Bernard's performance Glastonbury 87

Was just wondering if Bernard was high or something at Glastonbury 87. I've been listening to the BBC Live In Concert CD and he sounds totally out of it lol.

One random hilarious comment that sticks to mind at the end of BLT "That's the last song with big endings" mermes a bit then says "Big songs, small dicks".

And what does he say at the end of True Faith? Sounds like he's complaining to a member of the audience or something. It sounds like he's saying stop flashing the lights at me, i'm not sure.

Yeah, basically I just find it all hilarious. And interesting. Anyone know as to why he was singing so mad, don't think it sounds bad but it's different that's for sure.

yeah, it makes no sense to me either, and it's not because of the accent. he's just out of his mind when he's talking - can't seem to put those sentences together.

I know what you mean, though. Based on that performance, I spent a long time thinking New Order had debuted a song that night called "Toothpaste"...

I still remember the comment of a friend when she first heard the performance, played during sunday night live, on a local radio station 15 years ago, "He sounded like he was on drugs. Was he?"

Me: "Yes".

Couldn't believe this was the same Bernard that recorded such sublime vocals on True Faith and 1963 the very same month.

at the end of that gig Barney stays on-stage for about 5 minutes after the rest of the band have disappeared and proceeds to stomp around the stage destroying various bits of expensive hardware. I love that gig, especially the version of Temptation

Barney at the end of BLT: 'Notice how all our songs finish wi big endings? [crowd noise] Big s[p]ongs, small dicks'.

I interpret that as a dig at the hair metal bands who Barney sees as making up for their lack of 'size' with their music. Whereas as we know Barney and Hooky (don't know about Steve) have no problem in that department.

My favourite Barney quote from that gig: 'It's like playin' at the British Legion in Salford this'

I've got to see some video footage of this gig for comic value.

A typical Bernard live performance really - every other gig between 1984 and 1987 was a bit like this one!

There is an audience tape, and the True Faith live footage I believe is from this gig. Yes typical Barney for this era my memory banks have this saved as a great gig possibly because like one of the previous posts i was more out of it than Barney, didn't carry the girlfriend back to the tent though. At least I hope not , JT?

As Pizda said, the footage from the True Faith video is from that performance. The American version of the video contains scenes of Barney's comical equipment destruction.

Anyone got it/know anyone who's got it?

Yeah, do you think there's a link to it somewhere? I'd love to see it.

Err... Yes there is. , It's the stuff used in The TF video. They recorded a couple more songs but then left the stage.

The 'stop flashing...' was, I presume, a left over from JD days when they didn't have flashing lights playing infront of them because of IC's epilepsy.

I thoaght, for some unfathomable reason, he'd had called it Tu Fait.
