An incisive cultural commentator.A design superstar. An international playboy with a London Mayfair apartment to match.A consistently unconventional, nomadic intellectual.A renaissance man with bad work habits.Descriptions like these precede Peter Saville like clouds before a storm. ALICE Twemlow

If you love those 12 inch covers and CD covers by SAVILLE and you are wanting a great XMAS pressie then ask for this.I didn't buy this at the time i went to the exhibition but only recently travelled back to the URBIS Centre in MANCHESTER to purchase this book.It is very hard to actually read this because one just MARVELS at each picture of ones favourite NEW ORDER/JOY DIVISION (and in my case GAY DAD) covers.A quality book which is just bloody marvellous.I have had many music books in my time but nothing has grabbed my attention as much as this book.I know it is different in context but it is just awesome. The group would never have made such an impact in my life without these quality covers. The whole FACTORY/JOY DIVISION/NEW ORDER/WILSON story is tremendous but with SAVILLE in the mix it reached HIGHER plains for me.ART FOR ARTS SAKE........... Rocket Mick Picture This.

Saville gave us some class artwork alright, the packaging was an extra bonus to go with the bands extraordinary music. We were pretty lucky really. Lets hope he gets back on form after 2001's blip. I will definitely get this book if I can find it:nod:

He was just the marketing arm of Factory, I prefer the music doing the talking, hence the reason I prefer the live stuff.

I have this book, and it is fantastic. Ive read it (there aren’t a lot of words) around 3 times by browsing (never sat down and read it cover to cover).

It’s a fantastic book, and the images are really breathtaking. It is important to note that he is an “Art Director” and not a graphic designer. Saville was a lot more than the “marketing wing” of factory. Whatever about creating fantastic music & packaging, Factory didn’t do any “marketing” as such that I know of. The factory visual identity & packaging on the other hand was certainly a large part Saville.

I got into NewOrder initially because of the songs, but my appreciation of their Covers (along with other factors) also played a significant part.

For NewOrder fans, the book is a treat. There is an opportunity to see other Saville works (check out his work for OMD), and some nice essays. Well worth a go.

Also: I for one happen to love the "Get Ready" cover. :thumb:

As far as I'm concerned, Joy Division & New Order releases could have been produced in sleeves made of pig shit and I'd still have bought them.

The fact that peter Saville's sleeves were so good was just the cherry on top...

Are you lot on about 'Designer By Peter Saville', or another book that's recently been published?

Saville is to NO what Jonathon Ive is to Apple, When the best of NO album was released, I was walking past HMV and just saw a poster with no writing onit, I instantly knew it was NO, no other designer could do that.

Sooo....what's the book title? No disrespect Rocky Micky but your post read like a Jon Savage linear note write up on crack! Either that or it is still WAAAAAAAAY too early in the morning for me to be posting.

If it is 'Designed By Peter Saville' then I have it, but if you are refering to something else then I am obviously at a loss.

I need more coffee now.
