Krafty:Well....whats the verdict...?

Jurys out here im afraid.Now that most people are getting to hear it (thanx Shugz)whats the verdict.Like everyone else ,after waiting so long for new material you do tend to get carried away on the first couple of 'listens'.. thats your 'New Order Ears' kicking in ..euphoria of something new ,but after listening to it many times ,i think its very lightweight compared to many other New Order songs.In fact ..dare i say it ..it reminds me of 'Such a good thing'..only slightly better.Quite ajolly tune ..and definetly recognizable as New Order...but i was expecting something a bit different maybe something a little more 'darker'..seems to me they might have played it safe with this one ..radio friendly and all that.. Hopin the album offers more than this first helping ...as Jo whiley says at the end of the song ..."New Order,WERE so innovative"..past tense/..lets hope they they can produce something to match the hype/hysteria of a soon to be released album..

hello. longtime fan, first post.

just heard krafty + ripped it off the oui fm broadcast. i voted "better than expected" in the poll thread.

mostly i'm very happy to hear a big, friendly, major-key-melodies single from them once again, in a way that crystal and 60mph didn't do it for me.

my favorite bit is the part where you hear a bar or two of hooky's bass, then bernard or phil's buzzy guitar joins in right after. it's probably too pat to put it this way, but something about those few bars just feels right, given the new cohesion in the band.

Have to agree with Howie. I was thinking of "such a good thing" as well but I couldnt remember the name of the song. I was expecting more from the way people were braggin, but hey I still love em

The song is not so good, not at all a "killer track" like Crystal could be. It reminds me Electronic (at their best, that means the worst of New Order). A B-side like Player in the League was 10 times better... BUT there is also a few good moments on the track which is radio-friendly, for sure... I need to hear it again. A very good song of the 'Such a Good Thing' and 'Brotherhood' ilk, but I really hope that the rest of the album is nowhere near as wispy and sweet as this track. BTW this sounds like a very good song for the Order to perform live.

OK now listened to the whole track off Pete Tong show about 5 times. If you click on the forward tab twice it will start in about a min and a half. I think its a class track..I like the opening guitar riff, Steves drums sound ace throughout the track...the lyrics are catchy and slightly electronicy..but sound great with Hookys bass...loads of Hooky influence in this track I think (esp Monaco)...Good Hooky bass after the techno wobbly bit...all round a class track. The question is will it go to Number 1. With all the kids now downloading music, if we all buy it....we may have a chance of a New Order number one!!! Ding Dang Do!!!!!

I like it. Quite a bit. Even though it's very Brotherhood-y, which is not my favourite New Order style, admittedly..

I preferred Such A Good Thing though.

i listened to it twice and i agree with others how it sounds 'brotherhood' with little more synth/snares. Not quite sure what to think of it, it's definitely melodic and do i dare say happy? Not a bad first single, it's lukewarm in my opinion. Now I'm interested in the rest of the tracks and hopefully it will be more in line with the last single "Here to stay" the edgy, dance music.

I can totally see the Brotherhood connection here. I really wish that the opening Hooky line was more extended. Bernard came in too soon there.

Parts of the song were really good - the "chime" keyboard parts were a little weak. Morris was exceptional on that track. Agree that it would sound good live.

As for the "Such a Good Thing" connection - I admit I really had to rack my brain and to be honest, I had never heard it before tonight. I now have only heard the 30 sec clip on the media section. Was it only available on Retro ? Can someone give me the lowdown on the track. Was it released as a single ?

5.38 am and the tears have flowed because id forgotten how much they meant to me so many years ago and now its all come back upon hearing some new stuff....

I know what you mean. Could this be a radio/single edit? I'd like to think the album version will be a little more fleshed out.

I am sooo happy listening to this track over and over...I feel like the first time I put on brotherhood...this track also reminds me of All the Way and Run in addition to the many listed...this is way way better than such a good thing.

They are finally a "band" again. Republic had some technically great songs (special, regret) and GR was a good "get back together" record...but I never felt the pure chemistry that made NO special on Technique, Brotherhood etc. On GR it was almost like they had big expectations to live up to and it kind of showed...I felt that they were trying too hard on some tracks.

Is the track pop and happy...yes and so what! I would be bored to tears if they stayed stuck in one mode...and sounded like they used to.

The magic is still clearly there...and perhaps they are even enjoying themselves?

This song is actually really really radio friendly and awesome at the same time.New Order really are just the coolest band ever.Effortless genius.Hookys basslines on this song are so gorgeous it hurts and sends me to a place that cant be put into mere words.Wonder what airplay itll actually get though.At least Sara Cox isnt on Radio 1 anymore so that gives the track more of a chance.She played Crystal a few times but she always put it on when the news was coming up so as to ensure she could cut it off about less than half way through with the excuse that it was 8.30 and time for the news.

Whilest I listened to reqading Supertent 87 last night I was wondering if Sirens was going to have those dark satirical vengeful bitter songs like Face Up, Sub-Culture, Angel Dust ect. Reading Barney's comments on the track listing there appears to be that possibility. I certainly hope so. While I enjoy the lighter songs (Such a Good Thing and Krafty) I hope that the lp is not a prozac/Zoloft moment.

on my third listen. i really want to like it but i can't make my mind up. the chorus is a bit weak IMO, musically its nice and i never give a fuck about the lyrics.

as im listening its starting to grow on me. i wasnt sure about crystal at first either but the thing i like about new orders music is it grows on me and becomes soemthing i'll play for ever.

i'd like to think this is an edited version and that the album version will have more of an edge to it.

still its a good time for my record collection with the chems, doves and new order all releasing new albums soon

So do I. What really scared me when I listened to Krafty was that it was heralding a new "Republic". To me, "Republic" is a bit underrated, but it still lags far behind the other albums, namely Brotherhood or Technique. "Krafty" sounds too upbeat and doesn't contain the bitter-sweet tunes that make me love NO such as Crystal or Regret(powerful, catchy, aggressive and ambient at some moments).

Fingers-crossed for a subtler album...

Couldn't even begin to explain why, but this song moves me like New Order always used to (but haven't since Regret), and therefore - Krafty is absolutely fucking brilliant!

Thumbs up with me. Catchy chorus, plenty of bass. I can see the Brotherhood comparisons.

Don't understand the negativity of people about the lyrics mind. Barney freely admits to hate lyric writing. He can sing about paint drying and yachting as long as the song is great IMHO.

Wow, so many Krafty threads I've been looking through some of the different comments and it seems that views are quite mixed. I can't believe I still haven't heard it yet.

I'm sure i'll like it though and i'm just happpy that we've got an exciting few months coming up NO wise :)

I think I may have posted on one of the 2000 different threads about this song stating my reservations about this track.

However change of opinion...It really grows on you.

IMO not as powerful as Regret but alot better than Crystal/Here to Stay.

Still not looking forward to the cringemaking appearance on TOTP
