I refuse to listen to WFTSC before it's released !

Even if that means I'm the last moralist left on earth, I hereby announce my refusal to listen to WFTSC obtained illegally. Unfortunately, that means I won't be able to comment on the songs (except Krafty for a while), but morality starts at home. Anyone with me ?

I'm the same I've had the knowledge of how to get my hands on WFTSC for about a week now; but so far my 'morals' are winning. I'm surviving on my 'new' Community CDs to keep me going until release.

We've waited 9 years for a new album at one point, what's another month now ? Comedy thread of the year, the year is still young ! Go on. I want to hear rallying cries. They're my favourite band and I WILL wait for the release date. Then I'll camp in front of Dancing Bear for the night. Hopefully, if WFTSC gets well promoted, they'll have those midnight sales. In that case it'll be barging in at 0:00 and and drinking the night away. I owe them that much.

I remember unveiling the Getting Things Ready compact diskette whilst holidaying here in the UK's luscious countryside. It was a tremendously exciting day of days, impromptu as the shop appeared through the mist on a windy cobbled road the back end of beyond thunderdome - scone emporiums lined either side of the street. Surrounded by cascading hills of green we cruised off with no fixed purpose listening to the mystical whisperings of Turn My Feet. As day turned to night, Crystal turned to Vicious Streaky Bacon and the sun set on a new world.

I hope to again experience such moments of pleasure. I can almost here the call of the cyclops as spring draws closer.

Unfortunately, I sold the car we used on that holiday to a friend of mine who proceeded to run over a bird the other day. We won’t let that spoil our fond memories though.

The only thing that will stop this being comedy thread of the year is if you've never taped anything off the radio. Or recorded a television program. Or copied a CD.

If so, then fine. If not, then I completely respect your descision to wait - but spare us the holier than thou, please.

The simple fact is hearing it before it arrives in the shops will not personally stop me from buying it in all its various forms when it is officially released so for me guilt is indeed a useless emotion ;)

Cats, I'm no religious buff, I've just opted to tease my aural senses somewhat. I think that's the thread of this, er, thread, isn't it?

Surely its a different game nowadays. Gone are the methods of yesteryear, like taping a truncated version of up and coming albums from late night Radio 2 (Technique, anyone? - Round the Bend and All the Wheat if memory serves correct) - on today's modern transistor radio, you get the whole shooting match laid on a platter within about 3 minutes . Which is why its even more of a restraint to hold on until that special day.

I don't think there's a moral highground, just a matter of wanting it as soon as it appears. Some just wan'it, others prepare to stew their broth over a series of weeks - the taste being all that sweeter.

a) I can't be arsed to spend hours finding it on the net when I've loads of work to do b) I want to hear it in decent quality first rather than grainy mp3 c) basically, I can wait for it

I was uncertain both about the breed and the species. But you've cleared up the second uncertainty. Nevertheless, I'm glad I wasn't there.

Of course it's fair enough to everybody. But one has to start somewhere, and someone has to be the one. I'm not moralizing to anyone: I'm just saying that I like New Order so much that I'm willing to wait for the oficcial release date.

I will stroll down to the shops on the first Saturday morning after release, will have a cup of coffee on my way there, will ask the shop assistant(I always do that to create the impression that everyone is asking after New Order), will carry the thing home, peel away the cellophane, carefully consider the cover and the booklet (if that's the case) and then listen to it's full glory for the rest of the day.

grainy mp3's? my mp3's sound great! as for the moral issue, if you buy it when it comes out, where's the harm in downloading and listening before release date? more than likely the moralists are barking about their high morals, not because they are saints but because they have technology limitations or time constraints. if it appeared at your door step, would you still not listen to it? If Hooky came round with a copy and wanted to play it for you would you still refuse? Fair play to you but what's the point of waiting? in 5 years how much will it matter if you heard it in February or March?

Its been quiet, almost too quiet.

Although nothing official has been released, the local newsagent has a very lively notice board, and the following sheets were recently pinned up:

'Soft white bread now only 46pence - was 48' 'Local boy out-swims poo, its official' 'Sunbed for sale, offers around 50 pounds. Decent tubes, hardly utilised' 'Wanted, a Wondering where the Cyclops are cassette by the New Mondays, preferably used' 'Onions recall' 'Rabbit seeks dog, must have own back legs'

Bearing in mind the fish and chip shop withdrew their offer on skate bits, there could be something in it?

Biznotic, risking sound ing pedantic I should point out to you that either if the CD appears at your doorstep or Hooky himself comes to play it in your living room the moral issue disappears.

That was the way I used to treasure virgin listens of NO product but it simply ain't the same any more.

Just through reading these boards your expectations have been irrevocably tempered - you now know for instance that there's no triumphant all-time classic on the album. So you've been robbed of the possibility of listening it through the first time and discovering a masterwork. With so much feedback about the album flowing through these threads, it's just not the same waiting for it any more. You're pre-exposed to too much. So I figure, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I'll still get a buzz when I pick up the official copy, revel in Saville's handiwork, enjoy it in higher fidelity, then track down a vinyl copy.

In an ideal world the time difference between some mug uploading all the tracks to a P2P and the official release date would be measured in days, not weeks or months, and we could all enjoy the final product as NO intended.
