the 40-something league, Jarves) then the kids can piss you off with their shit taste in bands, etc. Get me the hell out of there before silverchair hit the stage.
I think you mentioned a while back that you thought Aussie audiences of NewOrder would be mainly older fans gagging for any nostalgic 80s magic... I reckon there will be a little of this action; a little of old school diehardism like myself, my old mates, Candy the Dog, etc; but the youth radio here has a long history of playing NO & JD and the audience is fairly intelligent.. Plus they've been flogging Crystal and GR to death.. I'm hoping for a strong turnout at most shows.
It's a guessing game as to the line-up for the day.. I'm thinking Garbage may have the last laugh (eg Reading98), with NO, Prodigy and silverchair the previous 3. I hope they don't try something inane like put NO in the dance tent.. The Chemicals packed it out two years ago but Primal Scream were crap in there.. We want late-bill main stage action.
How's the missus taking to the idea of an Oz holiday Jarves? We have a new celebrity croc-hunter show that she'll love.
Candy how did you bolt to 129 so quickly? It was just a few days ago that you brought up the ton.. Huntsmanesque performance.
Well, I've been very bored, Depthy. Plus my boss has been away. Fossils can be very boring, you know.
And why aren't you coming to the Melbourne BDO ?

Candy the Curator, what's with you and all your fossils.. It sounds like you're stuck between a rock and a.. and another rock. With such devotion to fossils I'd have thought Pink Floyd or perhaps the Stones would have been more your thing.
[Hopelessly off topic] Raise the black flag! What happened to Australian sport in the last week? Bundled out of the World Cup, Mundine gets KO'ed, we lose the Davis Cup Final to le frogs and now the ultimate indignity- on the verge of a series loss to the Kiwis in the cricket..
BTW I'd have lurved to have made the Melbourne BDO but the budget won't quite stretch that far.. Good chance I'll be living there next year so you'd better clean out all of the NO collectibles from the record stores..
Jarvis, I sincerely apologise about the 40-somethin' jibe.. A raw nerve tapped? I will email you with details of Aus postehaste!
