Not easy to picture Mr Morris singing from behind the drums but when New Order were rotating the vocals to find the best fit circa 81, apparently Hooky felt Steve was the best singer. I've only heard him on the Ceremony demo, which you can barely make out. Was this another of their piss-takes?

How can we judge this. We only have a couple of songs to go on. It is reported that they think/thought that Stece had the best voice of them all.

What else apart from Ceremony does Steve sing on?

I don't see why people think Steve is such a good singer. If he was, why didn't he sing on any of the Other Two tracks? Yes, Barney's voice was poor at first, but by the late '80s (TBTHOG, True Faith, Technique), his voice matured to a more popstar-like quality.

Just to clarify, I didn't mean to say Steve is the best singer. I was just pondering the possibility because Hooky said he felt Steve's voice was the best.

The Western Works version of "Truth".

I guess for me it's noticeable that all members of NO had at least some vocal qualities in them that Ian had too. Barney could (and probably still can) do that cold, passive expression thing that Ian sometimes did. Hooky has the lowest voice of the band. And when I listen to the Morris-sung "Truth" the crooner qualities in Steve's voice are pretty obvious to me. Perhaps Hooky thought that Steve's voice would be appropriate for material like "Atmosphere" or "LWTUA", were New Order going to do something that's related to those two JD tracks.

Of course, I didn't mention Gillian yet. Well, maybe Ian could've sounded feminine after someone having kicked his nuts in. :evil4:
