In my opinion Get Ready sounds like what Republic should of sounded like.Don't know about you lot but thats just me.

Opinion respected, but I (presume) I am one of the few people on here who really enjoyed Republic as an album. I took to it a hell of alot quicker than I did to Get Ready however it's probably fair to remember that both LPs relate to different periods in New Order's life. Do I think Republic should have sounded like Get Ready? Absolutely not. Most of Republic was written in the early 90s when the band were heavily into House music as well as enduring disintegrating friendships so naturally that whole vibe came across, and in a more electronic way. Get Ready is more of a "we've made up, we're back and we've been listening to alot of Neil Young" album. They're two seperate and hugely different periods.
I'm not that much of a Get Ready bitcher :D although I think everyone would agree it is an LP containing some really poor tracks, not mentioning any names *COUGH* Rock The Shack *splutter* Slow Jam *hack* 60 MPH *passout*. But then again we do have the high points such as Crystal, Turn My Way, Vicious Streak, even the B-sides Sabotage and Player in the league were fucking great IMO. Get Ready was a grower for me, but it's still not as good as Technique or Republic IMO. Republic has it's faults too, some duff tracks which were obviously written on a teabreak (Liar, Chemical) but the best tracks like Regret, RIAD, Everyone Everywhere, Special, and Avalanche is the band at their songwriting peak. Alot of people take issue with Stephen Hauge's production but I really like that kind of PSB "gloss" at times, plus I don't think rougher production would've suited the Republic tracks or Barney's voice at that time. What was that I heard about Barney having vocal coaching on the advice of Neil Tennant?
But back to the point of the post, two Get Ready's in a row would've been very boring

One problem I've always had with Republic is that most of it is basically a slightly more club-oriented Pet Shop Boys album with Bernard Sumner in Neil Tennant's place, that's all. The songwriting, the production, some of the arrangements, the non-emphasis on Hooky's bass, the singing (as Ally pointed out, changing his singing style might have preserved Barney's voice but I also mourn for the loss of the old passion), it all points to this.
I do like PSB but I guess this is why I tend to favour Get Ready over Republic; GR seems to be a more democratic album in the end, and the most distinguishable thing in NO's music, Hooky's bass, is more audible there. Not that this rationalization is proper proof over which is the better album, but anyway. ;)
I love 'Get Ready',but i think it sounds like Electronic-the 'Twisted Tenderness' album especially.
What i am saying is Regret sounds like it wouldn't go a miss on Get Ready but the rest of Republic sounds to much like early Electronic.

NO albums that have had a producer involved are no way near as good as NO produced albums, they should ditch these numpty's, they make better records on their own, as Hannet said (a very vague memory, I could be wrong),every band should produce themselves.
They'd also make more cash, and could even open a new club, hacienda for the over 35's anyone?
