-Who's Joe: an Oasis track -Hey Now What You Doing: a Technique track (but sometimes it sounds a bit like Roxette) -Waiting For The Sirens' Call: a single from Get Ready era with Vietnam as B-Side -Krafty: a Monaco track -I Told You So: an Ace Of Base track -Morning Night And Day: an Electronic/Twisted Tenderness track -Dracula's Castle: on a soundtrack of some teen movie -Jetstream: another collaboration with Bobby Gilliespe (his vocals would fit that track very well) -Guilt Is A Useless Emotion: one more Monaco track (See-Saw anyone?) -Turn: The Cure trying again to be New Order -Working Overtime: New Order trying to be a garage rock band

Well, I said almost, ALMOST...

As I said, almost, so it "almost" sounds like an Oasis, sometimes, maybe whatever...

It sounds very much like The Cure (but it is much better), and certainly not like Oarses, in my very humble hoping onion.

It is a very mixed bag though, isn't it? It feels like quite a colourful bunch of tracks, all upbeat and extremely melodic but slyly different to one another in their approaches.

IMHO the album sounds like a very good collection of Monaco and Electronic tracks.

Give me strength........ :banghead: This may come as a complete and utter shock, but:

Bernard Sumner of New Order is one half of Electronic.Peter Hook of New Order is one half of Monaco.

OF COURSE some of their songwriting is going to sound like their respective side projects; they're the same individuals with the same influences! The Bernard in Electronic is the same as the Bernard in New Order. The Hooky in Monaco is also the same as the Hooky in New Order! This may come as a shock to some people. What are they meant to sound like? Def bleedin' Leppard?

The new album sounds like NEW ORDER, stop being so silly with the pointless side project comparisons. When the side projects first came about everyone said they sounded like New Order so coming full circle and saying New Order in 2005 sound like the side projects is a pretty dumb and irrelevant thing to say. Sorry but I just knew there would be the usual boring side project comparisons with the new LP, it's immensely tedious and a really lazy way to review the songs. Try narrowing down which specific bits you like or dislike rather than just saying "It sounds like Electronic/Monaco/O2 etc." then it might make for a more interesting and much less tedious thread.

Waiting For the Sirens' Call would almost be my favorite newOrder album if Technique had never been made.

Everybody here knows what you are saying Ally, it's obvious. But we can't hide that they used some new elements and created some different kinds of sound in their projects and now they are bringing this experience to New Order. It is normal but it is a fact we can see some of these elements in New Order now. I didn't say it's a bad thing. This album is superb, maybe one of my favourites ever, and I love almost everything Monaco did and Twisted Tenderness is my favourite Electronic album - which is the one I see some Electronic references on this new one. But we can't hide the fact that there are some new elements in New Order now that were firstly used in their side-project, although I don't think it's a bad thing.

I'm not being silly, I'm just pointing a fact I see: New Order has now some elements in the sound that were used primarily in their side-projects. You are free to disagree but please don't say it's pointless or silly, it's just NOT YOUR OPINION. The problems I see in this album are two: the lack of Other Two's input - maybe because of Gillian's absence (is Steven just the drummer now?) and I see no "perfect infectious hits" in these tracks, like it was for Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith , Blue Monday, World in Motion and lastly Regret and Here To Stay. I'm not talking about quality here, just in being catchy and potential hits. The last attempt they almost succeeded was Crystal, in my opinion. But the tracks have a good level of quality for sure and I don't see a bad track in this album. But I see these two problems, but maybe It's the way it's got to be.

Its quite a messy affair isnt it? I didnt want it to be same old thing for 60 mins, but its all over the place like they didn`t know which direction to take.

I Told You So should be a huge hit if released in the early 90s. It's very catchy, but a bit out of date for a single nowadays. They are just ten years late, well it may happen to anyone, even with the best band in the world. Maybe in 2015 they will release a nu-metal track... :evil4:

YES, it could be a single!

Sorry, but this thread is still completely useless. I actually loathe continuing it's importance by posting another reply....

If you look at the current band dynamic of New Order; Barney handles the keyboards now and obviously has for years, as much as Gillian or Steve. Hooky and Steve no doubt do their fair share of programing on the new LP, as both Monaco/Revenge and O2 were very synth orientated. I think what you are looking for is *massively* stereotypical I.e. a "synthy" track denoting somehow Gillian was involved a great deal, which is obviously massively inaccurate and an awful way of reviewing a song.

What I feel your reviews in this thread have boiled down individual tracks on the new album to is that "rocky" tracks are down to Barney or Hooky, and "synthy" tracks are down to Steve or Gillian. Obviously that is bollocks as Steve himself has said his drum riff on "Working Overtime" basically shaped the whole song, and it's a hugely "rocky" one. You feel there's an "Other Two" influence missing? I don't. What are you wanting? Gillian to actually sing because that's about the only way you could OBVIOUSLY include an O2 influence on the LP.

I still maintain reviewing songs off the new LP by saying "It sounds like Monaco's See-saw" or "it sounds like Oasis" is very, very VERY lazy. Sorry, but that's the way I feel about this thread. Put some original reviewing thought in.

Firstly, maybe my poor English doesn't help but my first intention was not to review the songs from the album here. I was just pointing some funny things about the tracks, not really being too serious with many comparisons... Did you think I was supposing they were really "trying to sound like Ace of Base" or things like these? No, I wasn't, but maybe there are some influences in their sound, like always were, although they do not list clearly all their influences. Secondly, I don't think this album lacks synths = Gillian's absence. This album has more synths than Get Ready and maybe the same as Brotherhood but I consider it lacks a little of the Other Two's feel, not exactly synth related per se. There is that feel in some Other Two's tracks that are not "synthy" like "The River" for an example.

I know you don't think the only Gillian's participation in the band are playing synths, some guitar and some vocals. If you don't get what is the Other Two's feel I'm talking about, I'm sorry but I think many people here undertands this. If you think it is the best thing in the world that Hooky is now almost 50% of New Order - my opinion here - I am free to think different. But I am happy that there is still the band New Order, even if it changed a little what it was. It has happened before in a greater scale after the death of Ian Curtis.

The critisisms I have of your post are not personal! I would not dream of telling people what to think or say, it would be very boring here otherwise... I merely didn't agree with your viewpoint on your "reviews" of the album. This does not mean I personally dislike you (certainly not!), but simply we have a difference of opinion :D Your opinion is just as valid as mine and vice versa... Standard stuff really and your review of the new album is as welcome as anyone's but it's just that I thought the side-project/Oasis comparisons were lazy ones, that's all.

Hey Joe sounds absolutely nothing like Oasis to me, it's far too intelligent!

I was supposing it was not personal, your point of view is valid, although I must insist that my intention here was not to review the album. Maybe I'll do that later after some more listenings. And how can I dislike the guy who has done one of the best websites related to New Order ever, the one and only "Ally's Monaco Site". It was there I had the chance to listen the first tracks from which would become my favourite album of a NO side-project , since I wasn't too much into Revenge then. But as you said none can tell people what to think.

...But not if you dare prefer Rock the Shack or Slow Jam to Guilt.., in which case you need to question your validity as a NO fan - or so you said in the Guilt thread.

You're contradicting yourself.

Yes, as I said if you'd scroll down to one of my later posts on the same thread; I reiterated I could have worded my original post in that thread better, and I didn't mean to come across as holier than thou. It's sods law :D people pay 500% more attention to a negative comment you make rather than the newer ones afterward that basically say you didn't really mean it or you overstated what you originally meant to say.

When I wrote the posts last night it was pretty late, I'd been out for a few beers and I was having trouble sleeping. All that equals too much time staring at a burning screen and overly opinionated posts :( I should have just watched the Discovery channel until I dozed off  Anyways, apologies to anyone who thinks they need one... I question my own validity as an intelligent NOOL poster in this case.

Cheers, Ally.

 I appreciate that Robertão, and going back into the mists of time I do remember you, I think we chatted on ICQ for a while but unfortunately I don't use that IM anymore. Those were the days when you could actually get away with posting MP3s (bsides/mixes only) publicly on a web site before all those nasty RIAA-like organisations started going nuts bringing lawsuits against dead grandmothers etc. I always intended those MP3 files mainly for international people outside of the UK who did not have access to the CD singles, I'm glad you got some use out of it yourself :thumb:

You should do a track by track review of the new album though, everyone's reviews make interesting reading. But I understand you want more time to let the album settle in, I am doing the same.
