'Greatest List' *** POLL NOW CLOSED ***

Good day to one and all.

This is not going to be easy for some members with weak hearts and people who could have an adverse reaction to flashing strobe lights... turn away now any cats with the stamina and stomach of a ferret. This is an attempt to compile 'The Greatest List Ever' in the hope that 1 song may be narrowed down, finely tuned and presented as 'The Single Best Song New Order Have Ever Done... Ever'.

The task is simple, the selection process though will be bitter and I expect gang fights, the pillaging of small animals and copious amounts of blood on various dancefloors.

Select your personal 'Top 2' New Order tracks. That's right kids, just '2'. If everyone has the strength to participate the rewards will be splendid. One song will be plucked from the list... 1 song. What could it be?... only you can determine the outcome.

Choose wisely my friends... after all, I'd hate for Rock the Shithouse to appear as the definitive belter.

:hat:

I thank you in advance for your many and varied responses. Offer ends Thursday 4pm GMT. Results posted Friday afternoon.

How I would laugh if RTS did come tops. Though I think its about as likely as Britney still being a virgin...anyhow

Dream Attack Round & Round

And if Slow Jam gets a single mention I might get very very angry

Hmm, for how long didn't I take another poll? (there are some on the french forum too, you know..)

Anyhow, here are my £0.02: The Perfect Kiss (12") Vanishing Point

Temptation Bizarre Love Triangle (Substance version)

Well, Huntsy, another well-chosen topic, I'd say.

I know you will not be surprised that one of my top two is:

LEAVE ME A LOAN

The second pick will be much harder and I'm not prepared to commit myself yet. Of course, Temptation Island will be hard to resist. But then, I was listening to the Razormaid remixes (2 and 3) of Subculture last night, and that one too will be hard to leave off even such a short list. And some dark horse may even come from behind. I'm pretty sure it won't be Regret, though.

Think you might as well rename the thread 2nd greatest etc.. as Temptation is coasting it.

Okay....my selection will be

  1. Temptation
  2. Regret

and hey, I've got a NO friend here with me right now...here's his vote....

  1. Temptation
  2. Run2

Better count these votes in, Huntsy....

Never fear See-You Jimmy... all friends are welcome to add their own tuppence hapenny. Friend vote counted in... though snakes right, Tempting Miss Daisy seems to be the outright numero uno and we've only had a few inputs from the land.

I never expected Patty to submit his choice so quickly, he must have been doing speed this morning... no surprise Patty that you never let yourself fully go. Be quick with your second choice cat, as the poll shuts tomorrow.

Although Tempting Fish might coast to number 1... the second choice could be very, very interesting.

I vote The Village and Your silent Face and so do these other infinite millions I just asked.

Huntsy, surely you wouldn't have thought it would take me long to identify Leave Me a Bone as one of my top two?

And how am I supposed to figure out when 4 pm GMT is exactly?

You know, Huntsy, The Lone Bone may only get two votes. Where's Jeff when we need him?

i was pretty close to voting for it myself (and Temptation) but as I'm so 'maaaad' I didn't. It'd certainly be in my top 5

Damn you Huntsman!! Just when I think I have a definitive top two ensconsed firmly in my subconcious, along comes a spider who sits down beside me and says, 'are those really your top two Muffball?'. From a cast of millions how can we pick two, bugger me if this is'nt the hardest poll ever!! This will take some thinking about ............................. :smoking:

My votes are:

  1. 1963
  2. BLT

(But due to severe overconsumption of said songs, I currently would prefer listening to Redrum and Leave Me a Loan)

Yeah top tune. My 3rd fave on technique. I'd be a bit suprised if I was the only one to mention Dream attack to be honest.

Wheres Facsy disappeared to again? I know he's a R&R fan aswell.

Trust me Muffy i know what your goin thru... i'm also agonising over my second choice - even so far as to listen to live versions of my 'shortlist' in order to gauge the level of goosebumps that are created by the listen... but then again no one said it would be easy... :nonono:

Best song, Ceremony! And you know I mean the original Hunts, not the wishy washy Substance version. I've never forgotten the feeling of joy I had when I first heard it, and as i've said many times, it still gives me the shivers to this day. Number two will take some time to decide, so many contenders you see. I'll be back! :smoking:

Apologies to one and all at the '2 song restriction law' enforced for this post. I'm sure you'll agree it was for the best. If I'd said '3 songs' you'd all have taken about 9 hundred days and its only the cream we desire for this, the ultimate compilation of only the best of the best of the best.

Dreaming about Attacks and Ceramics are now locked in a duel... its like Man vs. Human Sphincter whilst making love under the knowledge a turtle is fighting to be released down the U-bend.

Yes Paps.. no 3rds.

Your an old school fan so I'll let you off, but you have endangered the list by introducing extraneous elements i.e. a 3rd choice. I repeat nobody else make this hideous and unforgettable error.

Poll closes 4pm GMT and I noticed Booster the Rooster Cogburn has not laid his best 2 tracks as yet... surely Buster the Booster isn't going to let us down?... is the decision too tricky?

:hat:

Dunno about Buster the Rooster Booster or whoever, but our good friend the Klump has posted - one was BLT,can't remember the other.

Not much off GR yet. Crystal was in my thoughts though

Hunstah,

Maybe you could deduce from the responses which im assuming you will collate into some assemblence of order, which album appears to feature the most popular tracks...

Might as well strike Grrrready off the list right now.

OK, Huntsy, it appears Jeff has rejected my offer.

So after much soul-searching and CD listening, my two choices are:

  1. Leave Me Alone

  2. Temptation

Runners-up (these are not thirds, Huntsy, just runners-up):

Age of Consent, 586, and This Time of Night

This Time Of Night..

Good taste my friend!, that made my short list and came soooo darned close... just edged out by the power and bitter anger in FaceUp.

Well, Inta Don, I like Face Up a lot. As I've said before, "Guess what I'm gonna do to you" is one of the very great moments in all NO. I guess I decided This Time of Night has the edge because it's a little more serious, and plenty bitter too: "You search your empty brain in vain," for example.

Well done Patty... you can rest now after such stupendous choices. Incidentally, The Time is Night is also another fave of my own... your right, it has serious depth and a gritty edge of paranoia. Its wonderful. Melancholy ahoy.

I will attempt to squeeze as many titbits from the poll results International Donald... never fear, I wouldn't miss the opportunity.

:hat:

Thanks, Huntsy. You know, in a prior poll when you asked for two tracks per album, I picked four from Low-Life, and I'm not even sure if This Time of Night was among them. Now it seems to me it captures the essence of what makes NO special and great.

Indeed, and "now you must decide, what goods a lie when you've nothing to hide" also made the choice ever so more agonising... but... "You took me a little further..." just blows me away everytime i hear it!!

Sonner than We All Thought is always a top tenner for me, as is The Time of Night is Not Now and various other things. Tempting Miss Daisy as voted most recently by the Kung Fu Kid now hoists the song to a level not seen since Kong climbed The Empire State building on his way to avoid the tax man.

Snakes Round the U-Bend and Dreaming about Attacks is a highly commendable recommendation and he deserves a mention for sticking his slippery neck out the little grass cutter.

Ceremony... in a quite astonishing move, seems to be putting up an almost unbearable fight.

Perhaps this post should have had a parental rating... but that would exclude Patrick so maybe not. Unless it was PG 13.

Huntsy baby, you made it so bloody hard, in fact probably immpossible, to remove the wheat from, well, the rest of the wheat and come up with a top two but a decision had to be made. Name a hundred other bands and say, name your top two and ninety-nine times it would be a walk in a cake factory but with the Order fuckin soul wretching! Temptation is heaven sent, yes indeed, but the multiple orgasm that is The Perfect Kiss is for me the second finest song in known history, and to be honest, Teenage Temptress is a close, very close third. :smoking:

I reckon time is up.....

I stand proud with my choice of Face Up :)

although i must confess to wincing on numerous occasions when i read some other peoples choices.. not in a "oooh thats a shit track" way - more in a, "damn! i wish i didnt have to leave out that track.." way Vanishing point, blt, regret, this time of nite all immediatly spring to mind. I've also grown very fond of Weirdo recently which interestingly seems to get very little attention :(

Still there can only be one final result. I await with baited breath to see what comes.... second!!!

Well I was sort of trying to be philosphical and say that like so many NO tracks I love, it could be in my top ten as theres so many tracks I like enough to be in a top ten of favourite songs, and they generally change from day to day.

No more crap attempts at philosphy for me then.

Nice to see there are other people who really like Weirdo. In fact my top 2 was compiled from The Perfect Kiss (definite no 1), BLT (album version), Regret, Temptation and Weirdo. I liked this song the first time I heard it (when it came out) and loved it ever since, from the stereo opening, some of Barney's best singing and the great instrumental ending. In a new poll it could well be my number 2!

In an ironic twist of fate the first thing I did at 4pm GMT almost the exact moment my system began working was to come here to post the results... but the site was down! - anyway I concentrated on making safe my files whilst the gods re-instated this glorious man hole into its rightful position on the interpipe.
