ok its 1:53 im smashed on vodka and i've got the stockholm monstors on headphones

what do i see on the (muted) telly in the corner? A video that looks a fuck load like Crystal. A kind of light wall thing only a lot smaller. and the rest of it sucks... watch on, it's the killers... yes the bastard child of U2 and Oasis doing a NO impression has even ripped off their fucking video.

i call for assignation! how dare they sully the name with this derivative crap?

eeeeh? Well The Killers PICKED their name FROM the Crystal video, it's an homage to New Order which is one of their source of inspiration.

You don't like Somebody Told Me? At least we know they really took it out of Crystal because the video DOES look like a follow-up!

I love the Killers--especially the songs with a lot of synth. Oh, and "Mr. Brightside". They should open for NO!

i've seen em three times myself, very good live band, the first time i saw em was just a random gig that we went to in june at the academy 3 in manchester,i kept sayin they sounded like new order on the night but my mates were having none of it,i always say things like that apparently! i had a look on their website after it and there's an interview somewhere with them saying they got their name from the crystal video, they always namecheck tho order in interviews too so at least they're up front about their influancies

Love the Killers, they're on constant play for me. I had it turned up so loud in my car the other day, i thought the speakers were going to blow.

They remind me of Duran Duran, if you ask me. Lead singer sounds just like Simon Lebon.

There is a great club remix of Somebody Told Me. I heard it on the radio once, but I'm having the hardest time getting a hold of. It's called the Josh Harris Club Mix, not the Josh Harris radio dub. If someone has, please drop me a line. :thumb:

Bought the album on the strength of "All These Things..." single, played it a few times and it just seemed to dip in quality after about track 6. Just my opinion, but not too impressed.

Yep , Hot Fuss deffo dips after track 6.The first 5 tracks are OK.The band wont last.Soon as something else comes along theyll die off.Sorry, that`s (pop) life.

The who? Whatever then. Hey them Killers peoples whozever they freaking are played up in me hometown of Sacramento, California in a little rat hole club just a short bit ago.

I had no desire to go. It was monday night and the football game is much more important than them hippies.

Ne'ermind me...in a weird one today. Still never heard 'em though.

From today's Canberra Times, after some mention of them being influenced by Oasis, "The killers - after a fictional portrayal of the ultimate band. depicted in a New Order video, and not they insist because they killed anyone." ................. " The Killers then moved on to developing their sound. The fact that their name came from a New Order video offers a clue to their direction. " Peter Hook's the man!" Flowers says. " With his jean, leather jacket and his hairy chest, he's a burley man in a tank top, yet he plays these beautiful bass lines.

This article originaly is from the Independant, but the Order gets a mention so seldomly in my local rag, so I decided to share this with you anyway.

Hot Fuss was at Best Buy for $8 so I had to pick it up. Will listen to it soon.

The opening track on their album "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" definitely is a nod to the Peter Hook school for bass players.

They need to add a key/synth player to free up the singer and unleash the synths. Synths not getting enough air as it is. Only the vox on the "Jenny" vaguely reminded me of Duran2. The rest of the lp reminded me more of what Interpol should sound like with most songs distinguishable from the others. Not a bad album, will get some rotation.

Tracks one and three are good tunes. There isnt much to say about the rest of the album though.

I missed the Killers gig I had tickets for in May because I was in hospital recovering from an operation.

I am seeing them early next year though in the NME awards show at Manchester Acemdemy. I can't wait, although the Killers are influended by New Order I think they are one of the most original bands of 2004.

I can't keep up with all this modern music, but I did get Q or Uncut or something recently with Mr Brightside on the cover disk and thought it was pretty good. Reminded me more of Pulp than New Order, though. Any band that take their name from a NO video can't be all bad, surely? I was also pleased to find I hated the Keane track and liked the Libertines one, so all my prejudices were fulfilled. Which was nice.

From The Killers bio on MTV (Link)

« The early core of the band was cemented, but they needed a name. In watching New Order’s music video for the song “Crystal,” the guys became inspired. The video features New Order playing in a fictitious band called “The Killers.” “It gave me the ambition that our actual band should be as perfect as their fictional band,” says Flowers. »

The feckers have now taken one of NO's other vestiges - the LifeStyle Sports adverts.

The normal rotation LifeStyle ad has been a modern 25 second recreation of cinderella (bloke trying to find girl who's lost a trainer), to the bit of Crystal about buying love with honey

The new ad has The Killers - Mr Brightside as the music.

Not bad, for someone of my years. How about yourself? Perhaps Mr. H will reappear when the new album comes out.

Hopefully for this is MUCH duller place without him.I am doing very well.In fact i am HAVING a good run of BAD luck!

Things are definitely not the same without him.

I hope the emphasis is more on the GOOD than the BAD.

Don't you think the ending to this song sounds exactly like it could be the end to an early NO song??

Anyway, the Killers. Wear their influences on their sleeves, but that's okay because half the album is excellent if you're not too bothered about it being highly derivative. Not convinced they have a long future ahead of them, but never mind - I'll enjoy them for the time being.
