Just one thought ...the ahem, version of the album that the majority of people have "heard"..do you think this is the finished article or a promo like GetReady..its just that the version i have seen/heard keeps chuckin up the original titles ..like Lordsy etc ..

Think you'll find that most here who have, ahem, *allegedly* heard a copy of the album have *allegedly* got the working titles only. Not hard to then apply the true titles. Some of the tracks *allegedly* sound a fraction unfinished but this is very close to the *alleged* real thing.

"Guilt" seems too much as a stereotypical dance club anthem, but I guess thats what they wanted. it won't play well in some circles in the USA... sounds too "gay club" or maybe too Abercrombie & Fitch, the US is very resistant to crossing genre barriers. "Guilt" already sounds like a remix to me, New Order diluted by Stuart Price, they should have saved this for a remix single and had a more "new-orderly" production on the album. the beats and chorus are too "by the book/ current club" for me, hardly groundbreaking but it is nice solid production, the New Order moments are too subtle for me, but there if you listen hard between the "chorus".
"Jetstream" is interesting, I'm sure they will remix the heck out of this for the single, but this does seem like it has a leftfield chance to be a big mainstream pop hit maybe for the 20-30 something demo, interesting to see how they promote this
"Hey Joe"/ "Krafty"/ "Turn" /"How now-road 2 Ruin" (the most surprising track to me as far as being unexpected) could all get airplay on alternative flavoured radio. I think thats why they chose "Krafty" for a single because it sounds so much like New Order, but could still be remixed well for the dance floor, its a good choice. I really couldnt see any of these songs being played on mainstream pop or rock radio in the US. all nice solid tracks, thou the actual real guitar solo in "How now" seems so un-New order
"Dracula's Castle" and "Morning Night and Day" have not really grown on me yet. "Dracula's Castle" is probably the most stereotypical New Order song to me in the group.
"I Told You So" is bonkers like they said. It's funny and fun.
"Working Overtime" is tighter produced and better written than "Rock the Shack". the Iggy reference is right on, but the song really seems to be in the vein of the pseudo-garage glam rock that has been popular in the last couple of years
i have yet to hear the title track, hopefully it is a corker
that New Order, in their late 40s, could be putting out such a lively, confident record in 2005 is damn cool.
Well, now that I think there is no harm to review it, since they already know I have it (...), I can do my little personal review.
I love the album... I can't figure yet if it's #1, 2 or 3.. only time will tell.
The only thing I can say about this, is that this album would have been perfect to release in 1993. Seriously, add Regret to this one, and it's the real follower to Technique, isn't it? ;)
Most of the material on this album reminded me of Electronic material, but enhanced. I guess it's normal as Bernard was huge in Electronic, and Phil's guitar style must be close to Johnny Marr..
So here we go, I'll do a proper one when I'll have the finished version of the album (this isn't it folks, I have been told at least 2 songs shouldn't fade out):
Who's Joe?
Intro reminds me of Prodigal Son, one of my favorite tracks on Twisted Tenderness. This song could have been on that album actually... The chorus is REALLY good... Hooky's bass is magic on there. Overall a great song, I can't think of any "New Order" song sounding like this.
Grade: 7.5
Hey Now What You Doing
Title is pretty much Gwen Stefani style is it?
Lyrically, this is a mix of Close Range and 1963 ;)
Not one of my favorite, but it does sound good.

Waiting For The Sirens Call
To be honest, I was expecting a lot more from this track.. Bernard was so sure it was the "New Order Classic" that I had high expectations.
It's a good track, but not a classic... one thing I did realize is how close the bass line to Krafty's one...
Grade: 8.5
Krafty
Am I the only one who loves this track? For me, it's one of the album's highest point! It FITS so well on the album that the song made sense then.
This one has a superb instrumental part in the middle.. but remember, Get Ready's best musical break was probably 60 Miles An Hour, and it didn't make it the best track of the album for that.
Grade: 8.5
I Told You So
Lightyears ahead of the dancehall remixes of Ruined In A Day, is it? It's not bad, but it's probably the weakest song of the album... but that's something you have never really seen New Order do. Vietnam in my book was a better take at Carrabean music, but it was a cover.
Sorry, but I don't see the Ace of Base connection, there is no cheap keyboards on there ;)
I believe on a yatch in the Carrabeans, this would be very enjoyable.

Morning Night And Day
Reminds me of Someone Like You... don't know why. Without the cheesy chorus of course. Although SLY's musical track was better than this.
But I'm not yet a fan of this one.

Dracula's Castle
You can seriously sing Dream Attack on this one.. have you noticed? "I don't belong to no one, but I wanna be with you" fits well!
Has a Guilty Partner feel.
Not bad, but again, not one of my favorite.

Jetstream
First reaction was.. "Oh my God, they have done it again... CHEESY CHEESY CHEESY".... reminded me of an enhanced version of Republic's LIAR.
But seriously, after a couple of listenings, you are humming it... Ana Matronic's part adds a lot to this song.. it's just a pure fun song not to take seriously.
However, I suspect this will be many people's Slow Jam.

Guilt Is A Useless Emotion
I HATED it the first few times, now it's probably one I want to listen more often... this one could is sounding like it's directly off Raise The Pressure... fits with Dark Angel, If You've Got Love and Until The End of Time VERY well, it's the same style of music.
I don't remember when was the last time New Order made a so dancable track... Backing vocals might annoy at the beginning, but they are done very well. A grower, that's for sure.

Turn
Ok, I don't see why so many people praise this one so much, it's a very good song, but don't go too far ;) However I'm positive this one would be a hit in the US market.. but then again, Turn My Way was my pick on Get Ready, they never released it.
Mixture of Forbidden City and Vanishing Point in my book...

Working Overtime
Not a bad track, I'm not as surprises as I was when I heard Rock The Shack, but to be honest, it doesn't fit at all with the rest of the album... could have been an off-album single like Here To Stay.
That's Rock & Roll for sure.

Overall:
This album ranks among the top 4 so far, there is no standout track, this actually means that the album is solid, but just like Technique, there is no real "hit" on this album, just a very strong and solid album.
This should shut the people who thought they were done.
So far my favorite is Krafty though, I'm sorry to be the only one to think that ;) Others will grow on me and I'm quite sure it will change with time, but seriously, the song is really good when you listen to it in the album.. maybe it's because Waiting For The Sirens Call is a good song to start with ;)

From these reviews by the veterans and the newbies, this does sound like a goddamn good album, compared to the palty reviews Get Ready got. I want to thank you all for TORTURING me until the UK release (I'm trying to not to give in to...temptation 
). And after ordering it and having it mailed to my trembling hands, I'll have to buy the US version to help boost the sales. I'll even recommend it to all my friends (if I get any by then 
) if I like it half as much as you all do.

Hopefully the figures are right - I have guessed Almanso's from the review he gave, & stuck in a 7 for MrKay for WFTSC, otherwise the figures should be right. 
Not that any of this will influence NO, but its interesting that the singles seem to be rated as average album tracks (except WFTSC) wheras TURN seems to be the standout track for many.
I'd like to find out the reactions of NON-No fans to these tracks - Which ones could appeal to the casual singles buyers out there? (or girls, as they are usually called)

Anyone else picked up the whistling to the Banana Splits tune at the start of Jetstream Lover?
Right, seeing as the everyone else is doing it, I have disected this for the last few days.
Everyone knows I will be at the shops the day this comes out, fuck me, I spent 3 hours last night getting out every JD/NO and side project related album, single, 12", CD and not only photographed them - but videod the whole collection as well (with the new album playing in the background)
The missus thinks I am one sad bastard. Who am I to argue?
Anyway, I will call the songs by the name I prefer....and I'm writing this review as I listen to the album....AGAIN:D
1 Lordsy. FUCK ME! How good is this bastard? Do I hear Day Of The LORDS in there somewhere? From the opening till the end it stinks of CLASSIC neworder. This says a lot for Phil slotting right in as well. The lyrics are crisp and I have to agree with Nicos Le Blank on this, reminiscent of Barney's vocals from TT. Hooky's Bass all the way through is brilliant. LOVE IT 10/10
2 Road To Ruin I'm sure I've heard that opening bass bit on something else as well, love the lyrics and the whole upbeat feel to this. I can hear Marresque early Electronic / Smiths guitar on this as well (which is good) Ma heid is being held well high with this one. 9/10
3 Waiting For The Sirens Call Slower tempo than RTR, love the slow build up to the chorus, which is catchy as fuck, foots tapping away. Love the synth feel as well. Mellow track. 9/10
4 Krafty After playing this to death for the last couple of weeks I thought it would be getting on ma tits by now, but it's the complete opposite. This song gets better and better. Barney's lyrics you have to learn to love, and after listening to the Order for near on 20 years, I have learnt to let some of Barney's lyrics float by and enjoy the MUSIC. I hope this does well, I keep finding masel singing the chorus while roaming around the house. I think JG mentioned the musical bit where Steve and Barney are playing Space Invaders, couldn't have put it better. Again, Love it 9.5/10
5 I told You So
First time I heard the album, wasn't sure what to think, I guessed this would be the Fine Time song, the one that didn't quite fit. This time I think it was Jarvo who said it was "Kraftwerk do Reggae" 
Another mellow track, and as I listen again, I think it will grow on me if I give it a chance, let's just say I didn't expect to hear anything like this on the album. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. 6/10
6 Morning Night and Day The start reminds me of an Electronic track, as it gets further along I can hear a Pet Shop Boys vibe, can I also hear a MATERIAL GIRL riff in there? Listen to the boom boom boom boom bit that's what I'm hearing! not a massive fan of the verses, but the chorus certainly grabs you and cheers me up a bit. 8/10
7 Minidisc2 (Darcula's Castle? The Mad Fuckers )
Once it kicks in after about 30 seconds it's alright, brilliant bass from the Hookmeister, this was another song along the lines of I Told You So that didn't really grab me, still hasn't to be honest. 7/10
8 Jetstream J-E-T, J-E-T, in the chorus, again, too many drugs here! Another slow starter which pisses me aff, but once we get past the daft J-E-T bit, this kicks yer arse! I also find masel singing this chorus as I wander about the house or work. That bird from Scissor Sisters has done a good job, I love the bit where her and Barney exchange a few lines, fuckin good that. It's growning on me. 8/10
9 Fast Synth
Dog's bollocks, but, starts off slow again. (this is another rap record!) then BANG, they are getting good at these fookin chorus' a right disco feel to this one, I am guessing this could be played at gigs, Steve will get a rest from the drum kit It's a cracking song, not my favourite, but right up there. 8.5/10
10 Turn So this is the song that we were all too pished to ever hear properly at Hooky's DJ Sets. This could be ma favourite. Upbeat as fuck, good story to this one, DoN taped this on his phone from leadmills or whatever that place was called, but the quality was pretty gash, nearly killed masel with the headphones turned right up for it. It's great to hear it again, Phil stands out on this one as well, brilliant vocals from Barney, Hooky's bass isn't as prolific but it's there and Steve's drumming is, erm, Steve's drumming:D 10/10
11 Working Overtime WTF? Retro magico! I fuckin love this track, in fact, this could be ma favourite. I can hear the Kinks and Stones and Stooges in this, geetar fest, have I said I fuckin love this yet? Love the faster guitar songs and this will be the song played as I'm getting ready to go out for a few jars. 10/10
Now all we need is them to play AGE OF CONSENT at one of the gigs and I can die happy.
Overall, it blows everything away except for my favourite all-time album Technique. Couple of songs still have a bit of growing to be done, but I love the album. A superb return. Cheers lads

Decent album. That's about all I can say. I know I'm not comparing an apple with an apple here and I'm conscious of the fact I've been quite negative of late but has anyone downloaded the new Doves album yet?
It's a major coincidence that two of my favourite bands have release dates so close to each other and that I've come into posession of their albums within days of each other but the contrast between the two is significant.
One band are at the peak of their powers having produced an album which surpasses their last two outstanding offerings. The other band are New Order.
And I 'm confused by the "at least it's it's better than Get Ready" line. If I was to compare it to any previous New Order album it would be Get Ready! Although like it or not it actually sounds more like Electronic.
I think thats fair to compare the new album to Raise the pressure and Twisted Tenderness, and the two Monaco albums. I think the band is more comfortable this time, Get Ready was learning to work together again after a decade... Barney's song writing is more comfortable this time around, and its not like Electronic never happenned, Barney poured himself into those last two albums with no other outlet, its no surprise that his writing is similar.
