WFTSC: "best album since Technique"?

Well, since I have yet to hear WFTSC - and will wait until the day it is released (insert bleeding heart icon) - I have to go with Republic.

Yup, I'd go along with that. Or does "their best album for 16 years" sound better?

hard call. time will tell, i suppose. I like various things about Get Ready and the new album, but we'll see.

WFTSC is certainly the best album since Technique. The quesetion that remains is: Will the 2001-200? era rate as high as the 82-86 or 87-90 era's do in most peoples minds. It's shaping up to be the best era of New Order material to my ears. If they release another album in the next year and it's similar in quality to WFTSC, then there would be a good argument that this new incarnation of New Order is the best yet. I know some people will kick and scream at this proposition but i'm loving their new material. It's certainly not the most "creative" period, but they're writing better songs than ever before. Bring on the Krafty mixes!

81-85 will always be better

I guess i must be the only person who not that impressed by Sirens, i find it quite bland and it currently ranks below Republic for me.

Wow, I didn't realize so many people disliked Get Ready. In all honesty, I think Get Ready is better than Technique and both of these records are leaps and bounds better than WFTSC. Do I dare say that I think Republic is even better than WFTSC? No, not yet... I have to give the new one more time to grow on me before I just to any silly conclusions.

I voted Republic... I honestly prefer it to DEFINITELY Get Ready and certainly to WFTSC at the moment. More synths... I'm a dance fan, and I don't appreciate guitar stuff as much.

Going to have to agree. If I'm brutally honest, I wasn't expecting that much from Sirens', but I was completely wrong. I feel compelled to listen to it every day and never skip a track, that's not something I could say about Republic or Get Ready.

My only criticism is that even after repeated listens, Working Overtime sounds completely out of place. You've just come down nicely with Turn, only to be woken up with a smack in the face. Maybe that was the idea...

Nail/head. Were any of us really expecting anything from the last two albums? Even though I was over the moon when they returned in 1998, I was dreading new material simply because I thought that creatively they were past it and any new record would be an embarrasment. "Get Ready", while far from perfect, was about a thousand times better than it should have been, and for me "WFTSC" just edges out it's predecessor in the quality stakes.

Someone accused them of 'selling out' on this forum a few days ago, which was interesting given that they also "sold out" circa "Blue Monday", "True Faith", "WIM" and bloody "Republic". Are they better now than, say, the '82-'85 period? Of course they're fucking not - but how many people can point to another band almost into its third fucking decade (in one form or another) still making music as fantastic as the new LP? And this is a group who still haven't bothered to learn how to play their instruments yet.

"WFTSC" sounds like New Order: '...Joe' has that infinite, indefinable ache that made me fall in love with them in the first place and which no-one else can pull off; 'WFTSC' makes me want to dance around like I've got a firework up me arse; 'Krafty' is both genius and utterly inane at the same time....

I really don't know what some people were expecting. They've made a great LP which sounds like a New Order record should. What more do you want??

Not quite the only one. These ears may have to adjust. Early days for me mind.

It's sounding better than republic, no question. I'm not sure yet it's got anything as good as crystal on it, but there's probably more stuff that matches up to their best stuff on here than get ready (Turn, Who's Joe? and the title track mainly.)

Although there is one song (guilt and emotion spring to mind?) that i despise more than any track on both WTFSC and GR put together, i think the standout tracks on WFTSC more than make up for it and push it just (only just) ahead of GR.

I like both Republic and Get Ready but WFTSC I think is better than them both. So, my vote is as such.

I think Clayhead has it right;it SOUNDS like New Order. I have listened to the record in spurts, and all ready some of the tracks, progressions, and lyrics are getting pleasantly stuck in my head like other favorite New Order songs do. I think it is better than Get Ready, and WAY better than Republic. Trust me give the record some attention and it won't disappoint. The best part is this is exactly like a New Order record would sound like in 2005....I can't complain at all.

agree 110%. must be a Texas thing.

WFTSC picks up right where Twisted Tenderness left off. its not bad at all, but its as much electronic as it is new order.

its got some very good songs in Who's Joe, WFTSC and Turn, but nothing as great as Primitive Notion or Close Range IMHO.
