New Album vs B-Sides

well, you're assuming that b-side quality songs will become the next A-side stuff, as it was the stuff not good enough to make it onto the new album. let's hope that's not the case. a whole album of b-side quality material? well, i guess that would still put it above most of republic.

No new songs and an album within a year. Use the following "B-Sides":

1. Krafty b/w Temptation original 7".
2. Jetstream b/w Confusion 7"
3. Waiting for the sirens call b/w Thieves like us 7"

At least we can live in hope!

I wish they could release rare remixes as B-sides in 2005 and a rare album in 2006... :)

Like this idea, a good one. They could throw in a live version as well.

What about releasing remixes of old songs such as AOC by Howie B or 5 8 6 by Peter Black ? Have these already been released as NO B-sides ?

Indeed even though i have these on 7inch records i need a NEW BELT for my TECHNICs so they play at about 43rpm.As TIM noted LIVE also would be a BONUS.I hope the artwork is being finished PETER! ;)

Put them out as b-sides. Let's not have any bloody remixes this time.

Actually I'd really like them to do the b-sides by just going into the studio with nowt and hammering out something on the spot. Totally opposite to the way they work, but would be fascinating.

I agree, less crappy remixes and more gems as b-sides. Live stuff preferred....

I prefer B sides... singles are so much better with them... Republic was frustrating because of all those remixes with no new songs (well, apart from Vicious Circle, which sounded like a sort of "remix" anyway), Get Ready's been a great time with all those great tracks, and I'm sure people were more happy to buy the singles... Also you never know, if they put them as B sides at least we get the songs, if New Order split up for whatever reason it could take much longer to have those tracks on a compilation, if that's ever made. It's also true that tracks like Player In The League would have deserved a release as a single or at least album track, but that's what made more worthy the singles... You know, the 2CD Substance was a great compilation becuase you got all those tracks which were B sides (it wouldn't have made sense if they all were already into the albums) and it would be great if another compilation like that is released next year with the non-album tracks like Brutal, Vietnam, Vicious Streak, MTO, Don't Do It and all the B sides from Get Ready and the forthcoming album. We can wait for yet another album, if they ever actually make any... it's already a miracle they're returning this year just before reaching their fifties...

How about sticking all the old 'vinyl only' stuff on the singles as well as new b.sides,then release a 'live' album?

You know,Nic is spot on (excuse the pun!). Thats exactly what we should want,singles which are singles. It would be brilliant to see the single come out and be like they were in the old days.

A sleeve which means fuck all and a track listing to match:

I remember thinking when 'Republic' came out i was disappointed the singles were full of third party remixes instead of alternate versions. It would of been great to have a 12" with Regret/Regretful/Regretfully on.

If all B sides wheer like in a lonely place, lonesome tonight, 1963 I would love an album like that, but I do like remixes, how about a midfile and samples single so we can do our own remixes, that would cause me to ignore everything else in life for ages:D

How about an double cd of B sides like the PSB did??? :)

I totally agree with you there. The fact is that remixes are both more creative and riskier than extended versions. Some remixes revived songs to the extent they've turned out to be almost official versions, and songs on their own : Blue Monday '88, BLT (Shep Pettibone) are the best examples.

And to me, Crystal (Lee Combs) is a real killer indeed !!

I like the idea of an album to listen to in your car or in your living room, and singles to dance to in clubs. My choice would be singles with 1 high quality remix (like some of the Crystal and HTS remixes) and 1 new song each. No need to put the radio version or album version on the single, by the way.

be realistic.... put the extra songs on the singles... do you seriously think they would put out another album in a year??? c'mon.... and lets see how solid the tracks on the Sirens call are in the first place before everybody gets too excited...

if they really are all that inspired and revitalized, let 'em write another new dozen tracks for a new album...

as for remixes, they always choose above current average dance producers, some are hit or miss, but its worth a try. they should be a little more selective on who they throw money at, make sure they get guys who are excited at the prospect of doing New order
